pilotless aircraft have been in use since the 1940s, would any dpers be a passenger on a pilotless aircraft?

I wouldn't want to. I want someone at the controls whose life is at stake as well. Virtually anyone can be taught to fly, given enough time. And we have the technology to make computers fly. But when everything goes to SH**, you need a pilot who knows how to earn his pay and is highly motivated to do so. Captain Sully comes to mind.

A root canal is less stressful

They have driverless trucks in the South West right now.

I don't know. I depends if it was a lot cheaper than with a pilot or not.

Don't planes these days practically fly themselves? And with a pilot?

Sure. Probably better than some of the pilots I’ve flown with.

you may have already been on one and not known it.

Would you want to be on a pilotless plane when a bird strike knocks out the engines? Or when the landing gear fails to deploy? Or when the cross winds are 30 miles per hour upon landing? These are times when the pilot earns his pay. But if the cost of having an experienced pilot is simply too cost prohibitive or it might cut into the shareholders dividends, well then just let the machines die with the paying passengers.

Riding in a drone, eventually. I'll wait for the rich guys flying their drones from their backyards to work out the bugs.

I seriously doubt that. I have several pilot acquaintances. Air Traffic controllers have to upgrade their equipment big time before they can vector drones.

That is exactly correct. Before the public sees drone airliners, they'll see a fully automated ATC system.

Welcome to the first transatlantic pilotless flight. We are flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet. This flight is being controlled by computer. Do not worry, nothing can go wrong go wrong go wrong go wrong go wrong go wrong......

I wouldn't even ride in a driverless car, let alone a pilotless aircraft.

The creation of unmanned vehicles, autonomous discoloration systems, and most importantly, artificial intelligence that could live and develop independently of a person. thanks to such breakthrough technologies, it will allow to populate the planet Mars, and in the future to build a colony of cars there. which will develop regardless of the person! Such prospects for the future, among us, among the young rulers of the world. And you are old losers, you will remain in the send, while no one will remember you. but be sure that they will write a book about you, the losers of the ruling system, who have passed away forever!

Very funny!

The one thing that cars need is a colony on Mars.

Learning to fly is a mechanical skill that almost anyone can be taught. Learning the judgment and decision making skills needed to be a safe pilot? Many people but certainly not everyone.

Not a snowball’s chance in hell of that being true.

And no I wouldn’t want to be a passenger in a pilotless aircraft. If I’d had my choice I’d never be a passenger period and fly myself wherever I needed to go.

LOL
You might want to go back and figure out just who it was that laid the foundation , and did the footwork so all this may happen up to know
It was those old losers you talk about
Have a nice day

A pilot friend of mine told me that the only time he touches the controls is when the aircraft is less than 200 feet from the ground.

The main reason we have pilots now is to safely drive the aircraft when it is on the tarmac around other aircraft, and for landings in a crosswind. It is far easier to automate a flying airplane than it is a driving vehicle.

I’m sorry but that is spoken like someone who knows nothing about what flying an airplane is all about.

I’m a flight instructor. I’ve been teaching people to fly planes on and off for 2 decades. Teaching you the mechanics of of taking off, flying around and then landing is simple. I could teach you that in a few hours.

That’s not what you pay pilots for. You pay them for those instances when things go to ****. You pay them for those things we can’t currently teach electronics. You pay them for their judgement and decision making skills. For beinging years of experience to dealing with a problem that a software engineering team never envisioned. You pay them for their ability to improvise.

And you’ll keep paying them for that until we actually have try AI, not the brittle faux rule based systems we used now.

It's the same deal as with pilotless automobiles. And, its usually the same group of people that also believe robots will take over from humans the majority of jobs in our nation to the point where humans will be subservient to robots.

These people, who embrace these ideas are typically liberal democrats who have very little understanding of the actual mechanics of our economy and individual and specific jobs from within. These people embrace these ideas because they don't know any better and they don't care to actually educate themselves on the issues, they let the liberal media do that for them.

Please take what any liberal democrat and/or socialist (very closely related) has to say with a grain of salt. There will never be pilotless airplanes. The "dumbing down" of the pilot, and this increased reliance on computers and autopilot systems has actually lead an increase in pilot error when they have to react to an emergency. Air France Flight 447 is a good example. Another good example is Aeroflot Flight 593, yes, there were mitigating factors (such as a kid in the cockpit), but ultimately, it was the crew who failed to recover from the "situation" due to lack of understanding of the automated systems on the plane. No doubt automated and computer controlled systems have most likely saved lives as well, I don't want you to think this is totally lopsided to one side, but the reality of the situation is that pilots are becoming more and more reliant on computerized systems to fly the plane, thus weakening their reflexes to a problem that could be easily correctable if the pilot was actually flying the plane.

Fair point. I only mean that pilotless aircraft are going to come sooner than driverless cars.
