Stop It With the Coronavirus Curfews Already

More tests. Military assistance with treatment. Access to VA facilities. Ventilators. N95 masks. Surgical masks and other supplies.

The US military is sending a hospital ship to NYC. However, in his usual style, Trump said it would be there in a matter of days, but that vessel is undergoing repairs and won't make it to NYC for several weeks. (Bloomberg - Are you a robot?)

As best it can, yes.

By the way, De Blasio and Cuomo kinda hate each other, and are constantly feuding. De Blasio wouldn't hold back if Cuomo wasn't helping.

Both, but mostly the federal government.

NY State can't order companies to manufacture supplies. Cuomo can instruct the National Guard to take action, but the NG doesn't have the same resources as the full US military. The federal government can, but is apparently still reluctant to pull the trigger on that.

Trump is finally starting to do some of the things we need, but there is still room for improvement. No one should be surprised that the mayor of the US's largest city is doing everything he can to push the state and federal government into action.
NYT: Trump Resists Pressure to Force Companies to Make Coronavirus Supplies

There's always room for improvement during this crisis. Yours was a reasonable response to my questions.
I think deBlasio is using the wrong tactic by criticizing Trump's response. Perhaps he hasn't heard that Trump responds to those who praise him for doing a good job. Ergo, deBlasio is stupid.

Great, more mindless lib Trump bashing. Why dont you start your own thread if you wanna do that?

Trump doesn't need any help to prove he is incompetent and dishonest. He is not a leader, he is a bumbling fool whose dog and pony shows have exacerbated transmission of the Covid 19 crisis.

Below is a link to one more of his failures to consider all of the consquences in his remarks:

The Navy Deploys Two Hospital Ships as the Coronavirus Spreads | WIRED

Trump didn't have much choice in his response. He was surrounded by those who knew much more than he did. Had he refused to go along with the experts all the deaths following would have been on his head. His big mistake was downplaying this crisis in the begining. For that i give him an "F".

His base still believes its all a hoax designed by the democrats to hurt Trump!.

Trump simply does not know when to keep his mouth shut. Or his Twitter account silent.

We have a 1.4% mortality rate, compared to over 4% in China (who really knows about that?), a 7% in Iran, and over 8% in Italy. Our rate is likely to continue downward, as well. Our total deaths so far are nowhere near the swine flu here yet. WTF are you looking at?

hum
Those are the right numbers. Maybe if the ventilators and the test kits come in out greater numbers we'll be able to identify those infected, exhibiting symptoms, give them the right treatment with the right equipment, and keep them from dying. Flattening the curve might just keep people from dying in their homes or in the streets for lack of material resources.

Some brave souls took up arms and died at the call of the nation in the past.
Some bitched and cried and kicked and screamed when told to stay indoors for a few weeks, when called by their nation.

Can you not sacrifice for your nation? Cooperate to achieve a net-better outcome for everyone?

Mach, imagine if this many Americans were that selfish in World War II. Shutting skyscraper lights off at night? Accepting rations! NO! GIMME MAH FREEDUMBS!!

Yeah.
I tell ya, I was sitting their thinking of the military and how Republican leadership always fakes the rubes into believing they are so pro-military rank and file.

What's the military? The most authoritarian expression of government in the United States. They can literally order you, under penalty of jail, to your death.

But somehow when government tries to help a nation in need, OMG DEEP STATE! Authoritarians!! blah blah blah.

We had our chance with impeachment to remove Trump, and Republicans failed to do the right thing. I hope there is hell to pay for them.

Yep, all this martial law is not going to sit well with the majority of Americans for very long. We're used to moving freely, going where we want, and doing whatever the hell we please.

There is a reason to take precautions and prevent the spread of the virus, but when the government mandates all these controls it's not only detrimental to the economy but downright unconstitutional.
This isn't addressing you personally, but I want to pick up on your martial law comment if I may.

We have a lot of people about who still think that this virus is a joke. That could be due to lack of understanding, it could be that some areas are not as affected as others and it just hasn't hit home...yet. People are still out and about touching their faces, coming close to others, hacking and coughing and sneezing at everyone and everything. That is pure ignorance of the facts as we know them.
If...everyone would come to the realization that this bug is no joke and would take on the necessary personal responsibility, we wouldn't need to be told what to do and when to do it.
So be it the young and hip spring breakers, the woke ones who are telling the old ones how it's done, or be it the stubborn old crowd who think they know it all and then some, stop being selfish fools.
End of rant.

How do people arrive at adulthood without knowing this in their bones?
It's the foundation of the bulk of our laws...if people would just be smart/decent, we'd have so many fewer rules and laws. So sad.

Well...

I'm on the fence about the validity of the tactic. That said, De Blasio may be playing to his base, but he's not stupid. I think he knows that Trump cannot screw over the biggest city in the US. And again, De Blasio is not feuding with Cuomo.

I'd add that "Trump doing stuff for NYC" is, well, a mixed blessing. Trump talks big, including exaggerating the help he's giving; but he doesn't care about the details. E.g. The bailout was almost entirely negotiated by Pelosi and Mnuchin, not Pelosi and Trump. Trump might make some impulsive declaration, but he's not going to say "De Blasio is being mean to me, therefore I'm going to send the hospital ship to Miami instead of NYC."

De Blasio is also taking very aggressive steps to try and tamp down the virus. Right now, that is the smartest thing he can do.

I can hear you grumbling about rationing in WWII, building planes instead of cars, liberty ships instead of yachts, etc., and who needs victory gardens? Look, there will be overreactions and under reactions, useless rules and life saving ones. Think of Bush after 9/11 vs after Katrina. I forgive Gov Newsom for thinking we are all in this together.

I suppose the data in the link below will be scary, and it is not my intent to fear monger. The Truth is important for us (all of us in the US) to listen to what the Governors and Mayors are saying, and to disregard most if not all of what Trump&Co. are saying in their dog and pony shows.

Why we’re not overreacting to the coronavirus pandemic, in one chart - Vox

I know my comment will be seen as partisan, but the facts suggest the truth be told, no matter how severe the criticism of Trump is, but the situation we are in is a definite life or death matter.

IMHO Gov. Newsom's actions were what Trump didn't do, and today stated he would not do. The CA Governor was putting people before politics, trump was putting himself before the people, and has been being political for way too long.

WWII was a different situation because we were attacked by the Japanese, and Germany declared war on us. Not only did we have to go to war, we were just coming out of a huge depression. Rationing and conserving goods were necessary. Those good old days our grandparents lived through back then weren't so good. The 1940s were a far different time than 2020 - very few or none of the scientific, technological, or health care advancements were available like they are now.

America shouldn't be behaving like it's wartime all over again because it isn't.

Bush reacted like a dumbhead after the 9-11 attacks - maybe not at first, but a year later he diverted the military efforts to Iraq. We had absolutely no reason to spend billions of dollars attacking a country which had nothing to do with 9-11. Turned out to be an absolute disaster which had little support at the end of Bush's term.

So yeah I was grumbling a lot about what we did to fight terrorists after 9-11 because we didn't go after the true source, just like I'm fairly pissed about this current government control of our lives.

It appears we're making progress on those fronts. We also may have a breakthrough on the cure front in the near future.

I agree, but I don’t get it. Why does the guy say dumb stuff that is so quickly contradicted by scientist who know more? He is supposed to comfort us, but he needs to use truth.

Not everyone is saying that so knock off the lies. The UK practiced herd immunity and other alternatives have been mentioned.

That's a neat way to say "Ignore it entirely and let people die off."

Yeah, right... you'll soon have a riot in your hands.

Please riot.

Naw, a bald statement of fact. Outside of an available vaccine, how do you get herd immunity?

Oh, right. By letting the virus rip through the population unchecked.

Not unchecked, there are various ways to stem the infection, but of course you wont bother to look at it that way, because... Trump.

Yeah, like lowering the infection rate curve?

Which doesn't provide herd immunity.

I hadnt read about that. I'm not sure that's correct, are you saying that the UK is encouraging spread to infect as many people as possible to generate future immunity? Because usually that is done with vaccines and you are artificially creating immunity with the vaccines, not intentional infection...do you have any links?

Dr.Fauci was talking about future immunity today in the press conference...that next yr should be better if/when this virus comes around again because most people should have some immunity. However there've been many cases of re-infection so we dont know if infection will confer immunity...or how much. Odd he's saying that.
