As a former conservative for many years and now a solid democrat who are you supporting for president 2020?

Welcome to this forum.

The "I used to be Republican" tactic doesn't really work here. Too many people try to pull that one. Just leave it at "I'm a sold Democrat." With your introduction my guess is your one of the Sanders Bros, correct?

As a former Democratic precinct election judge and packinghouse union steward, I am now solidly anti-democratic party. But I doesn't matter why you, I or anyone else says they "were." It only matters what they are now and will be when they vote.

Good morning Rick, good to meet you and welcome aboard! I've never been very political, this is the first political forum I've belonged to. I am an Independent and was also repulsed at how many republicans reacted to President Obama. Now, with what we have in the white house, I will be voting Democratic in the near future and likely always, I don't want to see our Democracy lost, and I want all of our people to be fairly represented regardless of race, sex or religion. The republican government being run like a cult just makes me sick, we've sunken to a new low.

Nice to meet you, Rick. I just jumped back on this forum myself after a long silence. I'm a BIG baseball fan so glad you pull for the Royals.
I have split ticket voted in the past. But not likely to support this current iteration of the GOP during my remaining days on planet earth.
I was raised as a country kid in rural Florida when the KKK still posted recruitment posters at my school bus stop.
My dad was a FDR Democrat. He and I watched the Party nominating conventions for Eisenhower and JFK.
I watched JFK, MLK and Robert Kennedy assassinated, our cities explode into fires and LBJ get civil rights legislation passed.
As crazy as American politics can get, I haven't experienced today's level of bitter division since folks were divided over the Vietnam War.
In 1972, when I graduated from college many Americans protected the President, while many including me saw Nixon as a criminal.
I resisted being drafted and shipped to Vietnam. A half century later, many of us see Trump as a criminal. Yet I have friends at my church
who are sure the Democrats are in league with The Deep State to depose the President via an illegal coup just because Clinton lost.
All the Russian hacks, Trump's bag men in prison, and eyewitnesses to Trump's request for a foreign government to help him smear his rival
and the GOP Senate is too afraid of Trump's wrath to lift a finger to hold him accountable. You cannot make this stuff up!

So, while I am moderate on fiscal policy and wary of screaming military hawks, I am a Never Trumper and I am sure that Trumpism
and the compliance of the GOP, are a present danger to our republic. I will act accordingly.

I am also OLD, but NOT so chill ha! I am happy to hear you have turned away from formal independence to help push back on the Nazi-like effort to change our government.
While I chose in the early 1970's to be a pacifist rather than help with the Vietnam War, today I am earnest about the need to protect our Constitution, the checks and balances between our
three-part system of government, and our Bill of Rights. All are currently under attack. Much as was the case in 1924, when the DNVP, the political precursor to Germany's Nazi Party
began to cozy up to Hitler's group. Let us pray good people across the United States stand up and firmly denounce Trump's pull toward a far-right despotic form of vicious capitalism.

HumblePi it is good to meet you. As we enter the real nominating season it feels akin to the film "The Patriot" when Mel Gibson decides to do whatever he can to fight back.
I am considering traveling to closely contested states in order to volunteer for the local Dem push to get out the vote. I was mightily depressed the morning I awoke at 3 am to find
Trump called the winner. I was no fan of Mrs. Clinton, but living in metro New York City all these years I knew Trump as a crude cheap-shot hustler. If I could only have warned the folks
who rolled the dice on him.

I have not made up my mind ,I honestly don't like anyone well enough to endorse them at this point. If I had to vote today I would vote for Bloomberg

No , Bernie is too far left I'll just leave it at that

Funny you should say that stuff about the reaction to Obama. When he was first elected I was a member of a site with a predominantly conservative political bent and tbh many outright supremacists. I too was shocked myself with that reaction. There were threads claiming people close to him believe he has the " mark of the beast " under his hair!!! The birth certificate etc etc shocking!

Anyways welcome to the forum

To be honest Rick I wasn't a Conservative but rather a leftist who thought he would learn more and develop more politically by engaging with people holding , often times , diametrically opposing opinions. It had it's pluses and its minuses but I don't regret the time spent learning.

The Obama stuff was shocking though !! I wonder what would have befell him had he really meant change when it was used as a slogan. Martin Luther King crossed the line for the US establishment with that poor peoples party stuff so he probably got off lightly.

Don't mean to take up your intro thread with this however so happy posting :)

Nice to meet you all. I'm a long time Republican and will stay republican as long as Republican Politicians are pro liberty, something I see Democrats have gone away from with Democratic Socialists (Hitler was this), Marxists and socialists. Republicans disagreed with Obama on policies, not on personality, whether he smoked, whether he couldn't speak with something than broken sentences. Policies like snuggling up to Putin with that open microphone statement to the Russian President. Policies like blaming white police officers who shot a black person and then finding out the real truth. Policies like running guns to Mexico so the cartels could use those guns provided by Obama and Holder to kill Americans. Policies like establishing huge regulations that drove corporations and jobs out of the U.S. Especially manufacturing jobs. Policies using the FBI and other agencies to spy on his political foe, Donald Trump. Other policies that hurt Americans and destroyed the Constitution.

I've read every word of that at least 50 times
Maybe more
Except the part about broken sentences I think you got a couple guys mixed up
