Greetings! I have come here to start my journey into having political discussion to grow my debating skills! I've used Facebook for a while, but it's turned into a ground of ad hominem attacks, safe havens for people to agree with each other. I am simply looking for a place to have civil discord but with thought provoking, fruitful discussion. Right now I am currently learning political science: The basic mechanics of government, congress, bureaucracy, how legislation is passed, bill of rights, amendments, American history, globalization, etc. according to a syllabus I found online at MIT website. I have six months before I go college and I figured why not prepare myself before I enter the college classroom so I'll be a bit ahead of my illiterate political colleagues! I ambition to endeavor towards a political career whether it be in the litigation system, executive jobs, Congress, whatever it may be, I mines well prepare myself with argumentative exercise. I hope this is a decent place!

Most of ideology so far leans towards conservative views, with some liberal ideology. My go sources of expertise: Sam Harris, Ben Shapiro, when it comes to news and political commentary. But when it comes to learning statistics, graphs, formulating my own opinions, it's just straight research and journaling!

I hope to have engaging discussion on here!

Welcome, you will see plenty of Ad Homs here but given the current political climate that is just going to be the norm. I haven't tried many other sites because this was one of the first sites I joined and there are tons of both good and knowledgeable people here to engage with.

Well, as one fellow Ben Shapiro fan to another, welcome Nascentborn. I've only been here a short while, but there are tons of very nice, intelligent folks here on all sides of the political aisle. If ad hominem attacks are leveled against you, my advice is keep calm, keep civil, but never be afraid to stand up for yourself and your beliefs (but that does not mean engaging in unwarranted character attacks against others). Look forward to seeing you on the boards. Cheers.

Well, I assume that considering this is a site dedicated towards the civil discussion political discord that I'd be a bit more fruitful than Facebook.
I don't mind personal attacking in the sense that it doesn't bother, because it's just a stranger typing over the internet across the world I'll probably never meet.
But when a platform is saturated with people just attacking, and agreeing with each other, it makes the platforms worthless.

Either way, I'd figure this would be a good board.

Thanks, I am definitely eager to absorb knowledge!

I just believe investing time into defending myself from ad hominem attacks on the internet is a waste of effort because it's a stranger you'll never encounter more than likely.
In a real world, different ball park.
