Déjà vu – Bush/August 2001 – Trump/August 2017 – What are the odds?

His idea was that you somehow oopsed your way into writing conspiracy theorist garbage into your OP. I'm convinced you did it on purpose, and that you're dodging your own implied points now that it's clear nobody's on your side in this.

SORRY, my bad; I meant post #17.

"The problem was how you structured your post then, because clearly everyone here thought you were implying something else. If you were a little more specific with your OP, we wouldn't be having this problem, but it seems as though what many thought you were implying was, "Bush goes on long vacation, 9/11 happens. Trump goes on long vacation..."

See how many people can come to this conclusion? Words matter."

this was previously discussed :)

I still don't think you did it on accident. Ergo, not the same point.

17 days without a Trump tweet? :lamo :lamo :lamo

actually, I believe Trump could live & breathe just fine without a cell phone, period

of course, if that scenario ever came to pass Trump would surly require some rehab time for his Twitter withdrawals but hey

a Trump presidency void of any further Tweets would be a blessing to America ............ Trump could then concentrate on doing his job, for once ..........

A little over six months after George W. Bush was inaugurated in January, 2001 there was an announcement in early August, 2001 that Bush would travel to Crawford, Texas for a multi week ‘working vacation.’ Shortly afterwards 9/11 became a reality. The rest is history.

I wonder what awaits Trump & America shortly after Trump’s ‘working vacation?’

What are the odds of something just as big as, or bigger than 9/11; any wagers? Sweet 16?
Bush Juniors vacation was only one of 88 vacations that he took as president. Obama took 28 and nothing happened.
This is Trump's 8th vacation so far. And I am sure that there will be more. Many other presidents took vacations and nothing happened.

Since we are talking about Trump, it is more likely that new damning information will come out rather than some major attack of some sort.

At any rate it is only a coincidence. Even if something major did happen it wouldnt mean anything other than chance. There is always a chance that something major could happen at any given moment, presidential vacations barely factor into that chance.

He would probably need more vacations .

One thing I'd like to contribute to this topic that is more of my personal general perception: why do people look at POTUS' taking vacation time as a negative? There always seems to be some tone of negativity when people discuss a POTUS taking some off-time.

I can sort of understand pointing out the hypocrisy of cons and Trump himself having criticized the hell out of Obama for taking "too much time off" (when Trump has taken far more weekends off to golf), but I would surely hope the leader of the free world would take some leisure time just to keep their sanity.

It's not that the president is taking a vacation it's how many they take. You would think being President is so important that you could devote 4 years to it.

I would think Trump would have stayed in DC and made a huge amount of recess appointments to get around the Congress gridlock.

member calamity post #21 pertains to a resignation; this is the ONLY real reply to the thread so far

Trump resigning would likely involve no casualties, i.e. no injuries, nor deaths

amazing, isn't it?

Trump resigning wouldn't apply to your bet.

Yes, but they should be given a good amount of leisure time, in my opinion, given the stresses and anxiety that comes with the job. Of course, everything in moderation. I don't agree with a POTUS taking off-time too often, nor too little.

We since the Congress intentionally didn't go into recess so Trump couldn't do that, he would cause quite a cluster**** if he tried it

Congress effectively blocked his ability to do that.

my questions were:

if Trump resigned I believe that would have as much impact, or more impact than 9/11
Just imagine the unbelief, not only here in the US but around the globe

it could have huge implications for markets, governments, militaries, it could create enormous chaos, or it could create world wide relief .......
any of that could be huge .......

are you saying that W. took 60 more vacations than Obama?

no wonder the world economy crashed in 2008 .............

it has been announced that Trump will be taking a 17 day vacation this month so, that is not a theory, nor is it a conspiracy ..............

you could however offer something (positive) to the thread, offers other than attempts at stirring a pot ............

So, you think he will not be working during those long days? I doubt he can withdraw from the dayly drudgery.

RICE: I remember very well that the president was aware that there were issues inside the United States. He talked to people about this. But I don't remember the al Qaeda cells as being something that we were told we needed to do something about.

BEN-VENISTE: Isn't it a fact, Dr. Rice, that the August 6 PDB warned against possible attacks in this country? And I ask you whether you recall the title of that PDB?

RICE: I believe the title was, "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States."

No one told the Republican "leadership" what to do about al Qaeda cells in the US.

Wonder what Trumps excuse is gonna be, that he didn't trust the intelligence or that no one told him that he needed to do something about it.

I think you're onto something. From your first link:

President Bush's father was criticized in 1990 for remaining on vacation in Kennebunkport while dealing with the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq.

Does the shadow government make Republicans go away before carrying out their nefarious plots?
