Justin Trudeau's government hit with another cabinet minister resignation as corruption row intensifies

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's cabinet has been hit by another resignation of a cabinet member as his team is embroiled in allegations of pressuring the country’s top law official not to pursue a criminal investigation against a powerful engineering company accused of bribery.

Treasury Board president Jane Philpott said Monday that it is “untenable” for her to remain in the cabinet amid the scandal and said she can no longer defend the government, becoming the second minister to resign in the wake of the controversy.

The resignation came after former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould, who resigned last month, testified last week that Trudeau and senior members of his government attempted to pressure her into not taking action against a major Canadian engineering company in a case involving allegations of corruption in Libya.
I'd say Trudeau has some splaining to do.

What the hell is going on up there?

What the hell is going on up there?

A company that employs a lot of people in an important province for votes got into legal hot water that may have caused them to go out of business, eliminating all those jobs.

Our PM, and team, wanted to avoid that, so they used inappropriate means to pressure the Attorney General to let the company off lightly - not necessarily illegal, but highly unethical.

The AG told on them. It was quite devastating.

Canadian politics exploded, and a lot of Trudeau supporters (myself included) have a lot of egg on our faces, after believing this guy would be different. Those of us who believe in accountability over partisanship want this investigated without delay. Others want to downplay and ignore.

Basically, it's a kerfuffle.

I support Andrew Scheer. Trudeau should walk away and just resign.

lol...Bucky. Even a lot of Canadian conservatives don't support Andrew Scheer. Do you actually know what you're talking about, or are you just taking the easiest default conservative option, after doing a fast Google search to find out who the leader of the CPC is?

True story: Trudeau was the first time I ever voted against the Conservative party in Canada. They used to be a lot better...now they're just a bunch of American "alt-right" knock offs. I'd love to see a solid Progressive Conservative (that's what they used to call themselves before they adopted populism and social conservatism) party in Canada again. Unfortunately what we have now is garbage - and a lot of conservatives will tell you the same - they don't feel as good as they used to voting for their party. It's actually pretty sad.

Actually, I see Scheer as the "progressive" Conservative that you talk about. That's why I'm not "too happy" with him.
But, I'd choose him over Trudeau, anytime - hands down.

The Liberals are a bunch of "alt-left" knock-offs. And, they're not good at it, either.

It is most interesting that a scandal like this threatens to bring down the Canadian government while scandals many times worse here in the USA barely gets noticed anymore.

With only 3 that had unimpeachable principles and integrity to stand up the way they did - we might be headed that way, too.

1) There's no such thing as the "alt-left". The "alt-right" was a self given name, while the "alt-left" was a slur picked by the "alt-right", once they realized their branding failed.

2) Scheer is not progressive...which leads me to be terrified of what you would consider "conservative enough" - but also kind of interested, if you want to elaborate. :)

3) As bad as the Liberals look at the moment, I would hardly classify them as "fringe". And I think the NDP are currently the only Canadian party NOT carrying around the baggage of past or ongoing scandals at this point...seeing as we're both over our chosen party leader, should we vote for them, my friend? ;)

If there's an "alt-right," of course there's also an "alt-left."

Nope, sorry...those guys can define themselves, that's up to them, but there's nothing suggesting we need to accept their attempts to drag us down to their level. We'll pick our own branding, thanks...

Also, my friend, you pick the strangest things to respond to - out of my whole message, this is what you choose to address? lol... You're lucky I love you.

It's not about "dragging," my dearest Nate. There is such a thing as "alt-left."

Urban Dictionary: Alt-Left

"Alt-left," is a leftist extremism which is at the opposite end of alt-right.

The year that Trudeau got elected, the Conservatives used the slogan, "He's just not ready".

They were right. That's what's happening.

I don't think it's a question of readiness; it's a question of ethics and principle. Trudeau pretty much has neither when it comes to championing the interests of himself, the Liberal party and its biggest donors.

I hope he does it over his shoulder as he's walking away.
I've always voted Liberal if I voted. I nearly sat the last election out, being not sure about Trudeau 2.0 but the Conservative Party attack ads pissed me off enough to get me ff the couch. Only way I'd ever vote in the next one though is if I lived in Vancouver-Granville, Jody Wilson-Raybould's riding.
Trudeau needs to resign before his party removes him.

I mean, the Finance Minister said it was 'appropriate' for people from his ministry to talk to people in Justice about jobs in Quebec. Where do those arrogant bastards get off, trying to influence the law like that? Now another member of Cabinet has resigned her Cabinet seat but not left the Liberal Party. I bet that means there's a movement afoot to get rid of Trudeau and they want to still be around after he's gone.

Tosca... You're quoting the Urban Dictionary.

I looked up Nate in the Urban Dictionary, and here's what I found as the "top definition::

Nate has beautiful hair, and eyes, and body in general. He's smooth with the Ladies, and has sexilicious feet. Nate lakes to flip off people a lot, and to step on lilys. Nate has nice fingers, and knows 18 digits of pi. Nate is truly a God.

Person #1: Wow! Look, I think that kids name is Nate!
Person #2: don't look him in the eye, I heard he turns you to ash!"

Girl #1: "Is that a Nate? I call dibs!"
Girl #2: "No! That's no fair!"

I couldn't view that site from my work, as it's blocked by our firewall, so I typed that out by hand from my phone, just to give you a point of reference.

Now...shall we continue discussing the intellectual relevance and trustworthiness of the "Urban Dictionary", or you just wanna take my word for it that you're wrong. ;)

We don't have to quote the Urban Dictionary.

There is an opposite thing such as left and right, good and bad, etc...
Therefore, logically - if there is such an extremism called "alt-right, there would also be such an extremism called "alt-left."
The urban dictionary provided an example of it.

Here's to make it simpler:

Like, if we have something described as "very good," there is also something described as "very bad."

:lamo Dang it, Tos, there is no such thing as the Alt-Left. It's a slur. No one on the left ever called themselves the "Alt-Left". In direct contrast, "Alt-Right" is a self given terms.

Example: McDonalds can call themselves McDonalds, but we can't change the name officially to McDump, even though we refer to it when talking about how bad the food is.

So, call it the Alt-Left, but in doing so you are deliberately insulting the Left...and I thought we were buds! ;) If I start calling the Alt-Right the...I dunno, what's a derogatory spin off … the Arse Rice? lol... Then you can call me out.

Now tell me I'm right...unless you think it'll kill you, in which case don't, I loves ya too much. :p
