Medical myths

But they say all that without evidence! The recent increase in life expectancy could be entirely because of less smoking. Smoking is a major cause of CVD.

How did they figure out how much was caused by less smoking and how much by drugs? As I said, myths are repeated until everyone assumes they must be true.

They did research. I posted a list of scholarly papers on the subject. Take the time to peruse them.

So it sounds to me like you are saying we should be doing SOMETHING differently. But I can't quite tell what. What would you recommend we do differently, if anything?

Be skeptical about medical myths. They are intended to convince people that everyone needs medical interventions. That without cholesterol-lowering drugs, for example, everyone's life would be short.

I don't need to take time to peruse your list. I have already read those and much more. All you have done is soaked up the mythology.

It is only a myth in your opinion. You have not explained.

If only you would PERUSE all the available information on average lifespan, maybe you would start to get it.

OK. You go ahead and be skeptical. Let us know how it goes.

And where did you get the "fact" that most people require medical intervention in old age? Most people are getting drugs, but is it a fact that they require them?

At the very end of life, yes, there may be drastic attempts to prevent death. Because our medical industry thinks death is a disease that can be cured.

Adult life expectancy has jumped by a little over a decade, why do you suppose that is?

It may be that its better to die a few years sooner than go on drugs, but that's more of a philosophical argument, and unrelated to the question of whether or not drugs work.

There might be interventions that prolong life in a disabled state. But just as likely life expectancy increased recently because of decreases in cigarette smoking.

You can be pretty sure there have been no recent medical advances that improve health.

I suppose that when he gets sick he goes to a shaman.

If I needed antibiotics or surgery I would go to an MD.

Aside from that, most sickness either gets better on its own, or else is not curable.

I would hope for your sake you never get cancer

I would hope for your sake you never get cancer

A dance widdershins around the room and some chicken bones under your pillow would cure that.

I have chronic myeloid leukemia and I am alive because of the worldwide medical conspiracy.

If any of our medical myth CT fans were given the choice of staying here or going back two hundred years then I'm sure that they would choose to stay here.

I would hope for your sake you never get cancer

Most cancer is not curable. That is a fact, and oncologists will admit it. One of the medical myths is that cancer is usually curable.

MOST cancer is not curable. You seem to think only in absolutes.

If cancer is localized and can be removed by surgery, it can be cured.

You confuse your personal uninformed opinion as fact
Again, for your sake I hope you never get cancer because with that attitude you are F****d

Anyone who gets cancer that is not localized will probably not be cured. They will get chemotherapy that makes them sick and might prolong their life a little.

Chemo cured me your uninformed opinion is just that uninformed
