You're a newly qualified teacher and you've just seen an advert for a new teaching post at your local state school. You're eager to apply. But not so fast. Like one in five public schools in Scotland this is a Catholic school, so there are going to be some extra hurdles. You might think that all you need is your expertise and willingness to put pupils' interests first. But in fact those things might be a disadvantage as the archbishop of Glasgow, Philip Tartaglia, recently told teachers you should "prioritise the Catholic mission of your school over other considerations".

How the Catholic church has managed to co-opt the state school system in Scotland.

We have public Catholic schools in some provinces in Canada as well but they were created the original constitution. I htink they should be abolished but some people, mainly Conservatives, fight for them for obvious reasons.

Catholic church uses state funds to spread the church's power rather than educate children.

A Christian country wants to maintain its Christian culture? OH NOOO!!!!

The christian country does not want to maintain its' christian past. The nation in question says that there should be a separation of church and state when polled.

Wait, I just found this thread. You're telling me that there are public Catholic schools in Canada? I thought Canada had, if not the same, some sort of similar prohibition against that.

This is why I roll my eyes when people tell me how backward America is. There is backwardness everywhere, and that's a prime example of it.
