this has a caveat i am a profoundly sick schizophrenic overwhelmed with audiovisual disturbances and paranoia. nonetheless my mind works critically and logically.

i'll put this straight. i had the thought to think more about the identity of the pilots in the video leaked by chelsea manning. i couldn't imagine any soldier who'd enrolled to give something laughing that callously at their actions slaying peaceful journalists, nor could i accept that's what war does to the people in the barracks. who thinks death is a fun game? i don't know much about conspiracies but i wondered if the pilots were from the leagues of haliburton or from another dynasty with vested interests squashing dissent about their blueprint for iraq? is that why leaks were so messianic?

Nope. The empathy-blunting affect that repeated exposure to violence can have on people is a well-recorded phenomenon. The military needs to learn to control for it better, but it's no surprise that this happens.

Certainly, a common and well-recorded affect of repeated trauma is a lot more likely than a conspiracy where the military is for some reason employing people with no actual training, when they have plenty of their own perfectly good enlistees that they could use instead.

I would suggest perhaps taking another look at how your illness may be impacting your thinking, and see what you can do to get yourself in a better state of mind. Paranoia tends to cause things like belief in conspiracies. And beyond that, it doesn't sound like this is very pleasant for you anyway.

i understand my psychological illness exaggerates my belief in delusions but it doesn't mean all my perceptions are faulty. interaction of a mind which perceives environmental threats with the speed and accuracy i have from a spectrum related illness means some of my conspiracies are probably accurate. but who knows?

The only conspiracy involved in that shooting was a conspiracy of silence. **** happens, and that's why things are classified and kept secret.

Manning got in trouble for exposing the secret.

But yeah, some guys get into slaughter. Yeah, that will teach those civilians to bring their kids to a gunfight. The comment reminds me of the way some gunship pilots talked back in 1970. If they can't stand the heat they get out of the kitchen.

That's like saying that if you gave thousands of monkeys typewriters, they'd eventually re-type Shakespeare because the sheer volume of monkeys involved makes it inevitable. Maybe, but rather than waiting centuries or millenia for that to happen, wouldn't it be a lot easier, more accurate, more effecient to just download an e-book instead?

Critical thinking and logic requires accurate information and data. "Feelings" tend to be counter-productive.

Regarding the attitudes of attack helicopter pilots, I have a certain amount of familiarity on the subject. During my time in Viet Nam, I got to know some such pilots very well. I've seen attitudes that run the gamut from disgust at their own actions (these people tend to find other military jobs, if they can, or resign as soon as they can) to outright joy at their deathly accomplishments (these people tend to be identified by their command as, while very capable, ultimately dangerous to the mission and moved out of their job as soon as is feasible). The common mid-point was probably an attitude of "just doing my job". To be sure, my experience is dated, but human nature doesn't change much. I admit I'm not certain of current military protocols, though I surmise the decades since Viet Nam has taught the military a thing or two.

So...whatever caused that attack on "peaceful journalists", I seriously doubt it had anything to do with some "vested interests squashing dissent...etc". It was more likely misidentification and/or misinformation.

I suggest you try to get a better handle on your paranoia.

One of the horrible things about war is you often have to be able to dehumanize the enemy if you want to keep your sanity. If you start thinking about how the people you are killing are human beings with children and parents who love them, it will break you.

Some people do better at compartmentalizing that better than others. Those who fail often suffer PTSD from their actions once they return to normal society.
