This one is real, and it's happening now. Cigarette smoking being banned from almost everywhere in my state.

AND I AM SO GLAD!!!!

Finally a conspiracy from the authorities that makes sense.

What I want to know is why it has been taking so long.

Apartment buildings have been the worst. The inside of a tenant's apartment is, supposedly, their own home and they can do whatever they like. Even if their disgusting smoke pours into their neighbors' apartments.

And they can stand outside their door and smoke, not knowing or caring if it's going in their neighbors' windows.

UNTIL TODAY. I just got a notice from my landlord. NO MORE SMOKING ANYWHERE ON THE PREMISES. Everyone who wants to keep smoking here has to leave.

I hope my smoking neighbors will make the right decision and quit smoking so they can stay.

I quit many years ago, but I'm not that kind of ex smoker. I don't really care what people do. It's exceptionally easy for me to avoid smoke now that I don't play shows that often. When I quit, I promised myself that I wouldn't become one of the anti-smoking zealots that annoyed the **** out of me back then. Do I think that it's a very unhealthy and smelly habit? Yep. That’s why I share my method of quitting when asked. That's as far as I go, though.

Um... what?

I must say as an avid bowler the best day was when it was banned from the alleys. People still go outside to smoke although the numbers are dwindling. You can go into the bar, get a drink, watch a little TV, talk and not die of second hand smoke.

Maybe you aren't sensitive to cigarette smoke. If I get anywhere near it I can't breath. I had to move out of apartments as soon as smokers moved in near me.

Even if second hand smoke doesn't bother you, it is still damaging your health, especially if it's in your home.

People used to say second hand smoke is harmless. Why would it be harmless? It's the same smoke that causes heart disease and cancer. Now we know it's harmful, finally.

People used to say you can do whatever you want in your own home. Oh really? Can you set off firecrackers? Burn toxic waste?

:lamo I must say, I'm bowled over by the irony you have given us, when comparing this thread to your anti-vaxxer thread.

Sorry, I might agree with the initiative, but I have zero ****s to give about the societal health opinions of an anti-vaxxer.

I never said I was against vaccines. I said they should be tested for safety.

But there is no irony anyway. I don't want to be injected with toxic artificial genetically engineered chemicals and viruses. And I don't want to be forced to breath toxic smoke with artificial mystery ingredients. (Natural tobacco is not nearly as bad as cigarettes with all the fake crap that's added and not listed as ingredients).

What I want to know is why it has been taking so long.

Because some people kept buying propaganda, like this one is doing now...

I am NOT willing to go along with the medical industry pushing more and more vaccines. They do NOT have good evidence that this is safe or necessary....Our government has teamed up with the big drug companies, that is obvious....what Big Tech and Big Drug and the US government don't want us to know
...
so many children got it after being vaccinated. But that could be a coincidence, a lot of coincidences. And parents are not medical experts so they know nothing about their own children.
...
Research has shown no connection between vaccines and autism. But you can make research show anything you want, practically.
...
One thing I do know is I do not trust Big Drug or our nanny government and its Big Tech friends.

SOME research has shown no connection. Other research has shown connections with autism, and many other diseases and disorders. And just plain old common sense could tell you that the horrible stuff they are injecting into newborns will have consequences.

But I know, I know, you have no use for common sense. Just trust the experts whatever ridiculous things they tell you.

Even as an ex-smoker, I'm not keen on being told what to do in my home by anyone, and I'd be unlikely to stay in such a place, even after I quit.

But then I find the entire concept of the HOA anything like that offensive. It's maybe an Appalachian thing, but your home is inviolate. Clearly that works best when you own the place to begin with, though.

I'm a bit curious how they intend to handle violations. I've heard in some areas it's not very easy to evict people, and landlords aren't in the business to run their customers off.

A truly dreadful habit that leads to a truly dreadful disease...

Whether or not second smoke is harmful continues to be debated. But for me like a number of people I just hate having to smell exhaled cigarette smoke.

If you can smoke a cigarette and not exhale the crap then go for it.

1-2-3-4 waiting for the perfume response.

I'm not Helix but vaping has been a huge help for everyone I know who has quit.

I got one of those Juuls for a discreet nicotine hit. Then I got one of these for when I really need a buzz:

"Why has it taken so long?" That's an easy question to answer. It's because the tobacco lobbyists put enough money in the pockets of Congressmen to prevent passing any legislation on both the State and Federal levels.

How did you quit?

I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book. Best fifteen bucks I ever spent. It kind of deprograms you, and then you just sort of walk away from the habit. It worked for a couple of my friends, so I figured what the hell. I was surprised that it worked for me, but it did.

I just don't go around it, mostly because I don't want my clothes to smell like ****.

It worked for me 10 years ago. Worked for my son too. Much cheaper too. :2party: Non-smokers have no idea, not even close, to how horribly difficult it is to give up the smoking habit. It's been reported that cigarettes are as difficult to give up as cocaine or heroin.

Yeah, the first couple years after I quit, we were playing bars every week, and the air was just thick with it. It has gotten better since then, though.

Good for you! I quit in 1999. My doc gave me a prescription for Wellbutrin, he said to take it for three weeks then quit. That worked for me and I’ve been nic free all this time. It’s nice being able to breathe.

It has been almost 20 years for me now. Dang, time flies.
I don't like stale smell of cigarettes, you know, the ones who seemingly never open a window, smoke indoors and everything they own smells nasty. That grosses me out to no end.
We stayed at a motel some years back, and the only room available was a smoking room. Ice storm approaching, we didn't have a choice. We actually threw out our luggage and anything that wasn't washable, because it took on the stench. I tried just about everything to get rid of that smell.
A freshly lit cigarette still turns my head to this day. Something about it.
Anti smoking zealot I am not, but I understand that some apartments and houses are so close together, one can hardly avoid some drifting. If all parties involved would show a bit more respect, the smokers more so than the non smokers, may be we wouldn't need all these laws.

I quit over 20 years ago (using the patch) and I have to say of all my "bad habits" back then it was the most difficult. I think mainly because those other habits had a time and place where as smoking was just an all the time thing. I was never person to wake up in the middle of the night and smoke, or keep them on the night stand to grab first thing in the morning but I was a pack a day (more if I was at the bar). I had a friend who literally smoked while standing in the shower and thought WOW now that's pretty bad.

I have one friend now who smokes. She's tried to quite 3 times in the past two years using Chantix. She lasts about a month, maybe 2 and then back to it. I don't allow smoking in my vehicle (even back when I smoked) so once stopped she has to seek out a "smoking area" to get her fix. The smoke doesn't bother me, and I'm also not one to "nag" because as I told someone last week, it's their money and health as well as time out of their life to find a place to do it while out at parks, movies, social events. I will admit I love watching them stand out in the rain though.

First bolded, might as well not wash your body or brush your teeth...
Even better when a sulphuric match is used for ignition!

I get physically sick around second hand smoke, especially if there's no source of fresh air. It is vile poison and I don't need to wait for scientific confirmation. I can't even be in the homes of smokers because the chemicals are leeching out of their reeking furniture and I get a migraine.

I don't tell them what to do, but I just automatically avoid smokers. I'll cross the street to get away from them. The stuff is toxic and it negatively affects me. I know there are a small number of smokers out there who will always smoke no matter what, no matter what they read about cancer, no matter how much money it costs them, no matter who they alienate even if it's their own children. I think they should have the freedom to enjoy their habit as long as it doesn't affect others around them. For myself, I will avoid them. I have no friends who are smokers and people are not allowed to smoke on my property.

More than the smokers, I blame tobacco companies for formulating a highly addictive product. Even organic tobacco is not as an addictive. Nobody is allowed to sell cocaine or heroin but they can sell this crap to anyone of age and get away with poisoning our society. Now everyone vapes and we're supposed to feel better about that, until everyone starts getting popcorn lung.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't believe there is one way that works for everybody. In my case I just quit buying and puffing. I never missed smoking. My friend asked how I quit. i told him and he did and it worked. But he misses it every day.
