Star Wars stormtrooper taken down in brutal arrest while trying to promote struggling restaurant | 7NEWS.com.au

A restaurant employee in a “Star Wars” costume was detained in Canada on Sunday after 911 callers reported seeing someone in a Stormtrooper costume with a gun, police said.

The employee, who was carrying a plastic blaster, had been trying to drum up business for the struggling restaurant, which opened two months before Canadian authorities shuttered eat-in dining because of the coronavirus, the woman’s boss, Brad Whalen, told NBC News.

ZERO TOLERANCE, BABY!!! Keep Canada safe!!

Everybody knows that if you let even one stormtrooper get away with this crap you'll have a deathstar on your doorstep the next day.

****ing Canadians... what moron called in a gun when a person is wearing a Star Wars costume...

Even worse, the last time someone brought a rifle to a Canadian capital building the Parliamentary Sergeant At Arms shot and killed him. Damn country's just a police state.

You guys are supposed to be role models...

I saw this, and I'm quite baffled by the cops stupdity here. There's also the idiot that called it in to begin with. It should be quite obvious that this is a clearly not a threat, and a stormtrooper outfit is quite literally the last thing anyone would be wearing if they really wanted to go on a shooting rampage. I feel bad for the girl.

That was a SUBSTANTIALLY different scenario. Zehaf-Bibeau got into a violent altercation with security and had expressed intent to kill people. He wasn't wearing a stormtrooper costume and standing in front of a pizza joint trying to wrangle in customers.

Stupid.

Everyone knows Stormtroopers couldn't hit a dead deer tied to a pole from two feet away.

I saw nothing "brutal" in that clip. She was told to get on the ground, and she got on the ground. Now whether three police cars were required to secure a plastic gun is debatable, but the hyperbolic headline was dishonest and unnecessary.

I'd suggest that having three cops holding you at gunpoint, including the use of at least one "assault rifle", is pretty damned brutal. They even continued to cuff and search her AFTER they should have known that the gun was a toy. Those cops should be ashamed at the way they approached the situation.

Two cases of that happening in my history. One was four cops. Two with shotguns. The other was more than six Military Police at least three with M-16s.

Not brutal IMO.

Cooler heads prevailed and all went well.

Out of curiosity, in either of those circumstances was the reason for their response that you were standing around in a Halloween costume hawking pizza?

It was actually a reasonable response. In the US they’d just blow your brains out and ask questions about the “weapon” later.

Neither. One was a case of me being bad. The other simply wrong place, wrong time.

Right. If I'm being an idiot or hanging out with idiots and get approached like that then maybe the engagement isn't quite "brutal". However, if I'm some teenage chick trying to make a few bucks by hawking pizza in a fun and TOTALLY non-threatening way then the approach the cops used is absolutely "brutal".

I don't care if the originating call was "Armed individual threatening pedestrians" or something of the sort. When I roll up on that my first thought IS NOT "threat". There wasn't anyone around for the "armed" individual to be threatening! If, as a cop, you're still a little edgy about engaging then you do so from a stand-off position and assess the situation.

While this didn't end as tragically as the kid that got shot in the park a few years back it was still a really similar response to that incident.

It wasn't the least bit "reasonable".

Stormtrooper Lives Matter damnit!
