Issues Eliminated from Mainstream Discussions

I contend that ALL modern news media has inherent bias. It's just a matter of degree. All news outlets today are controlled by six mega-corporations:


Ironically, the one outlet with the least bias today is Russia Today (RT, RT.com). Of course American corporate media does all they can to discredit RT, calling them the biased ones. Yet they cover issues most media exclude from their agenda entirely. Won't go into detail on those issues here, but rather bring up a few that even they avoid.

Fukushima, vaccinations, and geoengineering. All topics that pose grave threats to humanity, all completely ignored by the news, period.

In addition to the ocean dying, there are now 200 species going extinct every single day, this is scientific fact. How many more years can go by before they're all gone? Normalcy bias and denial, leading to our ultimate demise as a species? Or valiant confrontation of the facts, which by coming together we will overcome?

It's not who you know, or even who you blow, it's what they want you to think.

And keeping certain subjects suppressed is a useful tool for the spin and propaganda.

It's time for some major anti trust work if Trump ins a second term.

Anyone who thinks vaccines put mercury into your blood has no business discussing the medical effects of vaccinations. Each and every antivaxxer whining about mercury has absolutely no issue with eating large quantities of two chemicals: one is used to sterilize swimming pools and the other reacts explosively on contact with water.

The traditional function of corporate-owned, mainstream media is not to deliver news or to educate viewers/readers. The function is to control the terms of public perception and by extension public debate. This is done,as Noam Chomsky demonstrated, to limit the possibility of organised dissent and to manufacture consent, making the body-politic compliant and marginalising dissenters. Mainstream media presented the establishment take on almost all topics of public interest and largely excluded the views of those who offered non-establishment ideas and interpretations. The concentration of mainstream media ownership into a tighter and tighter oligopoly has made that uniformity of focus on social control more acute but the real driver of the conformity is the media employees and editors who are selected and promoted for demonstrating right-thinking and adherence to the acceptable terms of debate. It's an insidious self-reinforcing micro-culture which drives mainstream media's homogenisation of viewpoint and message.

However, with the fragmentation of the means of mass communication over the last quarter century, mainstream media has lost its defacto control of mass communication which it used to have and the manufactured consent is splaying and unwinding. Independent media, social media and peer to peer communication is rapidly eroding the ability of the mainstream media to effectively control the terms of public debate. This worries the mainstream media owners and the state with which they cooperate and strongly influence. Consequently the mainstream media and the state are now working in tandem to suppress independent media viewpoints, reportage and sourcing, in an effort to stop dissenting points of view from gaining traction in the public policy debate at large. So far they have failed to do so effectively but now the gloves are coming off and bare-knuckle authoritarianism is being used more and more often to control the terms of debate. Criminalising certain types of reportage, legally attacking reporters' and journalists' protected sources, criminalising the linking of certain sources on the Internet, attempting to limit the definition of what journalism is and who can practice it and finally targeting independent journalists with threats and bodily harm (Modified US Military Law now allows for some independent journalists to be considered enemy combatants) are all the initial steps in this process. Secret gag orders and using the state's surveillance and legal apparatus to suppress journalism are increasing too. Mike Pompeo's speech about Wikileaks and anyone which cooperates with such whistleblower enablers is the most recent upping of the ante in this accelerating drive to control independent media voices in the public agora.

The value and the importance of a free press/media, which has room for independent and dissenting viewpoints, far out ways most of the arguments made about security. The public must pressure their governments, their regulatory authorities and their surveillance/law enforcement agencies to back off and to preserve both the letter and the spirit of the first amendment and especially press freedom for all journalists.

Rare is any major media going after big pharma, big food, big military, or big marketing. Those industries pay their bills. So, it makes sense that the media companies would be loathe to draw too much attention to how pharmaceutical companies were the root cause behind our current opium epidemic, or that food Inc is making us sick, or that the MIC is robbing us blind and that Madison Avenue is brainwashing us into not noticing any of the above.

Small example: multiple states are suing drug companies for bringing about the opium problem. It's not exactly front page news, and I have yet to see it discussed at length on any TV news show.

And what method of identifying, filtering, and disseminating these "facts" do you propose?

If a private solution, you get whatever you get right?
If you want protection from monopolies and too obvious of political influence, you're going to need to regulate private business.
If you want a lot more control, you'll need federally funded ones, like say, NPR/PBS.

But then, Republicans vehemently oppose anything except fully private. So talk to those hillbillies racists...we still allow them to roam free, primarily in the south/southeast of the nation.
