PLUS The famous "The Frantic Caller" from Area 51. A call like no other!

I use to work nights for awhile when I lived in Las Vegas and other places, but regardless of where in the west you lived, it was hard not to land on Art Bell's station once in a while. It was hard to turn off regardless of your beliefs. He was an icon and and a part of America's nighttime radio experience. He had a way of bringing a smooth, cool credibility to the strangest things.

Adios, Art. Say hi to the boys on Planet X and tell them their Earth Colony is still doing fine, and we haven't blown our selves up yet! At least not yet!

He was awake when most of the country was asleep, cultivating a loyal following while sharing his fascination with the unexplained on his nighttime paranormal-themed show.

For the better part of two decades, longtime late-night radio personality Art Bell was his own producer, engineer and host of his show, “Coast to Coast AM.” He later launched his own satellite radio program from his Pahrump home after retiring from full-time hosting duties in 2003.

On the airwaves, Bell captivated listeners with his fascination for the unexplained, such as UFOs, alien abductions and crop circles. He died Friday at his home at the age of 72.

Back in the day, having a show on the radio like Art Bell was awesome. I can remember many late nights driving through the middle of nowhere while listening to these "spooky" calls from all over the country. There is nothing quite like rolling through pitch black Northwest Texas and hearing a ghost story portrayed as real.

Those were much more innocent times.
