I'm new here.

I was part of a political discussion forum that started about 10 years ago. It was a pretty happening place for the first couple years. It had started as a companion to a fan site for the TV show LOST. Then there was a bunch of very nasty personal attacks, which drove away a substantial portion of the membership; after that there were several years of slow decline. The owner finally officially pulled the plug a little more than a year ago, but it hadn't been seeing any real traffic for a few years already.

Recently i decided to try to find a new internet politics site. DP showed up in searches. I lurked for probably about a week just to get a little bit of a feel for the place, then registered.

I lean to the left on most economic and social/cultural issues, though definitely not all. I'm actually registered as a Republican, but that's because of the local politics of where i live and not indicative of my political inclination regarding national issues.

While I of course don't know the circumstances of that I bolded in your quote above, I think it's fair to say the way to resolve problems of that nature is through fair and effective moderation.

Like yourself, I took my time and chose my political debate forum carefully. I picked this forum specifically on the strength of its moderation. I was not disappointed.

Catch you around.

Welcome!

Like any politics site, it can get a bit rough and tumble around here sometimes. But that's what makes it fun!

Look forward to chatting with you!:2wave:

Thanks, everyone, for the warm welcomes.

The site had moderators who did a great job with discussions about a TV show, but political discussion is a bit of a different animal. After the incident, there was a big shake-up and afterwards the moderation staffs for the two sites differed. But the damage was done and the site never truly recovered.

But yes, solid moderation was definitely what i was looking for, as well as a diverse and plentiful membership roll. Also vBulletin, but that's the easy part to find.

Worry not, Mr Mo. If the mods can't reign you in, I'll be sure to make you succumb to my superior debating skills!
