Never mind that the recent epstein case (and that of George Nader) show us that pedophiles and child-sex fiends have friends in high places on both sides of the aisle, why is it in particular that right-wingers focus on child abuse (i.e. Pizzagate) in their conspiracies? Part of it is no doubt projection, but a recent article argues it is rooted in the backlash against the sexual revolution.
Why Are Right-Wing Conspiracies so Obsessed With Pedophilia? – Mother Jones
A short summary:
1. Tangentially rooted in the ancient idea that Jews (later projected onto new enemies) ate children and drank their blood
2. The Republicans, from Nixon to Reagan opposed legislation to make childcare easier; they called it communism, when the right was really against feminism.
3. Co-opting then weaponizing the liberal approach of believing the victims whenever someone came forward
4. 'Believing' Rumors about daycare centres such as McMartin in California; a reaction to the concept of working mothers, the fear of a family breakdown with kids as the victims
5. The claims get wilder: official complacency or complicity, cover-ups satanic rituals, murders and so on
6. A lengthy and inconclusive public trial encourages slow-boiling national panic that makes all daycare centres suspect, and the nefarious feminist motives behind their reason for being
7. Accusations spread to other natural bugbears for the right - gay people and trans rights - as these have their day in the sun the way feminism did; bathroom scares and the like ensue.
8. Panic is further transferred to other institutions, now at internet speed, such as Pizza parlors and the DNC
9. Finally the conspiracy is 'validated' when a high profile case like Epstein comes along.
This more or less brings us to the present state of using child abuse as a stick to beat any opponent with, whether it is justified or not. Note the mad rush for each side to associate the other's 'figurehead' (Trump or Clinton in this case) with Jeffrey Epstein.

"The QAnon conspiracy picked up where Pizzagate left off, alleging that the liberal elite’s pedophile ring extends way beyond one restaurant and that it is only a matter of time before Trump arrests Podesta, Clinton, and other Democratic power brokers for their crimes. All of this was fueled by an anonymous internet poster dubbed Q, who claims to be a government insider."
