Louisiana Pastor Draws 1000 People

I never said it was a hoax.

Only that the action and attitude of the public health dictatorship singling out religious practice for unfair treatment despite its clear constitutional protection is immoral.

There is no constitutional protection being violated during a state emergency..

Shut off the power and water...

Of course the pastor could have done something more responsible like setting up some virtual mass where participants could worship remotely. There are ways of keeping the group dynamic in place and still exercising common sense health protocols. We're seeing this in the private sector with the people who are working from home, and socially with friends and family. You'll always have those who are more resistant to change and will fight it tooth and nail.

If these practitioners lived in isolation, they could lick door knobs and cough on each other to their heart's content; but since they live among others, it's a pretty selfish thing to do.

The key is, they never stopped practicing because of early persecution.
No, the key was their faith real faith which they lived not just paid lip service to.

And I do not want a society that persecutes anyway.
Nobody does.

That is something believers have an obligation to resist.
That is something all decent people have an obligation to resist.

The idea is to keep people from gathering in large groups; it applies to more than just religious practice. This is why sports teams, concerts, etc have been cancelled.

Don't be stupid, nobody is "singling out" anybody. Are you incapable of understanding that? Government advice which you libertarians don't want to know about, is to socially distance yourself as the ONLY defence against a killer. They aren't telling you that because they have nothing better to do. LISTEN AND ACT ON IT!!!

Those are not constitutionally protected.

Religious practice is constitutionally protected and thus all restrictions should be narrowly tailored. Like I said, in my state religious ministers were not deemed “essential workers” and can be prosecuted for traveling to perform their ministerial duties like hearing confessions or giving spiritual guidance, but union shop stewards (and the unions are run by democrats) can do functionally the same thing and they’re “essential” so it’s obvious that leftists are targetting the faithful.

I can go to work and drive trucks, but if I go to confession I can be arrested. This is clear persecution.

And neither are churches during a state emergency...

The constitution does not specify such rights can be suspended and therefore these restrictions are illegitimate.

But the supreme has upheld quarantine and emergency powers of states numerous times including a famous case from none other than Louisiana... Internet lawyering won't win a case like this....

I am not a libertarian. I am actually a monarchist but that’s neither here nor there,

The point is, when we drafted a republic we created specific rights that were never supposed to be violated, and yet here we are. A virus that kills less people then the flu is not a reason to curtail rights.

If that were the standard then governments could shut down churches every year under emergency declaration due to the flu.

And I’m not convinced the democrats won’t try

In a virus infested state, this moron defies common sense and ignores state's orders.

You cannot fix stupid. But, maybe the National Guard can at least stop it from spreading.

Whoops....

Maybe not.

Especially stupid when Louisiana has the fastest growing number of cases in the world.

But mass public defiance and the threat of unrest might win the day.

I would be perfectly willing to attend an illegal gathering and try to force the hand of the state, because Kung flu or no, no one will want to see images of heavy handed law enforcement response on peaceful gatherers

that is what the country is coming to. The government elitists feel they can dictate to the masses what they are to think and do and will arrest them if they do not comply. Welcome to the new iron-fisted democratic socialist states of america.

derp!

Blah blah blah.

Next year the democrats are going ban Christianity based on the normal flu.

If this is the precedent there will be no limit to oppression based off of “emergency orders”

The Alex Jones conspiracy nuts turned out to be saner then I thought. We’re seeing full breakdown of civil rights, and while I agree with the ability to restrict gatherings in principle during times like this, I think the left side of politics really sees this as an excuse to do what they’ve always wanted. They have literally said nothing to reassure anyone this is temporary. The Dems in fact are throwing out the idea of states of emergency until Autumn

Hey genius the dems have no part in any banning or restrictions at the federal level. The present admin is republican!

Morons. Here in WA St there was a community meeting in Skagit County (2 hrs N of Seattle) of 56 people on March 10.

By last week, 11 had tested positive for CV and 32 were sick (showed symptoms).

It only takes one person...and it flies thru a group. And then all those people left and spread it more.

It also might end up with a pastor in jail and the church doors locked...

Well that’s why I said the next step might be to try to stage a repeat of the Bundy situation.

Which ended with acquittals by juries and a back down of law enforcement

I think we found your problem right here... you have no idea what you're talking about... We "violate" those specific rights all the time for a variety of legal reasons...

They are acting unreasonably in every state where they hold power

That doesn’t make those right

Well the Governors order is plainly unconstitutional by strict reading of the first amendment.

The Black Death didn’t close the Churches so Covid shouldn’t either.

You apparently also think that the images of soldiers using force against peaceable people would bring further compliance with emergency orders, you familiar with Bloody Sunday in Ireland? Look up how that greatly contributed to the peace and security of Northern Ireland during the troubles

That’s why the national guard commander was quick to dispel the idea he would be breaking up rogue church services, because the minute that video of soldiers using force against worshippers breaks out then the National Guard becomes a foreign occupying force and it will destroy any cooperation between the people and state.
