Scheer stepping down | Toronto Sun

Good riddance. Of course, this has waaay more to do with his prioritization of his family than it does with the allegations (even mentioned in the Sun *gasp!!*) that he was using CPC money to pay for his kids' education.

It turns out that so-called 'conservatives' in both countries are conservative in any sense of the definition.

Your Conservative party members step down due to allegations? LOL. It's like you're back in the 1980s.
Automatic leadership review? Ahahah. People get accused of sex with a minor here, and they get re-elected. What a country.

I do like that he's basically using community collected funds to pay for school..a typical conservative parasite. Oppose such measures for all citizens, but engage in it with delight for those at the top...

I know nothing much about Canada, I'm commenting as an outsider, obviously :p

Honestly, he's such an unlikable, pitiful person that I wouldn't have at all minded seeing him remain in power as a liability for the Conservatives.

Surrealistik:

There's a lot of back story here that makes this even more satisfying. Google Nanny Gate, for further chuckles...and that was in the books, unlike this thievery.

I'd much rather see them replace him with a conservative that isn't such a social conservative. There's a lot of opinion being put forth in the press that the conservatives need to abandon their social agenda, in favor of a more traditional approach. It would be great if they embraced this. At the end of the day, they must see that they're not going to get into power the way they are going. It would be really great to have a non-populist conservative party in Canada again. I'd might even vote for them. But not so long as they seem determined to be the Westboro fan club.

I agree with that. I would like a Conservative voting option. Scheer wasn’t the answer. I liked Joe Clark.

In the world series, the Astros decided to start a "bull pen" pitcher in game six hoping to make it to game 7 so they could put in a starter with a good chance of winning the series.

Trudeau was seen as unbeatable during the leadership convention, so they put Scheer in as a place-holder. He was a bull pen pitcher.

Pretty much, the best did not run because of the loser effect. The next leader would likely lose the next election and if they had chosen a top candidate he/she would have lost ruining their chance at election

I expect Mackay left politics when he did to have a clean record should he choose to run again. If he runs now, I expect he would win the next federal. But then have a large number of upset western conservatives (being a red tory )

Then they would have stood a better chance of winning.

Personally I would rather not see the Conservatives in power ever, and would vastly prefer that this despicable party hold onto its liabilities.

Despite being no fan of the Conservatives I feel they most definitely had the potential to win a minority at the least with a better leader, and threw their chance away with Scheer; Trudeau was by no means undefeatable. If Conservative 'luminaries' didn't run for fear of certain failure, they made a political miscalculation.
