With a few exceptions, my Catholic Church is keeping their Mass schedules the same as always. Dioceses in Ohio and Los Angeles are not requiring mass attendance, and Seattle, San Diego, Boston, Colorado and Washington DC dioceses have canceled mass for the next three weeks. My diocese in a conservative area has given the most common sense response: No drinking from chalices or using holy water. No hand shake of peace, no hand-holding during the Our Father. If you feel at risk, stay home. This is what ALL organizations should be doing instead of canceling. Very commonsense. Predictably it's the left and leftwing areas who are pushing to cancel events in general All in an attempt to disrupt the economy and daily life so Trump will be blamed. One notable exception is the San Francisco diocese which is simply telling people who feel at risk they can stay home.

Ironically, places canceling like Boston, DC and Seattle are areas where church attendance is needed most. Those are extremely leftwing areas who have a desperate need for God.

In the NE all the Catholic churches are closed for the duration of this plague.

Doesn't that figure? The leftwing environment up there puts pressure on everyone to close in order to damage Trump AND to keep people away from church. Really reflects the attitude of the area. Conservative places tend to tough it out and keep going to church.

And they'll wind up filling up the cemeteries with dead Catholics.

What are mosques and synagogues doing?

I'm not attending church in person until I feel it's safe, whenever that may be.

And die more.

Mass for shut ins.

Do it.

why has Trump declared a national emergency???

Average age of the VERY FEW deaths: 81. This isn't a problem But the president, being the great leader he is is showing a lot of caution, even though he knows this whole thing is overblown by the left.

The hypocrisy of white evangelicals blind support of a man like Trump has kept more people from church since 2016 than anything else.

The best thing for a pandemic is to have everyone line up and take a sip of wine from the same chalice....

A friend of mine that is a priest posted this for his parishners:

"There is a big difference between being prepared and being afraid! Preparation is wise and sensible. Cancelling events, yes, even Mass, is wise. We are not immune from disease and illness just because we are going to church. Cancelling Mass does NOT equate to a lack of faith, but demonstrates great faith in the same God who gifted us with Wisdom, Courage, and Understanding!

To disregard and ignore the need to limit personal contact is narcissistic! This is not about your right or mine to receive the sacraments, but about our obligation to protect those who are most vulnerable, even in the most extreme way possible.

Please be mindful of the young, the old, those with weakened immune systems, and all who will have the difficult task of caring for those affected. Pray for our community, and for the whole world. Yes, we will get through this, and hopefully with reason to smile and laugh. But, first... we must courageously be prepared!
I am not afraid, but I am prepared to protect everyone around me in every way possible!
Please keep us updated on your health and that of your loved ones. We will do our best to care for your needs."

How does closing churches hurt trump in any way?

As the average age of the dead is 81, I echo the church's advice; If you think you are at risk, stay home. I'm attending mass later this morning without one shred of fear.

The mindset of closing everything, of preaching economic upheaval...these are all things designed to undermine the president.

Well I hope you don't know anyone over the age of 70 or are in any contact with them.

It occurs to me, if our national strategy is simply to “flatten the curve” (and not to actually avoid the virus), shouldn’t we want healthy people to get it relatively quickly, to build up herd immunity? If we’re accepting the passage of the virus through the American population as inevitable, the most rational policy would be to narrowly tailor “distancing” measures to the at-risk population.

Thank you for posting this (especially the bolded). It really demonstrates that those who are promoting the current fad do not know what they are talking about.

Fortunately, the more informed and educated on this very dangerous pandemic aren't doing as you are doing, and putting not only their own lives at risk; but other's lives as well.

If I was the leader of a church. I would cancel community gathering and ask those faithful perishers to like like munks for the next month. Study, pray, eat, sleep then repeat.

Link to validate your positive claim that 'Trump knows this whole thing is overblown by the left."

Why did the president declare a national emergency on Friday? Why has he revoked entry from anyone from Europe?

then he's over blowing it too.

When you can figure out a way to insure that only healthy people get it quickly, then you have a winner of a solution. We can even come up with a name....let's see... we could call it a vaccine

The problem with your plan is we can't insure that only healthy people get it quickly and nobody else.

it's almost like countries are reacting the way they are so some people don't die.

GOD FORBID.

Or actually have people who know what they are talking about advising leaders... The confusion by some is probably because we have had just over three years of leadership where BS trumped actual knowledge of an issue and now that won't work.

which was preceded by 30 years of BS by Rush and Sean which prepared the base to accept the BS by our current BS Artist in the White House.

The travel ban does not stop Americans and those with green cards from travelling to and from Europe.

Trump announced on Wednesday that the US "will be suspending all travel from Europe to the United States for the next 30 days."

The ban, slated to begin on Friday, only applies to foreign nationals, not American citizens, their immediate family members and legal permanent residents.

Returning travelers will be screened prior to entering the US and asked to self-quarantine for 14 days.
The ban also does not apply to all of Europe, but currently stretches only to countries in the Schengen zone, which allows free movement through European Union countries.

I wonder if the travel ban will be extended to cover Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia - they do have airports with international flights.

Nations covered by the ban are the Schengen Area countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.
