Hello all. I'm here after my old forum died a slow and painful death. Some of those people may already be here. If so, say hi.
I'm a right leaning libertarian. I frequently vote Republican if the libertarians put forth a loony but I really dislike the GOP. With that said, I really can't stand the Democrats.
Politics, to me, should be a topic by topic discussion and not a party by party discussion. If you agree with everything a party does or says, then you really need to start thinking for yourself just a little bit.
With that said, here is my stance on some hot topics:
Budget: We spend too much. The military is a big chunk but entitlements are a much bigger chunk. It all needs to be trimmed down. I would really rather see the FairTax system put in but I also know that'll never happen.
Abortion: I don't like it but I'm not going to define someone else's moral compass. If I were making the law, I would ban abortions after 20 weeks unless there was a threat to the mother's life.
Guns: I own guns. I don't believe that guns are the root cause of anyone's actions.
Mass Shootings: If anyone is primarily to blame for the rash of mass shootings, it is the media and the link between media and copycat shootings has been well defined and ignored. Idiots will find a way, but we don't need to give them ideas.
Global warming: Climate change exists but I don't believe that humans are causing global warming. I also don't believe that we shouldn't do anything about pollution nor should we give 3rd world countries a pass just because they are poor.
Illegal immigration: We have laws. Enforce those laws or change them. I have a pretty lengthy plan for illegal immigration but I won't go into that here.
Welfare: We should have a safety net but it shouldn't last forever. There should be a plan required and followed that will get people off of public assistance. Not everyone will follow that plan and there should be consequences for those people.
Police shooting: Most are justified, many are not.
Race Relations: I believe that all people should be treated the same. If anyone is racist, it should be called out and not excused for any reason. With that said, not everything done or said by a white person is because they are racist.
There you go, flame away. I have thick skin. Please back up your statements with facts and references. I learn and change my views as I learn new information. However, I've been around the block a few times so it doesn't happen too much any more.
