CNN, MSNBC Bosses Ignore Staff Pleas to Cut Trump Coronavirus Pressers

The problem is not about politics, but about him endangering the public. His slightly better than 50% approval in this matter is a testament to how dangerous he is. Many people are believing him, and that's the problem that needs to be addressed.
Come now. The only people ****ting themselves over these press conferences are the same ones that always do. The fact is that each of those press conferences includes Q and A sessions with the experts that have been doing a very good job. Hell...the only thing Ive seen people point to as 'dangerous' was the one idiot that decided to use fish cleaning solution when he and his wife didnt even have the virus. Thats just a stupid person doing something stupid.

Meanwhile the head of the WHO has championed Trumps efforts on fighting this thing. So have the governors of the 4 biggest liberal states in the country.

Yeah, see, there's this weird concept in America that THE PEOPLE are supposed to do most of the governing and that the federal government is supposed to, primarily, make sure we can continue to do so.
This generality has many specifics to it, one of which is the safety of the people. If government cannot do that basic task, what the hell good is it? Why are we kicking our tax dollars upstairs, if they can't or won't do their most basic function?

About two weeks ago Trump appointed Pence to be in charge of the Covid-19 White House medical team. What a joke that has become. Trump cannot share the limelight with anyone. So, for the past two weeks it is Trump who conducts the press conferences, and Pence stands behind him. The worst part about all this is Trump is doing most of the talking on the pandemic, not the medical experts, and he is making a complete fool of himself. He has no idea what he is talking about.

Trump has this nasty habit of interrupting reporters from CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and others. Using the over-talking method, he won't let them finish their questions. This is a sign of weakness and vulnerability. He doesn't want the television audience to hear their questions. However, he rarely interrupts John Roberts, the White House reporter from Fox News. Roberts asks the softball questions Trump most likely provided.
In fact, he's been retreating more & more into the Fox domain. Some of his recent pressers have been Fox only.

Sounds good if you keep the focus very narrow and the camera in just the right spot.

Chloraguine became unobtainium as a result of his comments that sounded like the "miracle" they had been hoping for. People who actually use it, lupus and RA patients, can't get it. And stupid people hear him say it's a cure, see the name on one of their koi pond chemicals, ingest it, and one of them dies.

The death rate from those in the know has always been around "severe seasonal flu".

What trump doesn't understand and the narrative managers are trying to hide is how different this virus is from the seasonal flu. And why that makes it dangerous in unique ways.

It is highly contagious for a long period.

Most people are highly contagious but feel fine or just need a dayquil.

We have no herd immunity. This virus is brand new. So it is going to make about a quarter of those from 20 up exposed to it to become extremely ill. And around 1% are going to die. Unless we can get to a vaccine quick enough. Anybody who hasn't had it will still be able to easily catch it, even when we get it under "control".

It's not going to be over until a vaccine is found and tested and everybody gets it or until we've all had it. And the latter means 25% of the population gets sick enough for hospitalization and 1% or so will die. So it behooves us that as few as possible are exposed until we have a vaccine.

You can not purchase hydroxychloroquine OTC. If people can't get it then that's because doctors are prescribing it. If doctors are prescribing it then there must be a reason beyond "Trump says so".

Look, I totally understand that people are freaked out about this thing but that's partly because they're predisposed to freakouts and partly because they have been brainwashed into the "Trump is going to kill us all" mindset since day one. While I certainly don't fault anyone for being freaked out I would suggest that the physical data we're getting from the ground isn't close to what we're seeing in the models.

The point is that airing trump's pressers is partaking in the spread of disinformation, confusion, chaos and division. While news is traditionally concerned with reporting events instead of acting according to some notion of the public welfare, I don't agree that this tradition is necessarily a suicide pact. A nationwide health disaster like an out-of-control pandemic seems to me to be a good example of an occasion to pull that plug.
That's becoming an apt description. We narrowly averted a full-on shooting-war with Iran, taking nearly 30 ballistic missile hits (that thankfully were only a warning, despite the injury caused to our soldiers). Now, this.

I think the amount of misinformation being circulated by the Gov, Press (less so) and social media is confusing and seriously dangerous to how we should proceed. It's literally head-spinning to keep up with the contradictory statements and supposed facts. It's all becoming a game of smoke & mirrors.

I get a kick out of the way all you folks want a unified plan and mobilization organized and implemented by a federal central authority....just not the one in place now.

Well, with all due respect, that's ALWAYS the problem with "one size fits all" solutions.

It might be pie-in-the-sky but it would be good if the whole country could get on the same page, all pull together, instead of each State having a different response in place. That's liable to cause some serious problems down the road, liable to make people advocate internal travel restrictions.

Trump put on another numbing performance yesterday dominating a press conference dealing with a viral pandemic while his health experts stood by in silence. To give credence to the performance, the doctors were allowed a few minutes to talk about the health crisis.

However, 90% of the conference dealt with Trump campaigning for reelection. There was a great deal of hyperbole, and we learned that tremendous is one of Trump's favorite words, and that everything is "very good." I must give credit where credit is due. Trump is a great politician. He can talk and talk and never say anything, and he rarely commits to anything. He likes having it both ways. He will say one thing in one sentence, and take it all back in the next sentence. He wants to scale back social distancing in some parts of the economy. Then again, he doesn't really, and he will listen to the experts. In his mind this is "tremendous" brilliance.
Trump is less "a great politician", than he is abated by the greed & lust for power of the Republican Party. As we saw with the Senate, they are the only reason a guy like Trump can remain in power. Trump's words don't move me in the least. I couldn't get past his first month or two of his campaign, much less buy into his Presidency.

The data is too new to form any conclusions from it.

And conclusions are being based on this incomplete information without a commensurate understanding of the basics of the problem.

The scattershot measure being taken right now followed by everybody going back to work in a week or two just means it flares up repeatedly and kills people from then until a vaccine is found and tested.

With any luck we'll see an antiviral drug already in use that has some efficacy in treating those who get sick.

I will admit that I have skin in this game. I am a 56 year old asthmatic with type 2 diabetes. .1% fatality rate is way too high for me personally. And the likelihood that if exposed i will end up in the hospital.

If one idiot who believes its all not a big deal sneezes on me two months from now.

Well, let's talk about that. Japan didn't shut much of anything down and they've been doing OK. I'm pretty sure that Montreal and Toronto haven't locked down. Why are these places allowed to buck the trend without being excoriated in the press?

It's because they don't have a Trump, isn't it?

I don't care who airs what. I say let Trump go out there an make an ass of himself every day. Works for me.

Agreed. I just change the channel and wait for the fact checkers to tell us the truth. Watch what they do, not what they say.

Trump's numbers are going up. The MSM can't let that happen.

Not sure. Here in BC the provincial government has put aside all city and municipal measures except for the city of Vancouver, maybe It's the same in Ontario and Quebec. I think the cities have to follow federal and provincial rules but can add to them. That would make sense.
A quick look at the tables shows that Canada and Japan still have relatively low infection rates- 122/million in Canada and only 11/million in Japan.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

The US has nearly 300/million. Maybe if it got that high in Canada and Japan more stringent measures will be necessary. Actually, Canada has largely shut down too. Not "locked down", maybe, but most retail is shut or reduced drastically.

I'm no law-abiding, obedient supporter of government but in this case I'm doing my best to follow the rules. We can sort out our differences after this has passed and have a great time pointing and blaming but for now we have to pull together and get this past us the best we can. Which means putting aside resistance. For now.

Does Italy have Trump?

Does Italy have Trump?

Not every place the virus pops up is Italy. Italy, for some reason, is having a worse time with this than anywhere else. It's kind of the same way NYC is having a disproportionately worse time with this than other places in the US.

I don't care who airs what. I say let Trump go out there an make an ass of himself every day. Works for me.

I'm just happy that he's not on all of the news channels anymore. I see him - I change the channel.

Yes, but that appears to he the way the administration is going.

From Business Insider, "80% of deaths associated with COVID-19 were among adults aged ≥65 years with the highest percentage of severe outcomes among persons aged ≥85 years." 80% of US coronavirus deaths have been among people 65 and older, a new CDC report says.

80% of US coronavirus deaths are among people 65 and up, CDC says - Business Insider

In the U.S. there are 100,597 cases of the coronavirus, 1,550 have died. The numbers are big, but so is the U.S. and the period in question. There are over 327 million people living in the U.S., and the total number of cases and the death toll is over a three month period. We are not hearing that from the news media. All we are hearing are the sad and desperate stories while the politicians and health experts tell us what terrible things will happen to us in the next two weeks.

Just like two weeks ago when they were telling us the horrible things that will happen in two weeks.

The numbers are big, but not nearly as big as in the case of the H1N1 virus, or swine flu.

H1N1 was first detected in April 2009 in a 10-year-old girl in California. It was declared a global pandemic in June 2009 by the World Health Organization (WHO) and was finally over in August 2010.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that swine flu infected nearly 61 million people in the United States and caused 12,469 deaths.

Worldwide, up to 575,400 people died from pandemic swine flu.3

Swine Flu (H1N1): Overview and More

I don't recall the politicians shutting down our economy in the summer of '09. I don't recall the politicians shutting down all leisure activities and canceling every sporting event, professional and amateur. I don't recall the politicians ordering every American to stay home unless there is an emergency. I don't recall the massive, 24/7 news coverage of the H1N1 pandemic to the exclusion of everything else.

The coronavirus is nothing more than a new virus of the common cold, and, like the common cold, "with the highest percentage of severe outcomes among persons aged ≥85 years."

What is going on?

Poor Trump. I can't wait until he has finished his presidential term...

I disagree. He's doing real damage to the country during the worst health crisis since 1918. At this point, everybody, states and individuals alike, need to deal with it as if the Executive Branch didn't exist because, for all useful purposes, it doesn't.

I think the media is barely criticizing him

H1n1 was not a novel virus.

We have herd immunity to influenzas. This means we have some immunity to it. We have no herd immunity to this virus yet.

At the end of the day, the donor class does not like this situation.

As far as they're concerned you and I need to get back to work. They do not give a **** if a bunch of us die.

So they have their people generating a bunch of "this isn't a big deal" propaganda.

But I promise that they aren't licking any doorknobs themselves. Hell, they can get a test whenever they want one. Certainly won't be crammed in a ward somewhere if the do get sick. Won't have to worry about getting a venitlator. Their plight is not our plight.

So I'm going to listen to the doctors and scientists and not message after message carefully crafted to encourage the peons to just go back to work already. Its only the least profitable dying.

I saw the WHO link posted earlier, and took a look. To call that and the Dem governor's exclamation "praise", is feint praise indeed. It's a mis-characterization, particularly from the governors. They are greasing Trump as needed, because he has to have his ego stroked and the gov's are desperate. Trust me, these govs hate Trump's guts & their constituents do - too.

If you believe these govs think Trump is doing a good job, you probably believe a hooker telling you,

"you're the best, honey",

as she takes your money & tells you to come back.
