Hello everyone!

With the way things are going right now in a way our country has never seen politically in just about every facet and every partisan group.

I've been having insatiable desires to just talk about these matters. Most people in my life aren't informed enough to have a meaningful, intelligent conversation or get easily upset by this stuff.

I haven't read any of the threads yet but I plan on doing that as soon as I post this one. I hope though, that this forum is what I've been looking for.

As for me, I'm very very objective and able to step outside of my own shoes as many people are not able to. This allows me to form pretty unique and solid viewpoints that are all founded in logic and facts.

As for where I stand on the spectrum; I think every human in the world should be able to look at all of their beliefs and everything they've seen and learned etc. and side they way they organically would side if it weren't for a party system. Logistically a party system makes sense. But from the standpoint that everyone from adolescence onwards are pushed and pulled towards one side or the other, whether it's family, friends, the media, college, etc.

To put it simply, I think a party system is just sets of prepackaged policy and moral standards among other things, that makes it easy for politicians to campaign because by default everyone either sides for the most part with them or is against them. And everyone on each side has similar views to each other and politicans know what makes people happy and what gets people worked up and what gets people to come out and vote.

I don't think there is realistically any alternative to a party system here in the U.S. But the reason for my tangent is that I have a diverse set of things I stand behind and believe in. But on the Republican-Democrat scale, you couldn't place me anywhere. I would say Libertarian values are the closest to mine. But I am not a Libertarian.

Anyways, I really look forward to learning, educating, and having fun through debate. I hope the members here are a good mix of moderates and left/right wingers.

I would also really appreciate it if some of the vets on this forum could send some links to their favorite topics and discussions.

I look forward to speaking with you all!

Have fun. It will fun to see someone standing "outside of his own shoes". ;)

The two party system is designed to promote compromise from the bottom up, as opposed to multiparty systems that promote compromise from the top down.

You will find a great many uninformed people here also

That is what I meant by saying I understand it logistically. I was talking about from the viewpoint of us who aren't trying to pass legislation. I also mentioned abolishing that system is not realistic and probably wouldn't turn out good. I was giving that explanation more to tell you all that I'm a weird mix of left and right and liberal and conservative.

I'm closest to libertarian as well. A pro-life (mild), green (market based), hawk libertarian. See my signature for the cornerstones of my view. Of course, all three of my major deviations from the libertarian party platform get me kicked out of the club. Thus, independent.

Welcome to DP! I joined last year October 26th. I love this Forum! I provided you a link to a thread with a Political Compass.

https://www.debatepolitics.com/general-political-discussion/123332-political-compass-thread.html

I grinned at reading your self-professed unique skill at stepping outside of your own shoes to reach viewpoints founded in logic and facts. You may find some of us challenging your sources and your conclusions. I hope you have a high threshold for diverse views, particularly those that disagree with yours.

At a certain point, maybe at 200 post.... maybe even sooner under certain circumstances .... the staff grants you access to region of the Forum known as the Basement, where you and others use wide open rules of engagement. I suggest, at least at first should you tread there, you tread with caution.

I assume your reach out to Vets derives from a Military background. I do not have a Military background... and from time to time my interactions with Vets has diverted from Civil Discourse to Cyber-Ugly. Picture a Cyber Mosh Pit. If you intend to stay vertical, you may always want to keep at least one foot firmly planted on the ground!

Feel Some Love!
