I posted this thread in conspiracy theories, as I think it's unlikely to happen:

First, before I begin a few qualifiers. This thread is not a veiled anti-gun thread. Nor is it an attack on any political party. I request that people not try to derail\divert the thread by bringing up those topics. I am asking the following question because I genuinely want to understand the reasoning behind it, or perhaps learn about something I’ve overlooked.

Let’s say that one day, the U.S. government goes rogue and decides to start actively oppressing the populace. You’ve built a bunker and have stockpiled hundreds of firearms and ammo. You stand ready waiting for the soldiers to show up at your doorstep, but instead hear the sound drone as it passes overhead and launches a bunker buster missile, killing you and destroying all your weapons in an instant.

How do you defend yourself against a scenario where the arsenal at the governments disposal makes your stockpile of guns irrelevant?

Slaughter collaborators/facilitators in their front yards. Use a dartboard to pick where.

This will cause all the wives of all of them to make their lives a living hell.

And make them really nervous every time they go outside.

But that's just me.

The defense of an armed population is not in "bunkers," it is in numbers, anonymity, and guerilla tactics.

Will the government send a drone to bomb an entire crowd just to get one possible rebel? If so, it has just multiplied the number of enemies by adding all the victims, their families, and friends.

Will soldiers and police forces remain loyal when they see their own family and friends being targeted?

Can drones be everywhere when attack spring up, do damage, and then the perpetrators disappear into a crowd?

Yes, technology can favor Big Brother, but it can be used against Big Brother too, via hacking, viruses, etc.

It is simple to fight a war against other soldiers, much harder to fight one against one's own citizenry.

Just ignore them and build a better, effecient, more autonomous drone army. And learn how to control 4chan.

I don't know the break off point, but you used to be able to under pay your taxes by $5 state, and $5 federal. I honestly don't know what it is now, but if people started to do that, and IRS lowers the threshold, then IRS has to send out bills and penalties for chump change, it's going to have an effect on how manpower is handled. Also, always pay by check and have the total of tax owed not equal to the check amount. heh, heh,heh...

Then every magazine that has an insert to fill out for a subscription... send it to the agency of your choice, ditto with newspapers.

There are ways to fight back. Refuse auto deposit, refuse electronic signatures. Just be a Luddite.

The semi-serious answer is that the lead-up to your scenario would cause a rift in the government and the military that would divide and/or severely weaken their forces, while strengthening the resistance.

It's easy to imagine differently, but agents of the government and soldiers are people and citizens, just like anyone.

Asymmetrical Warfare......back by popular demand.

Sort of like what we do in the ME with similar results.

Wow, You guys have really thought about this. And just what do you have planned for those citizens who don't wish to participate in your little civil war? Lop their heads off on video for your facebook page?

Let me get this straight, only one guy in his bunker is standing up to said rogue government in this scenario?

I always thought it was funny that people didn't understand these concepts. You always see something like "but they have tanks and nuclear weapons", like people are going to try and storm a military base or something, or that the government would use nuclear weapons or other large missiles against the populace.

If it were to happen then tanks, aircraft, battleships, etc would all be useless against a rebellion hidden among the population. This isn't even counting the fact that they wouldn't bomb their own infrastructure.

The worst part is that should it ever reach that point it would effectively be the end of the USA. Countries like Russia and China would fund/supply the rebels to keep the fighting going as long as possible and weaken us to the point we would never be able to take back our position of dominance. The same tactics the US uses in countries around the world.

Play your cards right and win them over!

The internet makes it possible to comment on your exploits without getting caught. If they shut it down to silence you they'll piss off the masses.

Last time I check there are over 300 million of us and narrowing down a target for a drone isn't something that is easily done. Takes a lot of resources to find the target to begin with. We have a lot of people with guns, and that know how to use them very well, much better than those in Afghanistan and how is that working over 15 years later?

Much thought isn't required, it is common military strategy. These are simply the basics and could be expanded from there.

OT: I have about 20 drones, only 6 are brushless, only 3 use 5 inch props; but a 5 inch quad has RANGE and can carry alot... or move FAST:

I have three racers right now and two camera birds.

Just duct tape a knife on the bottom and run it into em at 70 MPH!

Right. So the American version of Syria. Yea!! Got nuthin' left to fight for but my AR.

Yes in the future thats exactly what it will be. In the bible it talks about thousands and thousands of "locusts with scorpion tails" that can take out whole villages just by paralyzing them without killing them. Those will be tons of stun gun drones that can get to any part of town in about 30-40 seconds.

OH dude you dont have a CHANCE at the upcomming drone army. Its actually going to be much scarier than atom bombs. Its going to be so effecient that it quickly evolves into arrest drones that capture enemies instead of killing.

Imagine 20,000 little softball sized drones that NEVER MISS, NEVER CRASH, and all fly in perfect unison while covering 100% of all terrain. Fully exploring towns in 2-3 minutes. All done automatically just by press the "UNPACK" button.

What the hell kind of lunacy are you peddling here? Damn. Sounds like you're floating an idea for a video game here, some kind of apocalyptic fantasy.

Oh yeah...I've totally thought about drones swarms being a scary thing but we're a long ways off from being at that point still.

I find the excuse that you are all brothers and sisters so there will be reluctance to fight a war to be weak. Considering that the scenario had some reality in your own past. The civil war faught between the north and south was brother against brother. Americans fighting americans.

You can be assured that if such a war came to america it will not be a few politicians against the population. It will be the population wrapped in a flag and singing the national anthem.

We already got the swarming technology. Swarm drones. All they need now is fine tuned targeting parameters. (and even then they dont necessarily need those if someone just puts them on "kill anything that moves" mode)

Easily in 20 years. Could have it in 1-5 years tho. AI and neural nets are already on a pretty insane level.
