Trudeau is in serious political trouble

Yeah, America's share went up from 3.25% to 3.6%. About what Obama got in the TTP negotiation, that Trump dumped. If you consider an increase of 0.35% to be 'opening up the market, well, then bless you for being easily pleased.

The numbers are the same, no matter who says they like or don't like them. The US quota went feom 3.25% to 3.6% and the tariffs of 200% to 300% (that so incensed Trump) stayed in place.
A lot of the disatisfaction in Canada comes because so many of us were against making any concessions at all. So many of us thought the whole thing should be scrapped and we'd just go back to the open market that existed before Reagan and Mulroney made the first Canada-US Free Trade agreement.
And then there was the conflict resolutuon process that Trump was so peed off about. It stayed. The fact is, the whole process was an enormous waste of everyone's time. Nothing was accomplished by either side, unless you want to count the steel and aluminum tariffs that Trump put on a trade partner while there was an agreement in place, citing a bogus 'national security' concern.
Sorry, one thing was accomplished- the world confirmed that an agreement with America isn't worth the paper it's written on.

As you wish. The issue is clearly more important to you than it is to me.

Oh yeah, ask any american whether they want to pay extra for Canadian dairy, or just buy the cheap US made stuff. Guaranteed, most will just want to pay the lower price.

Well, considering the huge government subsidy of US dairy farmers, Americans pay for American dairy products whether they buy them or not.

From what I have seen in the Canadian press the tape may have actually backfired for Wilson-Raybould, as well as the fact the Liberals are recovering in the polls to an essential tie with the Conservatives again. The press seems to be turning against Wilson-Raybould now.

I'll take your word for it.

I think it is because the whole scandal is not turning out to be the massive conspiracy theory and reveal Wilson-Raybould, Philpott, and the media was hoping it would be.

That was a weird one...the gas station near where I work stayed the same, and the one on the way home that I usually fill up at went down.

I'm surprised you're dropping Daily Caller articles...I know we disagree on a fair bit, but didn't figure you for one of those posters...

Any Trump-hating Liberal supporter seen this coming?

lol...oh Tos. You should keep up your conservative smugness...if there's one thing Canadian's love, it's other Canadians acting like Americans... ;)

Honestly, I think it's great he's getting hammered in the polls. It's the appropriate reaction to all this drama. But let's see how they look when the summer hits, and everyone is in a forgiving mood. You know as well as I do that a winter Canadian and a summer Canadian is two different people. Last time around it looked like the NDP were going to win at this point before the 2015 election.

Honestly, I don't care who wins, so long as it's a minority government. Our parties need to learn to work together again...this drama has gone on long enough.

Nah, but getting your pants yanked down with incorrect information has gotta suck... :)

Could be that the gas stations increased their prices a few days before, to make a few bucks, but the apocalypse never came.

And when it does come, the vast majority will be given back in the form of tax returns... I can't say as I understand it all, to be honest...but it seems to be a net 0 kind of thing, so … other things to get excited about, I guess.

Sorry, but the news coverage suggests your experience is an outlier.

I dunno…I pass a lot of gas stations on my hour commute, and I haven't seen anything outrageous, significant enough to point to and say "Well, holy ****, there's the carbon tax". As I said, maybe they cranked the prices up ahead of time to make a couple extra bucks...but it honestly hasn't been all that noticeable, prices were already on their way up. A four cent increase, which is the max that people are going to see because of this carbon tax, is nothing, in terms of the fluctuations we see in gas prices over the course of a year.

Just keep an eye on context. I promise I'll update if things get out of control...but so far the impact is minimal. The noise you're hearing is due in part to the fact that it's an election year, and conservatives have no strategy in this country other than to say the sky is falling in every other direction, so you might as well pick them. The fact that Trudeau is unpopular right now means the rhetoric will swing in their favor. Be as careful with our media as you would yours, is all I'm saying. The only people I've heard complain about this this week have been conservatives, who complain about everything else the liberals do... ;) hehe...

Fair enough.

The article also seems to suggest that Ford won the election in a landslide because of his opposition to the carbon tax, which is not true, at all.

Why 'backfired'? Doesn't it cement the credence of her claims? Or does the public disapprove of her methods?

Minority governments circa the 21st Century are de facto hostage negotiations.

"Yes, I realize we only came in nth, n > 2, with < 15% of the popular vote, but fund our pet cause or *hammer cocks* the government gets it."

Give me a majority government any day. Even if it under P.M. Trudeau and the pain that entails.

Nah, then it just becomes about legacy dismantlement and partisanship.

I think it would be great for our government to learn to negotiate again.

Shows hypocrisy and really took away from the credibility of her statements.
