89 years old.

Suffered a stroke.

Survived the WuFlu.

Washington man, 89, may be oldest American to survive coronavirus

First, the elder Campbell had suffered a stroke. After a 10-day hospital stay, he was transferred to Life Care for physical and occupational therapy, but on March 4, something potentially even more dangerous was spreading through the halls of the nursing home: Coronavirus.

So many miracles among the 99% or more who will survive.

The death rate for persons 80+ with corona is over 25%, so you cherry-picking a survivor proves literally nothing.

This was about as dumb and pointless as most of your threads, but I'm impressed that you finally started one that didn't involve insulting Democrats.

Who knew anyone would be upset by this rather than inspired...

Totally unpredictable.

I heard that the death rate was only 15% for those that are over the age of 70?

Who's upset? I just pointed out that you cherry-picking survivors means literally nothing. This is at least your second thread today where you did this.

A lot of it depends on how well that local government was able to manage the crisis and how overwhelmed the medical system is. 15-40% is a catastrophically high death rate and anyone trying to tell you otherwise is a liar, a scumbag with an agenda, or both.

10% of the patients in the ICU in Italy are 20-40 with no prior conditions. People who pretend this only effects old people have no idea what they're talking about.

When U get to 89 years how many years do you figure that U have optimally remaining on this tour of duty?

See now THAT is the problem!

"Boomer Removal" they call it....

Tell me how I am wrong!

15% is a very high fatality rate for that demographic. It would also mean that a significant number of those over 70 would require hospitalization.

His point seems to be that since most don't die from COVID-19, even if when they are exposed to it, that we are overreacting to it by having mandatory closings of many US businesses - basically, the position of our POTUS. It is not a matter of if we will allow all normal business activity to resume - it is a matter of when (how soon) that will happen.

The largest failure of government (at all levels) is not having the ability to test folks for COVID-19 status therefore they expect everyone with 'non-essential' jobs to act as if they had it but should not seek treatment (or testing) for it. That is simply insane - the government says that if you have insurance that the COVID-19 testing will be "free", but the medical care providers say that they simply won't test "just anyone".

No nation to date has been able to test all of their citizens for the virus- the logistics of such a feat would make it highly unlikely unless you were a citizen of a tiny nation like the Vatican or something.

South Korea was able to keep its economy functioning because they had adequate testing.

It means that more than 1 in 7 people over 70 contract Covid-19 will die from it.

Yeah, but then there's the over..... lets say the age of 80 over that over the age of 70

Yeppers!

You don't have to test all your citizens. You just have to be able to have adequate testing in areas with a significant outbreak. That is why South Korea contained Covid-19's spread and was able to keep their economy functioning while we have had to shutdown our economy to contain it.

However several nations in the East have managed to do many times as well as the best Western nation has managed, understanding that the West was so sure that they are so good at this sort of thing.....

OK, but it is still crazy to say that some (actually most) are allowed to keep working without any COVID-19 testing or wearing of a mask, thus get paid to spread COVID-19, while some others must stop working to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We have a lot of Americans in their 70s with significant comorbidities. We are not a healthy country. If we get the infection rates they are experiencing in Italy and now much of Europe, due to higher levels of comorbities among our seniors, we could see higher case fatality rates.

Ya really U do....and let us be clear here....any nation that cant fast and cheaply test all of its citizens has failed the test of being a nation in 2020....

MKay!

Does not seem to be a problem by my calculations...

Tell me how I am wrong!
The story is about an 89 year old, Boomers would all be between ~57 and 75.

Exactly, they had "adequate" testing because they had a government which decided to prioritize testing based on infection rates (test results) and tracing contacts of those testing positive.

Don forget that Italy has a bigger older age populace of any country in the WORLD
