Investigation: Lead in some Canadian water worse than Flint

MONTREAL (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have been unwittingly exposed to high levels of lead in their drinking water, with contamination in several cities consistently higher than they ever were in Flint, Michigan, according to an investigation that tested drinking water in hundreds of homes and reviewed thousands more previously undisclosed results.

Residents in some homes in Montreal, a cosmopolitan city an hour north of the U.S.-Canada border, and Regina, in the flat western prairies, are among those drinking and cooking with tap water with lead levels that exceed Canada’s federal guidelines. The investigation found some schools and day care centers had lead levels so high that researchers noted it could impact children’s health. Exacerbating the problem, many water providers aren’t testing at all.

I've changed my mind about moving to Canada in Trump wins re-election. New Zealand is looking a lot better except for the climate, earthquakes & volcanoes.

This is actually ****ing crazy, the more I've been reading today the more I simply cannot believe it, people should hang for this **** and the Federal Government should take immediate action, like, right this ****ing second, this is unacceptable.

Toronto underwent anti-corrosion treatments and went from something like a 50% exceedance rate with a standard of 5 ppb to one of the lowest in the country at 2.2% ( Is there lead in your tap water? Canada-wide investigation exposes dangerous levels of toxic metal | The Star ); this problem is eminently solvable. I agree, action should be taken immediately.

Poisoning thousands, knowingly and willingly vs. Killing one person.

Yes, I do think I agree

our local water quality report for my us city was 1.7 ppb. A lot of it comes down to your pipes though. My city replaced all water and sewer pipes to the hook up. It is up to the homeowner to deal with from there to spigots. I do have copper pipes, so it is possible that there is lead in the solder I guess.
