Coronavirus: COVID-19 Is Now Officially A Pandemic, WHO Says : Goats and Soda : NPR

The COVID-19 viral disease that has swept into at least 114 countries and killed more than 4,000 people is now officially a pandemic, the World Health Organization announced Wednesday.

"This is the first pandemic caused by coronavirus," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

Eight countries — including the U.S. — are now each reporting more than 1,000 cases of COVID-19, caused by the virus that has infected more than 120,000 people worldwide.

Here we go everyone...

This will probably be followed by some sort of 'emergency' meeting at the White House. Just a guess. Doctors, both epidemiological and spin, will be in attendance.

Or Pence will just lead a large prayer circle.

Doesn't make any sense, Trump specifically said the number of cases would soon be close to zero.

"when you have 15 people, and the 15 within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero, that's a pretty good job we've done."

Just like when Obama had to take the crisis from Bush, another democrat will have to save this country yet again.

So yours is just another orange man bad thread...

Then he should stop being bad at his job so there is no reason to make these posts.

Nope, he's just pointing out that history is about to repeat itself. The last criminal Republican leadership led the world to the brink of disaster and then a Democrat had to rescue us.

You appear to care more about using the virus to bash and scapegoat the president than elaborating on the premise of your thread.

I am sure you are perceiving exactly what you wish to perceive

I suggest though, instead of investing your energy in your own perceptions, you take a peek on how diseases spread and why early announcement and containment measures are necessary in these situations.

....****

Had my own "Biden moment" there, lol.

I think it would be a great comfort, also if trump would dry-hump another American flag and talk about how the bible is his favorite book.

I think its more a "republicans bad" thing.

There's a pattern at work:

Republicans fu k **** up, Democrats fix it while republicans fight every step of the way. Then Republicans get in and everything gets **** it up again.

Repeat ad nauseum.

I mean, if the Bible is Trump's favorite book, he must constantly skip the sections on “Thou shalt not commit adultery”, “Thou shalt not steal”, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor”, etc. Doesn't really seem to obey those very well.

He just misunderstood what was meant by loving your neighbor as yourself.

Even just stupid me predicted that it was all over the country and quietly spreading when there were only a few confirmed cases here.

Now we get the joy of harsher measures to contain it.

And the market is tanking anyway, so the downplaying didn't even help that.

He loves looks at the ten commandments as a to do list...

And these posts of yours are where?

Yeah.

It's about ****ing time the WHO called it what it is. Delaying calling this pandemic was the worse thing they could have done. Declaring a pandemic puts very specific gears into motion. Limiting personal travel, closing factories where the virus has erupted, asking people to stay out of crowded stores or other public places. A declaration of pandemic prompts cities and countries to lay out plans for quarantines and possible disruptions to public events. It can also kick-start the expedited development of therapeutics and vaccines.

The main reason nobody was willing to come out a week ago and call this a pandemic is essentially a financial reason. It will hurt the economies of countries all over the world. I was watching the Bloomberg Business channel and heard someone say that this pandemic will kill millions of Americans. That sounds pretty hysterical to me but at this point, nobody can really tell him 'no it's not, you're wrong' because nobody knows a thing about this virus.

Speaking of which, the G7 that Trump wanted to hold at his Doral Golf Resort, remember that? Now it's going to be done through tele-conferencing. Putting Mike Pence in charge of his task force was a big mistake. The goal from the beginning was to down-play it and not cause a panic. Mike Pence was perfect for that but that's not what this country needed. We need someone who is experienced in virology or epidemiology, someone with the CDC or Surgeon General's office. Downplaying coronavirus is not only pointless, it's downright dangerous.

I want to see someone with knowledge and experience to step to the microphone and tell us that every doctors office, every walk-in clinic and every business and school will have millions of test swabs at hand to test any person that walks in and says "I don't feel so good". Test the hell out of everyone, that's how you stop a pandemic from expanding.

And how do these doctors from Wuhan, who remove masks, fit into the General picture of panic and hopelessness, that the corrupt media enthusiastically draw ?

NOW y'all can call this a pandemic.

(of course, since you always have to use your hyperbole, you'll soon be calling this the end of civilization as we know it.

But then, she said the same thing back in 2014 and civilization didn't end then, either.

I don't believe the WHO or CDC has a term that means the end of civilization as we know it.

I may be wrong.
