There's millions who already think our government is covering up contact from beings from another planet. That ET's have been visiting Earth for thousands of years. Whether they have or not, I suspect our government would do their darnest to keep it secret. The reason, we're not ready for it.

An alien species will not be hostile- it makes no sense. If someone has the technology to get to the Earth, there is literally nothing they would want to ‘take’ from us, other than potentially knowledge about our society.

They would view us as simply another species of ape. We would be closer to apes in intelligence than that of any being that could reach this planet. As far as what they would take, whatever resource it is that drew them to the planet.

The the initiation of force has not disappeared, nor has it been diminished. It has been made much more efficient, while remaining palatable to masses of ignorant sheep. This is not progress.

If you doubt it, look at the numbers who have died from democide; the percentage of people that have been imprisoned; the number of areas of your life that are affected by government and to what depth; or how much of your total earnings are stolen from you in all manner of taxes/fees/licenses/excises/registrations/etc.
