David Keith, a scientist at Harvard, has been advocating the use of solar radiation management to slow global warming. He announced that they would begin experimenting this year. The idea is to simulate the result of a volcano, which blocks sunlight and cools the earth. This has happened naturally in the past.

There are have been many conspiracy theories about this. People see "chemtrails" in the sky, which are like jet plane exhaust but remain in the sky for hours. But mainstream science news tells us there are no chemtrails, just normal jet exhaust.

So Keith announced the plan to start spraying calcium carbonate dust. In other words, chalk dust.

First sun-dimming experiment will test a way to cool Earth

According to the conspiracy theories, this has already been going on for quite a while, using various substances.

So is solar radiation management just starting, or has it been going on secretly? Have any of these scientists thought about implications for health? Is it ok to breath in nanoparticles of chalk dust?

I have been observing chemtrails since 2013. They don't look at all like normal jet exhaust. They leave a dusty haze all over the sky.

HAARP also is thought to be involved.

You won't see any mention of these things in mainstream news. Since it has been declared a conspiracy theory, hardly anyone talks about it. No one wants to be seen as a conspiracy theory nut.

This is in the correct forum. They are normal jet exhaust.

And another one opened. But that is beside the point. There is solar radiation management. It is not just a conspiracy theory.

So-called "geoengineering" projects turn my blood cold.

When these things fail, they fail spectacularly. Everything from producing toxic wastelands, to cancers, to depleted water tables, to devastation of ecosystems through inadvertent extermination of critical species--which are the known effects. The unknown effects can't even be quantified.

Simulating the effects of a volcano eruption--a natural event--seems like the cleanest shirt in a pile of dirty laundry, although I still wouldn't put it past the experimenters to overlook something and accidentally wipe out an ecosystem or two. At least they're not pumping putting silver iodide or aluminum silicates into the air, which has been tried.

Incidentally, weather manipulation isn't new, and is regarded as more than a conspiracy theory. Research into it was traditionally more for warfare than an attempt to combat climate change, which gives you an idea of how potentially dangerous it is. See here for a brief but useful compilation of articles, most of them mainstream.

No links to the articles, just claims. Useful is not the first word that comes to mind.

Zero Hedge is an insane Austrian school finance blog run by two pseudonymous founders who post articles under the name "Tyler Durden," after the character from Fight Club. It's essentially apocalypse porn. It has accurately predicted 200 of the last 2 recessions.

Tyler claims to be a "believer in a sweeping conspiracy that casts the alumni of Goldman Sachs as a powerful cabal at the helm of U.S. policy, with the Treasury and the Federal Reserve colluding to preserve the status quo." While this is not an entirely unreasonable statement of the problem,[1] his solution actually mirrors the antagonist in Fight Club: Tyler wants, per Austrian school ideas, to lead a catastrophic market crash in order to destroy banking institutions and bring back "real" free market capitalism.[2]

The site posts nearly indecipherable analyses of multiple seemingly unrelated subjects to point towards a consistent theme of economic collapse any day now. Tyler seems to repeat The Economic Collapse Blog's idea of posting blog articles many times a day and encouraging people to post it as far and wide as humanly possible. Tyler moves away from the format of long lists to write insanely dense volumes[3] filled with (often contradicting) jargon that makes one wonder if the writers even know what the words actually mean.[4] The site first appeared in early 2009, meaning that (given Tyler's habit of taking a **** on each and every positive data point), anyone listening to him from the beginning missed the entire 2009-2017 rally in the equities market.

An excellent thread. I'm curious, since Harvard is involved, as to why this isn't in the climate section?

This sounds like an excellent scientific proposal and experiment.

They don't seem concerned about possible longterm effects of taking in nanoparticles. Why is it ok to breath calcium carbonate? Sure it depends on how much, but we don't know how much there is or will be. Or what other substances they will try or have tried.

We also can't assume that only the US does this. Any nation or organization is free to spray whatever they want into the atmosphere, as there are no laws preventing them.

It's in the conspiracy theory section since there have been many conspiracy theories about this. And even though they are starting to talk about it openly, it still seems to be a taboo subject. I used to find lots of information, but now it's hard to find.

It seems like the public has stopped objecting to this kind of thing. Maybe people are afraid of being labelled conspiracy theorists. And the big social media companies might be censoring it.

And no, it does not sound to me like an excellent proposal. It sounds reckless and dangerous. It might cause major catastrophes, or subtle health problems that eventually lead to serious chronic illness.

Objecting to people inventing daft conspiracy theories?

Why would people want to spray stuff into the atmosphere that would harm their families and themselves?

I know someone who believes in chemtrails, but she believes that mind control chemicals are being sprayed.

Weather and mind control chemicals being sprayed during WW2.

You actually think they know whether or not it would be harmful? Maybe they just assume it would not be. I didn't see any mention of health concerns in that Nature article. No mention of checking with any medical experts.

So what are they spraying worldwide?

Well, if as some say our planet is heading towards a climate that will not support human life as we know it, then perhaps influencing the climate to arrest that trajectory might be easier than sending rockets to other planets or solar systems to keep the human seed going. Just a thought.

Well sure, they can try a desperate attempt to save the planet. But their "solution" could turn out to be much worse than the supposed problem.

Or it could work.

I'm glad to hear that you are not a mind control chemtrail buff.

Or it could work.

Great. Let them try a big experiment that could cause a disaster, without our consent. Just let those Harvard scientists do whatever they think is best.

When you say them are you referring to every government in the world?

Oh yes zyzygy, every single government in the world. I have been to each and every one of them and saw them do it. I did not miss a single one. They were happy to show me everything they have been doing in secret.
