Hello all,

I came to DP in order to find an outlet for the general frustrations I cannot help but feel as I watch my nation experience this modern brush with fascism.

Titles are reductive, and do little to paint an accurate picture of deeply nuanced political philosophies. I would hazard a guess to say most would agree, no matter their political leanings, that the titles "left" and "right" or "liberal" and "conservative" are not representative of their views, and the terms contribute to easy stereotyping and the disregard of valuable opinions and thoughts.

But if I were forced to describe my political philosophies, I would say I am an incrementalist, libertarian socialist. Ideally, the economic system would be dismantled and reestablished with worker ownership of the businesses where they work. However, I hope such a circumstance can be achieved through non-violent and democratic means. I recognize that such a change should not come rapidly, but through years, if not decades of thoughtful and proactive reforms.

I am not a pacifist, but I do not tolerate aggression, especially by the state against citizens.

I have very little interest in debating facts, as they are facts and not subject to change according to opinion and rhetoric (despite what many seem to believe). I only care about discussing objective reality, the problems we face, and legitimate paths to solving them.

Welcome to the Forum BC. Feel some Love! Not everyone here plays nice. I treat this place like a cyber mosh pit cognizant to keep at least one foot firmly planted on the ground. IMO, we battle here more so than find solutions.

I suggest you take a few minutes to complete the Political Compass Test. May our Best Times lie ahead!

Thank you for the welcome!
I took the test earlier today and it placed me about where I expected in the lower left. Definitely a strong libertarian leftist!

I would have liked to see some questions which would address statism vs. anti-statism.

My utopian goal for future generations would be a free association of communities and worker-run industries providing goods and services for society in general. I hope societies can someday shift from centralized states to regions administered by democratic, technologically advanced communities which are interdependent.

Welcome to DP.

You'll fit right in with the liberals then.

That sounds like a compliment. You're stating they adhere to facts, rather than useful fictions which support their flawed viewpoint.

I tend not to agree very often with American liberals as they are predominately corporate apologists. I prefer traditional libertarian philosophy from the European school. Not American libertarians. They are willing slaves.

Not really, but whatever works for you.

Howdy Doody, BreadConqueror!!

I predict you will have a LOT of fun here. You are going to get grief from both liberals and conservatives...as well as support from both liberals and conservatives.

I'll keep my eye out for your comments and a bowl of popcorn handy.

Welcome to the dark side!
