Maxime Bernier quits to launch new party, criticizes ‘morally corrupt’ Conservatives

It doesn't matter what you think that is how it is.

I don't think so.

The only thing different between them is that one operates provincially (provincial issues), whereas the other is federally. Its the same ideology.

Lol, Trudeau and Wynne were bro, too....you know.

I for one want to see a succession of Liberal governments, and according to the polls that is what Canadians want.

Sitting MPs are not going to risk switching over but Conservative members and staff have and will switch over.

I'd say that's the case for now.

Give NDP another luminary like Jack Layton, or a Corbyn or Bernie equivalent and I think their (the Liberal) appeal and inevitability would diminish quickly in this new political landscape, assuming Bernier's managed any kind of substantive split among the right; the Liberals can't rely on weak NDP leadership forever, and god help them if actual electoral reform ever gets subsequently passed in the form of some variant of PR.

Not true. Trudeau has and never had the support of 50%
Next while the East Coast is now Liberal, look back for the past 10-15 years
During the last election it looked like it would be either a Lib/Con minority
Harper went hard on the scare factor and Trudeau waltzed thru the door
As to Bernier, he will go nowhere without money. And that ain't happening

I don't think so.

In BC they are, The BC Liberal Party is closer to Conservative in many ways than to the Fed Liberals

The same can be said for Conservative parties - they look like Liberals!
That's what's Bernier and other conservatives are pining about - there's no true conservative party.
They're Progressive Conservatives - which stemmed from the Liberals.

The Progressive Conservative Party, similar to the Liberal Party, contained various shades of opinion, and its policies were generally determined by local issues and practical need rather than by ideology.

When I look at BC Liberal politicians I see Social Credit. Still.

SC -More Conservative than Liberal?

Ohyeah. Became that way. They started out being kind of fringe-left, with some whacky-do scheme to do away with money and everyone would work for 'social credit' but by the time they crashed and burned they were solidly far-right. All those Socred voters didn't disappear when the party died, they just hijacked the Liberal party as the best opposition to the NDP.

Basically what I thought, They, SC went down, in the late 70's or so and many moved to the Liberal Party

TO you what does a real Conservative party look like?

Almost same thing like Bernier's in major issues.
Free speech, open to dialogue about pro-life, no to carbon tax, dismantle supply management, tighter border control, well-vetted/thoroughly screened refugees, immigration with emphasis to merit and cultural/values compatibility with expectations of integration, etc..,

You know being pro-life will sink any party? Being pro-life is so unpopular and polarizing it is the death knell of a party even the UCP in Alberta is not that stupid. How exactly would you have tighter border control? Also with refugees how would you deal with them? All we are doing is abiding by the refugee treaty? How is immigration not already merit and integration based?

Irrelevant. You asked what to me is a real conservative party.

I merely answered your question......I'm not asking you to discuss it with me.

Quebec MP Maxime Bernier has announced the name of his new party: the People's Party of Canada.

Bernier unveiled his party's principles in Ottawa on Friday, vowing to run a full slate of 338 candidates in the 2019 election.

"For too long Canadian politics has been hijacked by interest groups, cartels, lobbies, international groups, corporate or union interests of politicians and bureaucrats in Ottawa who are disconnected from ordinary citizens," he said.

"We don't believe that government intervention is a solution for everything. Government should not intervene to solve each and every problem on the road to a utopian and unrealistic vision of society. "

According to this Globe and Mail article Maxime Bernier is going to found his own party.

I smell vote-splitting and party turmoil for Conservatives, especially in Alberta. This is great news for the Liberals and possibly the NDP.

I like Bernier. But this is bad news for Conservatism.
