CanZuk

Perhaps a better acronym would be advisable.

If that means more Vegemite and Marmite being shipped to North America, then I will oppose such a deal on human rights principles. Yuck! Of course we have Creton so we're just as dangerous as the Aussies and the Brits. This madness must be stopped!

Cheers.

A rather poor trade pact

Canada and Australia primarily are producers of raw materials, with both countries seeing the manufacturing sector being reduced drastically. New Zealand is in the same boat. Any FTA would typically see raw materials go to the US and manufactured goods from the US to the other three.

Canada and Australia really don't have much to offer each other other than to share expertise in mining. Anything manufactured in Australia is likely to have a competitive product cheaper from the US or China (same goes for Can products to Australia.

Australia would be better served with trade deals with South Korea and Japan as opposed to Canada and the US

Commonwealth Council (CC). Add India and security cooperation, too.

Maybe, maybe not
You have to do something if your best friend turns their back on you.
With the TPP, CETA, it should be covered.

Time will tell.

Makes me wonder, is there stuff in the states that we rest that people in other places think is weird. Fyi I live in Texas and I understand our cuisine is a bit different from say people in New York or Washington.

I don't know about Texas specifically but you Americans have Bovrite which is almost as bad as Marmite and Vegemite with the additional supplement of beef meat products in the mix.

The American fixation on peanut butter is one area which non-Americans marvel at. Root beer, Spruce beer and Birch beer are uniquely American beverages which outlanders either love or hate. Oh, and the microwaveable breakfast taco or burrito is an inexplicable American delight which befuddles the wider world.

This might be a good topic for the food thread but I think I have hijacked this thread enough with my anti-yeast extract polemic.

Cheers.

Lol, I have never even heard of that. Must be something they eat up north.

yeah I grew up eating sandwiches with peanut butter and grape jelly. It's not something you eat everyday but it is a staple. And yes I love root beer. It's at every soda dispenser.

Yes good point thanks for humoring me.

Meanwhile, the US has lost 60% of its career professionals at the state department.

No power in history has ever forfeited so much soft power so quickly, especially not with so little to show for it. The exclusion of the US is not a coincidence.

For sure.

The US economy and Military are still unmatched. But most of the major economies have nuclear capabilities - no one is going to go to war, or allow a conflict to escalate too far.
Unless, of course, a nutter gets their finger on the button.
So, as I see it, soft power is all that more important.
I really do not want to see a split between Canada and US - our border is how borders should be - peaceful. Except 1812 but that was hiccup.
I hope most of this is just posturing ....One must say it certainly is a unique administration.
