UCLA territory. Fun place but not really Brentwood, at least according to Brentwood people.
But it's okay, they get funny/snobby like that. You see, Brentwood is "West of the 405" and there are actually people living here who "never go East of the 405". (extreme nose tilt required to say that)
And Westwood Village is East of the 405, heavens to Betsy.

So they live in college town.
Westwood is very active, very crowded, very busy and very exciting.
I bet they're having a blast. It's difficult to NOT have a blast in Westwood, something is ALWAYS happening in Westwood.
Those crazy college kids.

I'm glad she's in a safe place. I always tell her when she goes off abroad like this, "Don't get in trouble! I don't want to have to go hunt down some asshole in a foreign country." Of course...I'm partially just making light of things...partially.

Westwood isn't Mayberry RFD or Pleasantville.
It's loud, noisy and crowded.
And there IS crime there. College students do report a few sexual assaults every now and then, there are robberies.
But it's definitely not a hell hole at all by any stretch. Westwood is an affluent part of town.
But of course because of the affluence, the opportunity for crime does exist.
Fortunately UCLA Campus Police have VERY WIDE jurisdiction and flexibility and LAPD also maintains a good presence there because UCLA can't afford for them both NOT to do so.

But for young people who keep their eyes open, Westwood is very exciting and fun, and it is possible to feel safe there.
But it is very much a big city.
Here is what a Westwood resident sees every time they wind up on Wilshire Blvd heading back to the villages:

They're also on the border of what is affectionately known as "Tehrangeles"...little Tehran, the Persian part of Los Angeles.
There is a very very strong and well heeled Persian diaspora in the LA area and much of it is concentrated in the Tehrangeles enclave on Wilshire.

Pretty much all of them are fluent in English and very well educated, and well to do.
And they love the Western life and all its distinctly American values. The Persians have done pretty well for themselves in L.A.
If they don't live in Tehrangeles, they might live in Beverly Hills.

She has to go for a 1 week assignment in Miami soon.
Know anything about there?

Last time I was in Miami I was working on a B-grade movie seen on late night Cinemax (aka "Skin-E-Max") back in 1990.
I heard Miami is slowly sinking. Star Island is pretty amazing.

And there's always Fort Liquordale - - err, Lauderdale.

The whole place is humid as **** all.
I don't know how human beings survive that swampy feeling all day long.

But hey, I thought all you Canadians were all about "Flor-i-dia"?

I heard all the folks in "Canay-dia" loved it down there.

Never been there. Sounds like I would hate the weather.
