Less than a year is left before the UK exits the EU, which is scheduled for March 2019. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom finds itself on the edge of a political crisis. The country is talking about a possible resignation of the government and early elections. Indeed, there's every prerequisite for it. Theresa May's "soft" scenario of Brexit, in fact, fostered a government split-up. Not only did Labor Party members and Scottish nationalists take a poke at May in the Parliament, some of the Conservatives joined them as well. Recently, several key players in the government resigned in token of May's policy rejection. Boris Johnson, who served as Foreign Secretary of the country, was one of them. It is he who is considered the most likely candidate for the Prime Minister's office if May and her Cabinet resign.

The fact that Johnson may become the head of government is confirmed by the Spanish authorities who have got reports of an assassination attempt being prepared against Johnson by radical opponents of Brexit.

Dear Mr. Merino,

I have received your letter of July 30, 2018 concerning a possible attempt on the life of Boris Johnson prepared by radical opponents of Brexit so as to prevent Johnson's election as the UK Prime Minister.

I would first like to thank you and all members of the Home Affairs Committee of the Spanish Congress of Deputies for your cooperation, including the timely provision of that information. I fully share your view that it is necessary to inform the UK authorities about the possible attack against Mr. Johnson. We are continuously in contact with the UK Foreign Office and are actively cooperating with it, including on security issues. Fighting radical movements and terrorism is one of the key areas of Spain's policy. In my view, cooperation and exchange of information between all European powers is the only way to eradicate these sentiments and maintain peace and stability in Europe.

I can assure you that the information will be relayed through ministerial channels and conveyed directly to the Government of Theresa May as soon as possible. We hope that if the data you provide is valid, the UK authorities and law enforcement agencies will be able to ensure the security of Boris Johnson and identify the alleged perpetrators of the attack.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the purpose of the assassination attempt is to prevent Johnson from being elected to the post of the Prime Minister. To recap, the former Foreign Secretary stands for a tough divorce with the European Union. If now people who are still unsatisfied with the results of the referendum of 2016 have a hope for a soft break with the EU or even the complete cancellation of Brexit, there's no chance of any give-ups or compromises with Johnson as the PM. Indeed, the opportunities are really good for the ex-Foreign Secretary: Teresa May is rapidly losing credibility both in society and among the party members, while Johnson, who's already had bunch of supporters inside the party, has just gained more scores by his willful resignation.

Interestingly, Boris Johnson has got the sympathy of Donald Trump, who's been recently expressing dissatisfaction with May's policy as well. During one of his interviews, the US president said that Johnson had all necessary qualities to become a magnificent Prime Minister of the UK.

Mr. Johnson hasn't commented the information on the attempt upon his life yet.

Oh, how cute! A newb who uses Facebook as a source. A letter purporting to be from a Spanish government minister, and not a shred of evidence that any such threat has been made, conspiracy uncovered or, well anything. Come back to us with something that clearly couldn't have been fabricated by a seven-year-old and I promise I'll take your scare story seriously.

And only one man can stop them ... Bomb ... James Bomb!

(In before the thread gets sent to the CT section!)

Johnson was making news this week with anti-Islamic soundbites. The British press were camped on his lawn demanding he respond to the furore, and he came out wih a tray carrying mugs of tea to refuse. He met with Bannon a week before his race baiting. What a coincidence.

And his choice of ridicule target is purely coincidental to the fact that his likely main leadership rival* is... Sajid Javid. You'll never guess his religion.

Both are on 9/2 in the betting odds to replace May as Tory leader

Javid is not religious. His parents were Muslim, but as far as I can tell he appears to be an atheist and is married to a Christian.

Given that he is under investigation by his own party, and there has been one senior Tory MP, Dominic Grieve, who has publicly said he would leave the party if Johnson becomes PM, I think he's blown his chance of ever becoming PM. There are plenty in the Tory party who don't like him.

Do you think that the people Johnson's dog whistle was aimed at care one iota whether he's a practicing Muslim or not? They do not. He has a funny name and dark skin. That's the level Johnson was aiming at.

There are plenty in the Tory party outside of Westminster who adore him too. He'd have a tough fight to get his name on the ballot of the membership, but if he does that I reckon he's a strong favourite.

I have seen some ambitious “cherry” posts.......this one is right up there.

So Muslim is a race now?

So Muslim is a race now?
You can bet your butt that's how Johnson uses it.

Jews are incidentally not a race either but were used in the same fashion not all that long ago to get a large part of a nation aligned by giving it a "common enemy".

The latter two properties making things even worse and leading to suspect that he sports cloven hooves and a tail.

You might not have noticed the strange coincidence but Muslims in Britain, at least, tend to have brown skin. Yes it was racist.
He has form, talking about picanninnies and such. It's all done in an impeccable Oxbridge accent, so he gets a pass, whereas Yaxley Lennon's class gets locked up.

They're mostly Caucasian but, I didn't think you could be racist toward Whites?

Anyway, it sounds like they have taken over the country.

Not in Britain, but then you wouldn't know, since your ignorance is so encyclopedic.

Moderator's Warning:
Can we stick to the topic, which is, let me remind you, the alleged plot to assassinate Boris Johnson. Thank you.

Of course assassinating an Exiter would be the worst thing to due for a remainer to try to get Britain to stay. The backlash would be great an would ensure the UK leave the EU.

The best action would be to assassinate someone who is pushing to remain in the EU. Someone who is important but not vital. So a very well known backbencher would be ideal

That happened just before the referendum. A mad Brexiter murdered Labour MP Jo Cox. Didn't affect the result one bit.

This is not implausible in any sense, however it is a conspiracy theory. Just to note assasination attempts are planned worldwide against leaders of all countries, most never get past the planning phases before being caught, and some go the the execution phase just to be thwarted by govt and military.

But one thing to note leaks as such are nearly non existent, most assasination plans are mentioned after they are declassified ie long after the threat is gone, not before it happens. This put's a massive burden of proof on your side as no credible intel agency will let something like that leak if true, as such a leak would allow the perps to go back into hiding instead of being caught, which might lead to them trying again later down the road and being more cautious knowing intel is watching them maybe relying on more third party actors with plausible deniability.

No one is saying it's inconceivable, it's just that there's no evidence of this, other than an uncorroborated letter that could easily have been mocked up. Also notice, the poster started this one thread and then ran. That's another clue that this might not be, let's say totally kosher.
