The great hoax

Damn shame everything becomes political.

Nothing about this virus is political. It doesn't care if you are right or left. It kills indiscriminately.

America is not really following than social distancing, stay home avoid crowds advice. It hasn't been here long and we are already doubling every 2 or three days. It's going to get a lot worse. Would shutting the country help? Probably. But I think we will go the other way until it slows down or we have true carnage In the streets. By then it will be too late.

Going to be interesting to watch. Hope I get to see the end of it since I am 65.

Jesus man, get a grip... you are the one trying to connect a detail that does not translate and declaring victory by justifying it based on what you think his supporters might believe. Instead, you should be objective and just tell the truth. He did not call the virus a hoax. He acted slow like many other world leaders. He might be acting irresponsible in letting up on restrictions, if he does indeed do that. What he called a hoax was the Left's description of his not caring or perceived inaction.

I am not defending dishonesty... I am being accurate.

You should be ashamed of posting lies...

Okay - you get to be in the driver seat. Lets see how you do:

Tell us exactly - what did Trump say about a HOAX in connection with the virus?

NO responsible national leader would or should ever use the word HOAX in connection with a national health crisis. That was the Trump sin and he is guilty of doing just that.

He has his own way of talking, which is understood by his supporters. Others are appalled by the directness, which they interpret as antagonism. If you can get past superficial style, you would not be quite so appalled.

Yes. And it seems to me that Trump is taking this extremely seriously, and understands that whatever he does can make or break the entire world. I have NOT seen him acting like an idiot.

I am NOT a Trump supporter. Yet I defend him against the crazed demonization coming from Democrats and from the "left."

Gotta wonder if it will ever dawn on Trump how many people he killed being a con man instead of a President.

Or how many he saved by shutting down travel from China when he did.

He did not say the Hoax was in connection with the virus.

"What's True
During a Feb. 28, 2020, campaign rally in South Carolina, President Donald Trump likened the Democrats' criticism of his administration's response to the new coronavirus outbreak to their efforts to impeach him, saying "this is their new hoax."

Did President Trump Refer to the Coronavirus as a 'Hoax'?

I already gave you this information.

Yes. And it seems to me that Trump is taking this extremely seriously, and understands that whatever he does can make or break the entire world. I have NOT seen him acting like an idiot.

I agree... although all medical experts that I heard stated that shutting things down fast and hard and EARLY was the best way to handle this... and essentially ALL world leaders except China failed due to inaction.

I am NOT a Trump supporter. Yet I defend him against the crazed demonization coming from Democrats and from the "left."

Same here...

Why can't more DPers post like you!

You just quoted an article which summed it up. I do NOT want that. Give me his exact words.

And there will be many more if we do this every time johnny gets the sniffles or grandma has bad gas.

... OR a new strain of virus gives people a cold or the flu.

and the caskets won't be because of the cold or the flu

With that attitude there will probably be a shortage of caskets, too.

I am not going to do too much of your work for you but here is enough:

"“The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus,” Trump said. “One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. … They tried anything. … And this is their new hoax.”"

5 times Trump and US officials downplayed coronavirus as the administration struggled to prepare for the growing pandemic | Business Insider

Dems are politicizing the corona virus, saying that he is not doing enough... THAT is the hoax, that he is not doing enough, or incompetent, etc. about his handling of the corona virus...

...unless you can show where he said, "the corona virus is a hoax" you are just making **** up.

In fact, earlier in that speech he said something like, he felt corona virus was a pandemic before it was declared a pandemic... even further distancing himself from any claim that he thought that corona virus was a hoax.

I'll include the first person oration paragraph before the quote paragraph; presume that person and Trump understand the context of "Dem concern" for "hoax".

It doesn't matter. Whether he meant the virus is a hoax (strawman) or the press and Dems were hoaxing. Who cares? I dare say, what does it matter now. At this point, the "hoax" controversy is a Red Herring.

This is the part, Feb 28, that matters:

We did one of the great jobs, you say, "how's President Dru... Trump doing?" They go, "oh, not good, not good". They have no clue. They don't have any clue...

But you know we did something that's been pretty amazing. We're fifteen people in this massive country. And because of the fact that we won early. We won early. We coulda had a lot more than that. We're doing great. Our country is doing so great. We're so unified. We are so unified...

We did not win early. There is no such fact. Whomever told him that ("One of my people came up to me...") should be released from duties. That's the important part. Who said, on Feb 28, that we were good. Great even, but I don't know if we can hold a 'great' against Trump. That's kind of a twitch of his.

Or how many he saved by shutting down travel from China when he did.

According to the head of HHS, every professional in the department recommended travel restrictions (there never was a ban) to Trump and he did as told. He screwed it up a little when he implied we were shutting down shipping and he didn't mention the vast exceptions, but it was straightened out by the professionals.

No one complained about that. Not one congressperson or candidate criticized the Wuhan travel restrictions. None of the aforementioned called it racist or any such thing.

Here is what Trump would have you believe: He came up with the idea himself, the professionals said don't do it and then Dems called it racist. All of that is a lie; three lies in one claim.

And it didn't matter. The virus was in international airports by then. He was claiming it as a solo victory lap and it was no such thing or time.

Here is a dictionary definition of the word HOAX

hoax verb

\ ˈhōks \
hoaxed; hoaxing; hoaxes
Definition of hoax (Entry 1 of 2)
transitive verb
: to trick into believing or accepting as genuine something false and often preposterous
were hoaxed by the website
hoax noun
Definition of hoax (Entry 2 of 2)
1 : an act intended to trick or dupe : IMPOSTURE
the victim of a cruel hoax
assumed the bomb threat was just a hoax
2 : something accepted or established by fraud or fabrication
believes the Loch Ness Monster is a hoax
a literary hoax

Trump used the word HOAX in connection with the topic of the virus. What did the Dems do that amounted to the definition of a HOAX because I have seen no example of it.

The only "hoax" in all of this is the propaganda that any part of this is a "hoax".

The reaction is not a hoax, the virus is not a hoax, the potential damage it can do is not a hoax. Look at Italy, they're suffering near 10% mortality with this. We're sitting at around 1.5%, which is still high for a disease (the flu is 0.1%), but if we take this seriously we can likely drop that overall mortality rate by the time this is said and done.

Trump flubbed up the response. He tried to dismiss it far too flippantly when it started, tried to play the outcry and concern off as some Democrat hoax, he did not address the problem as it should have been. He ****ed up. He ****ed up. All this "hoax" nonsense is nothing more than deflection and spin because Trumpeteers don't want to admit that Trump ****ed up.

He's started to take things a bit more seriously, and we'll see if it can be turned around. It's going to spread, but if we can slow the spread in order to relieve stress on the healthcare infrastructure and take our social distancing seriously, we can minimize the numbers. And then Trump can brag about that. We're not past the event horizon on this, but Trump did **** up in his initial response and tried to blame everyone but himself. Though that is typical Trump, he lives on the "This is everyone's fault but mine" mantra.

There is no hoax.

Trump is the one who used the word "hoax" in referring to it, Trump is the one who is defending his use of the word "hoax" and Trump is the one acting as if Democrats want people to die when all along he is the one demanding we ignore the precautions of health officials.

Now, either we disconnect our heads from our asses and remember how to tell [censored] from Shinola or we all get to be in front of the fan when the [censored] hits it. :hitsfan:

And a good many of us will not come out of it alive.

I never said that Trump's use of the term was correct... just that he was not calling the pandemic a hoax... but I see that you are side stepping now that I have proven you wrong. Red Herring somebody else.

There has been a lot of hysterical bashing of Trump, and of the Republicans. The gist of it seems to be that Trump thought the virus was just a hoax, and therefore failed to respond.

But if you look at snopes and factcheck, you will see that he never called the virus a hoax. The word "hoax" appeared in a statement he made, but it was not referring to the virus.

So if a response was delayed at all (which I doubt), it was not because Trump didn't think there was a serious threat.

The hysterical bashing doesn't seem exactly fair to me -- how does anyone know how any other president would have handled something so unprecedented? Why would any administration have been expecting this?

I'm sure many mistakes have been made and no emergency is ever handled perfectly. Is it possible to get a balanced perspective on this?

I am not partisan, at all. I hate both parties almost equally. Democrats I hate a little more, because they are elitist hypocrites.

How do you explain several Republicans dumping their stock and warning only their elite donors while at the same time assuring the public "everything is fine"?

What do you think of apdst's response to a previous post of yours with post #55?

I don't like partisan posts and don't care which "side" the poster is on. Does this satisfy your "whataboutism"? Asking because you're no better.

So what exactly was the HOAX Trump was referring to?

The only thing you have proven is a craven desire to excuse anything Trump does.

Anything? Uh-huh... sure thing buddy.

Don't let your anger run and ruin your life... seriously. No joke. Get a ****ing grip.
