A Little Crooked House: Trudeau, Morneau, BMO & KPMG Inc

There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together in a little crooked house.

Canada’s Finance Minister Bill Morneau has recently reinvigorated his promise to crack down on tax evasion schemes, but how can we trust him when he is himself named in the Panama Papers? This issue, buried in the back-pages of last year’s CBC coverage, is not raised by any of the major media outlets in Canada in connection with Morneau’s current determination to “lay down the gauntlet” on tax loopholes.

In other countries like Iceland and Pakistan, and perhaps even Britain, government leaders have been forced to resign or subjected to criminal investigations as part of the fall-out of the Panama Papers

Now, if you “follow the money” a little further, you find that Morneau is not alone.

Not so fast, what about the fact that KPMG is named in the Panama Papers? So, it happens, is BMO Nesbitt Burns, part of the complex private banking system where Trudeau has parked his money! And what about the fact that KPMG is BMO’s auditor? And that BMO is the largest contributor to the Trudeau Foundation of the major Canadian Banks etc… and oh, and by the way, KPMG also happen to be the auditors for Morneau Shepell.

The plot thickens

Democracy Watch, has recently accused Trudeau of a conflict of interest by hiring KPMG executive John Herhalt to manage the Liberal Party’s finances.

Where's the outrage among the Liberal supporters?

That Canada has now become like a Banana Republic doesn't seem to bother those who still support Trudeau and his cronies.

Where is the love for Canada?

Not a fan of Trudeau or such actions, and I think he's more than a little too close with corporates (though the Tories are on average probably worse for that as the national party of the rich and their lead recipient of donations), but saying Canada has become a banana republic due to this is ridiculously overwrought and grasping.

Also I very much appreciate that the Star's editor covered Bill Morneau's scandal and goes on to blast him; it shows the publication's integrity despite its political lean. Lastly, BM should be replaced.

Well....the corruption has been going on for so long. The kind of censorship towards protesting issues that are close to Trudea's heart - like abortion and Islam - are the kind you see in some dictatorial countries that try to pass for democratic. And now we read something like this!

Trudeau and Morneau were both on TV today - trying to cause a distraction, more likely, from this new scandal about the villa - by announcing the tax cuts for small businesses.

What censorship of abortion and Islam protest? If you're referring to M-103 it doesn't do anything to meaningfully muzzle critique of Islam if that's what you're talking about; it's just a motion.

But yes, I don't doubt that they're trying to run damage control.

Why have that motion at all?
Why are we wasting taxpayers money? Aren't there enough pressing issues to be concerned about?

As for abortion -

That's not protesting the right to protest abortion; please avoid hyperbole as it distorts meaning and impedes communication.

Trudeau is playing politics and aiming for cheap and easy political points with his base (in terms of both M-103 and the ban); I don't think it's a meaningful move in practical terms because an anti-abortion candidate almost certainly would never succeed in the Liberal party anyways (and if they would, the thrust and trajectory of the party would have changed such that the ban would be repealed).

Let's check out the issues that makes this crooked little house.

Why won't Morneau put his fortune in a trust fund?

Others had voluntarily put theirs in a trust fund - like Justin Trudeau - without being told.

Oh my goodness.
Justin Trudeau couldn't asnwer a simple question, and instead went off to irrelevant stuffs.....it's just too painful to watch.
