I came here because i have a really hectic but stale job, but love a good discussion of politics, life, love, and all that makes us human. My grammar and spelling are far from perfect, and those little wavy red lines help me quite a bit, so i ask your indulgence in this as i get better at it. It was hard to decide on an overall political leaning because i vary widely depending on the subject. I must say the only real alarming thing I have seen in this realm is how mean spirited some of the dialog and posts have gotten from some, as i browsed the topics. This means it might be wise to limit making posts as a matter of personal preservation. Still, I have enjoyed reading the threads and hope to enjoy and learn more through the years.

Welcome... :) Ya, it can get pretty salty here, but you'll get to know the usual suspects, and you can either ignore them, or have fun blowing them up (usually the most toxic are also simultaneously the easiest to refute), while having decent conversation with decent folks. At least, that's been my experience so far. Just don't let 'em get to ya... hehe...

And, given that you self identify as a conservative, and I a progressive, site rules seem to dictate this should be our last friendly exchange... ;) haha

Thank you for the advice, my friend. Contrary to what some think, you might find me very liberal on a few subjects. Regardless of the subject, you will still find me to always be polite, willing to listen to what you have to say, and to not "get personal". That being said, I look forward to many future polite, and friendly conversations with you and anyone else who would like to.

Noticing you were in Canada, I figured that. As a Progressive you will find i agree 100% with you on abortion, immigration, war, and some on Trump too.

As a Conservative i like to shoot guns, respect law and order, do not believe in the welfare state or nanny state, and still have respect for the office of the President.
In other words, I do not have dreams of blowing up the White House like Madonna does. The office still needs to be respected. Each and every occupant was my president, no matter who.

Welcome and bring your ammunition. It helps to be open minded in a forum like this, because lots of these individuals are very well informed and analytical and an equal number are ill informed but absolutely sure of themselves.

Welcome to DP. I find some of the mean-spirited comments very disheartening too, so I hope you'll help raise the civility bar around here!

Dave, when i find myself in a discussion with people like that, it tend to politely excuse myself. Give them their victory, and move on. After a certain point it can only go downhill, and usually does. Then the personal attacks start showering like an Oregon afternoon. That is why it is best to just walk away from that bar room brawl.

Thank you, nota bene. I am just a mostly peaceful guy that makes a living in the hospitality business. So I deal with the disgruntled all the time. I said SALES as my profession because the hotel business is based on return customers. So as long as I do not give away the farm, they usually get whatever they need to make them happy and bring them back.

Corporate says the only thing (and i agree 100%) is a customer personally abusing the staff. We don't need or what that type of customer ever.
