Was DeSantis monkey comment part of a plan to start a Civil War?

I've never been to other English Speaking countries, unless you want to count Canada visiting an aquarium? But I HAVE been from one coast of this country to the other and back again. The only states I haven't been to is the north eastern ones, Alaska and Hawaii. That you haven't heard the term though does not mean that it doesn't exist. There are lots of words and phrases that I'm STILL learning about. I'd imagine that you don't know all of them either. For instance did you know that the term "nigga" actually has a completely different meaning in S. Korea? It simply means "you". Just found that out a few days ago due to my wife listening to a Korean pop band called BTS. So, just because you don't know the phrase doesn't mean it doesn't and has never existed. Be more willing to learn instead of just trash. It will do ya good. ;)

Whites coined the term "saggin" when blacks started wearing their britches hanging off their buts. Spell saggin backwards, sneaky white people!

I never claimed the term never existed.

Meh, there's a few theories about how that term came about. One is from a black man that was in prison his whole life. Apparently he contends that it came about due to prisoners that controlled other prisoners forcing those prisoners to keep their pants loose so that they could be butt ****ed whenever the prisoner in power felt like it. Another theory is that it came about during the slavery days when slave owners would punish a slave by butt ****ing them over a stump in front of their families and inviting other slave masters to do it also. So who knows how it actually came about.

Funny though that in each case the theory is always about butt sex.....

Sure, you never said it straight out. But it certainly was implied when you claimed that you googled it and it came back with "zip" and then wondering if it was a "Freudian slip".

In my 52 years I have not heard the expression. I googled the expression, zip. The man is an idiot for saying it, Fruedian slip ?

Your suspicious nature is not my problem, its yours.

no.

Thank you for the easiest poll to answer ever. I'm going to go bang my head against a wall now, it'll be more entertaining than reading this kind of garbage "analysis" of situations.

Background:

  • DeSantis created a campaign ad showing him reading pro-swampy material to his children
  • Swampy has endorsed DeSantis
  • Swampy claims he hasn't heard the news about the monkey comment (which means that he definitely has)
  • Fox News says they do not condone the monkey comment

Knowing how closely the WH and Fox News works together and how much DeSantis seems to love Mr. Swampy. Is it out of the realm of possibilities that the comment was not just metaphorically out of Swampy's playbook, but that he literally is actually directing the action?

Notice how this story quickly spread through social media and became the number one story in the media today. Yes, what I am saying is the the liberals took the bait again and ran with it.

It is an interesting question you pose. Because it is such an awkward phrase, one I've never heard before, it is possible that it was deliberate.

Here in Florida, Trumpism is still ascendant in the GOP.

The TDS is strong in this one. Why so hysterical? I thought you guys are counting on a Blue Wave, what do you have to worry about?

I'm 43 and I've heard the term before. But then again I have moved around the US quite a bit so maybe its a regional thing. And you must not have googled all that hard considering mike provided the definition of it from Mirriam-Webster quite handily in post 10.

Small point here: yes, I've heard "monkeying around" for decades. Never heard "monkey things up"

I am prior military, lived on both coasts, the South and Midwest. Worked with folks from all over this country. In addition I lived in two other English speaking countries, never heard the expression.

It comes from our parent's generation.

Eitherway, its not the way to start a campaign.

Some are just to sensitive. A better choice of words could have been used. On the other hand those who are finding offense should grow up.

you got one thing correct, he should have chosen his words better

"The past is another country, they do things differently there"-L.P. Hartley. My dad used the term "Sambo". He'd never met a black person in his life.

Appartly the same day he said “ monkey it up “ to attack his opponent , he was also exposed as a moderator of a racist Facebook page.

From the following :

The same day Ron DeSantis used a racist dog-whistle to attack his opponent, the Florida Republican was exposed as a moderator of a virulently racist Facebook page.

Trump-endorsed GOP nominee Ron DeSantis was already under fire for using a racist dog-whistle during a Fox News interview this week.

But newly uncovered evidence shows that dog-whistles are just the start for DeSantis, who is running against Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum — the first African-American to be nominated for governor in Florida.

As first discovered by Media Matters extremism researcher Natalie Martinez, DeSantis is listed as a moderator for a Tea Party Facebook group
where members share racist, conspiratorial, and hateful content aimed at a range of targets “including black Americans and South Africans, the ‘deep state,’ survivors of February’s massacre at a Florida high school, immigrants, Muslims and, in recent days, John McCain,” according to American Ledger.

Sounds very CT, imo.

.

Well thats interesting. Walk me through it. DeSantis purposely wanted to work the word monkey into his comments...for what purpose exactly? Do you think the racists in Florida were uncertain as to whom to vote for and were in need of some sort of sign?

Some people are into pushing the buttons and pulling the chains of other people, don't you think? I've met people like that, and I've done it myself. Racism and xenophobia are common here in Florida. I can only speculate about what things might DeSantis might think. I've never met him before and know nothing about him.

Gillum presents more qualities and views that I'm interested in, so I will be voting for him.

DeSantis comes across as "Trump Lite", and I'm not interested.

Stop monkeying around with Thoreau

Then you really shouldnt assume that he intentionally used racially charged words.

That is where the conversation should take place--political differences, not phony and inflated charges of racism which are designed to end the conversation.

Is the civil war over yet and who won?

He rather leaves me no choice sir. He chose the awkward and loaded phrase, I did not.
