Record-breaking number of votes cast at Alberta election advance polls | Globalnews.ca

Looks like all the Bubbas and Jim Bobs in Alberta are butthurt that they're not allowed to destroy the environment with their pipelines, so they're going to try and leave Canada. I expect Trump to make them the 51st state to add another red state for his reelection.

Don't have a clue what you're talking about, have you. Try and leave Canada? Not allowed to build pipelines? You're just babbling nonsense.

Where does the article say anything about advance poll results?

It just says that there's a high voter turnout.

It's just a provincial election, and not likely to surprise anyone when the NDP lose. Anyone who seriously suggests there's much support for separation is an idiot and anyone who's against oil pipelines needs to Google 'Lac Megantic'.

It is Alberta, do you think there is any possibility of anyone other than the UCP winning?

Kenney was saying that half of Albertans want to leave Canada, no evidence but he did. Apparently the UCP has turned into an Albertan Parti Quebecois.

Alberta when times are good: Why do we have to support the rest of Canada?
Alberta when things are going bad entirely for reasons of their own creation: Why doesn't the rest of the country support us?

Alberta is reaping what it has sown.

Are you smoking some of Jr.'s prime weed?

How the **** is sending billions of dollars of transfer payments to your province "reaping what we have sown"?

Typical Quebec BS.

Alberta never complained once when it was receiving equalization. It is not the fault of the rest of Canada your tax policy is inefficient.

First time I heard the phrase 'have-not province' it was Albertans making their case for equalization payments. When they started to rake in the revenues of the oil boom-times and Trudeau 1.0 said Canada needs a National Energy Policy so maritimers who heat with oil didn't have to pay world-market prices half the bumpers in Alberta had stickers that said, "Let them freeze in the dark!"
But any talk of separatism in Alberta is beyond ridiculous and Albertans know it.

Know where that's quoted from?

Your ignorance is mind bending.

Alberta has been a net contributor since the 1950's. Quebec has received BILLIONS from Alberta, so guess what you can do with your posts AND your province.

And do you know why that is?

Yes, it's because Alberta is a de facto colony of Ontario and Quebec.

It comes down to tax bases, mainly due to demographics (low incomes, lots of retirees, low productivity etc.) Quebec's tax base is not that good at generating tax revenue even with above average tax rates, it is not something simple policy changes can fix, it is an issue that would take generations to fix and cooperation with all levels of government. The Liberals were trying to start fix it but then the CAQ came to power. Equalization makes up for that fundamentally poor tax base.

Alberta is basically the exact opposite, it has a really good young and high income tax base but refuses to actually collect that potential tax revenue. Equalization would not have much of an impact if Alberta actually taxed at a rate similar to that of the rest of Canada. Alberta used to be like Quebec but then it discovered lots of oil. Equalization equalizes revenues so that minimum standards can be achieved in all provinces. Instead of complaining about equalization and other provinces maybe you should actually utilize your tax base as well as try to encourage change in other provinces without antagonizing them.

Even Quebec was never antagonistic or even flat out aggressive and insulting towards other provinces as Alberta is now, Quebec always just wanted to do its own thing and be recognized as such but never enforce its will on the rest. Why would Quebec or BC want to help Alberta?

We don't want you to help us. We want you to get out of the ****ing way.

Let us do what we do by letting us get our oil to market. And then you can sit back and keep sucking on the teat like you've been doing. Get it?

This, folks, is a prime example of why the majority of Canadians would have been happy to see Quebec split from the country.

It portrays the arrogance of the user class - Quebec has siphoned hundreds of $billions from the rest of Canada over the decades and has always been concerned about their own self interest, the rest of the country be damned. The only reason they are tolerated is because politicians pander to them because of the large number of federal seats the province holds. The majority of Canadians love their country and want to see all parts of their country prosper because we all share in that prosperity. Quebecers, on the other hand, only care about their own prosperity, whether they earn it or they glom it off the hard work and enterprise of the rest of Canada. This is perfectly found in your comment "why would Quebec want to help Alberta"? Marie Antoinette would love your level of empathy.

Why would we ever do that? All you do is antagonize and insult the rest of Canada with the exception of your buddy Saskatchewan. You want to force the pipeline on other provinces without consulting them or their people in any way. Maybe try raising taxes and investing in alternative industries to oil, be less reliant on oil or actually cooperate with the other provinces.

And this is why I think you along with stevecanuck are among the worst Canadians I have had the displeasure of interacting with. You both do nothing but espouse lies and vitrol towards other Canadians.

Albertans love to complain about "The East". Its an old thing I think that started many decades ago when farmers complained they paid to send grain out east, only to buy it back as bread. Don't know if its completely true but I've heard enough farmers around Lethbridge say it. However the idea that Alberta would separate is dumb. I think soon the pipelines will be built, and all of Canada will reap rewards.

100% BS. Go away.

OOPS...

Allow me to introduce you to a real asshole then.

Quebec SHOULD be one of the jewels of Canada. Instead its a net cost. And why? Tell me...which city in Canada was the big financial center in the 50's and 60's? Even the 70's still? Ya...that would be Montreal. What happened? Rene Levesque. The Quebec Separatists...and their language laws.

Ya got what y'all paid for.

A bumper sticker. Big deal, eh?

Did I get it right about the transfer payments or not?

Get what right? After generations of drawing equalization payments like welfare bums Alberta suddenly realizes they had the intelligence and foresight to hide oil under those dirt-poor farms and tar-paper shacks and now resents having to contribute to the rest of the country?
Here's another bumper sticker for you. When the oil boom fell flat there were hundreds of Albertans out here (B.C.) picking up whatever work they could and I saw a sticker that said, "Please God, let there be another oil boom. I promise not to piss it all away this time!" Or maybe you prefer outhouse grafitti. When I worked up on the Tumbler Ridge project Alberta was going through yet another bust (funny how that happens about once a decade to a single-resource economy) and Albertans were living in tents while they built the townsite. In a porta-potty I saw written on the wall, "How to get back to Alberta- In the morning walk toward the sun. When the sun is overhead, have lunch. In the evening walk away from the sun. Repeat until the land is really flat."
Point is, it's coming around again. Always is. You'll be looking around Canada for work.

I was just too damned mad to bother with a reasoned response such as this. Well done and thanks for taking the time (even though you're never going to get through to him).
