Does it make sense to be a Canadian Trump supporter?

Does it make sense to be a Canadian Trump supporter? [/url]

It's actually more like.........ENVY!
I feel envious that the USA has someone like Trump for President!

Just the way he wears love and pride for his country, like a badge - I suppose, I'm outdated.

If any hockey player kneels as a protest during the anthem of OH CANADA.....I suppose, our PM will no doubt be issuing an apology for whatever made him kneel.

Typical liberal response. Just because it hasn't happened here doesn't mean it's not going to.

Why do you think that just because I support Trump would mean I care less for Canada?

I told you. Re-read my posts!

You might be surprised that those who support the likes of Trump - admiring him for putting his own country's interest ahead of others - are those who can be described as the true patriotic Canadians!
We want a PM who'd put Canadians' interest above all!

And those who support the likes of Trudeau, are those who are so willing to sell out Canada!

You keep on dodging my main questions and going to stuff that is not on topic, whether Trump has improved the US economy or not is the topic of this thread and Obama or Merkel is not the topic for this thread, quit deflecting.

Would you be fine with Trump trying to impose a one sided trade deal on Canada, that could harm the Canadian economy?

Do think its fine for the US to subsidize Boeing, if you think its wrong for Canada to subsidize Bombardier? Are you fine with Trump not playing by the rules he wants others to play by?

Try answering these questions, without trying to change the subject.

Frankly Trump has taken more trade swipes at Canada then Mexico, because Mexico is playing hardball while Canada is trying to be Mr. Nice Guy. Maybe Canada should take a harder line with Trump, because he seems to think our friendliness is weakness:

THen why don't you support Trudeau's efforts to stand up to Trump, to protect Canadian interests?

THen why don't you support Trudeau's efforts to stand up to Trump, to protect Canadian interests?

....because Trudeau isn't really protecting Canadian interest. See my rant above - the reasons why I don't like him.

All anti-Trump see is that Trudeau must stand up against Trump. They don't see that some of Trump's policies will also mean well for Canada (if we apply them here) - like cutting back on regulations so that companies can compete with foreign businesses.

From what I hear, Trudeau's putting some climate plans into the bargaining table. If true, why add that?

Trudeau is into selling out Canada - whether it be its values, or assets. To whom would you rather sell out Canada - USA or China? USA or Muslim Countries?

Actually, I'm hoping that Trump will help get rid of Trudeau.
When Canadians start feeling the hurt..... they're more likely to choose another PM. That's the best thing that could happen to Canada. We need someone competent.

I did answer your questions. You're simply ignoring the facts about Trudeau.

Okay, but as a Canadian Trump supporter are you okay with Boeing getting subsidized?

Here is the problem, Trump seems think trade rules apply to every country but the US and wants to put one sided deals in place, where Canada and Mexico have to completely open their markets, but Trump can impose tariffs on a whim, where Canadian and Mexican subsidies are bad, but American ones are fine.

If Trump tries to impose a one sided trade deal on Canada, would you still support him?

Trump is spoiling your gravy train, and making you pay the piper. Poor dears.

If you like Trump so much, move to the US, seriously, clearly you do not care about Canada. Trump wants to actively hurt Canadian exports to the US market, why should we sell out to anyone. We compete well with US companies, hell a lot of them move here for the lower tax rate. You seem to want Canada to stop being it's own middle power and just become a satellite state of the US. Trump is actually helping Trudeau because Canadians actually like it when he stands up to the US and not just bend over to the ludicrous demands of the US. Trump wants a one-sided deal for the US, US can do whatever it likes but Canada and Mexico cannot.

We need to start looking away form the US and start making more connections with the EU countries.

That is not how trade deals work. THe US doe snot get to do whatever it likes and we get nothing.

Well, Trump think you have been screwing us, and he plans to end that.

We haven't been screwing you we just been doing the same things but Trump doe snot understand that trade negotiations involve reciprocity. It is not the North American US Economic Domination treaty. Free trade is meaningless if it is only one way.

If you still support Trudeau, it's you who don't care about Canada at all.
You only care now about the NAFTA - because you know it'll hurt you. We'll all be affected.

Btw.....

What happened to the so-called "Charm Offensive?" I got a kick out of that as I watched the Libs preening on tv....they think that wasn't insulting - sending a so-called "charm offensive" to charm the pants off USA - like as if the US counterparts are a bunch of morons who'll fall for it - especially when the Libs gloated about it on national tv?

Negotiations belong to negotiators. Let's see what our negotiators can do.
Besides, like you say, Canada doesn't have to deal with the USA.

Well, since we don't have the entire treaty in front of us, and we don't know how it's been going, it'd difficult to say which way is true. But I see a lot of jobs leaving the country.

Trump is spoiling your gravy train, and making you pay the piper. Poor dears.

What gravy train? What are you talking about? How does NAFTA favor the US over Canada? I keep on asking for details on this compliant and I never get them.

I think Trump supporters are blaming Canada for things done by the US government and US corporations, but they would rather blame Canada and Mexico and other countries, rather then blaming actors within the US for these problems.

You have not answered those questions, you just deflect Trudeau when I asked would support Trump if he tries to promote a one sided trad deal with Canada or why its wrong for Canada subsidize Bombardier, but okay for the US to subsidize Boeing? Deflecting is not answering.

At this point, I do think you favor appeasing Trump over the well being of your fellow Canadians.

Sounds like you're the one with resentment issues.

That's not an answer to anything I have asked, if you are going to state that NAFTA greatly favors Canada over the US, you should present some facts to back up that position. I keep on asking Trump supporters why they think NAFTA favors Canada over the US and they never give a good answer. I think its an emotional position that doesn't hold up to any real factual analysis.

What, do you think Canada has a secret palace somewhere filled with money they "stole" from America through bad trade deals?

How do you know a one-sided deal? We don't know the details.

I'm a Canuck and I like Donny-Boy. I like him because he's amusing.
I mean really now...who isn't amused by a "leader of the free world", publishing his opinion at 3AM while he has a mid-morning bowel movement?
Trump gave the US public an opportunity to express their detest for their own government. IMO, its as simple as that.
And having watched on for many years, I don't blame them.

In Canuckland we have Prime Minister Pixey-Dust. I believe li'l Pixey-Dust isn't really concerned with Canada, but rather with the fulfillment of his Daddy's desire to become the head of the UN. Oh yes...Pixey-Dust is the real "darling" of the UN already. His cute smile, lovey-dovey words and measured tone. YUCK!

Canada is going to undergo some changes in the next federal election. Hopefully those changes will halt this current refugee program.
But we'll still be amused...by the American "outhouse poet".

If I may...regardless of what the Americans do with Boeing, Bombardier is Canada's eternal money-pit.
It should be left to whither and die.

The problem is how can we have fair competition, if the US can subsidize Boeing as much it wants, while Canada subsidizing Bombardier is out of bounds? If the rules don't apply to everyone, the rules are kinda worthless.

In addition kick Bombardier out of a market Boeing themselves do not participate in.

Why should I assume he is going to act in good faith in trade talks? He blamed the Canadian dairy system for dairy woes in Wisconsin and ignored the fact that Wisconsin is over producing dairy, if he constantly blames other countries for the US' self inflicted, how can he be expected to act in good faith in trade talks?

This whole "I support Trump because he gives a middle finger to the system" is rather juvenile and not conductive to good policy.

People can say "I hate the system and hope Trump tears it down", but then how do you run things after tearing down the system? Its a short sited and impractical outlook.

As for dairy......have you wondered why are we paying high price for our dairy?
I don't like subsidizing our businesses.....so, it's useless for you to bring up dairy!
I'm with Trump on that one. I want supply management gone!

Canada’s supply management system for dairy is no longer defensible

But for the North American free-trade agreement, our main negotiating challenge is this: The United States has a legitimate complaint. We continue to defend a system, at significant cost to consumers and to other parts of our economy, that is no longer defensible.

Our made-in-Canada cartel, based on high-price fixing, production control and extremely high tariffs, is the sick cow of global agricultural trade. The wealthy and powerful dairy, poultry and egg lobby has been able to engage in behaviour that for everyone else would be illegal.

Unfortunately, we still hear politicians repeating the dairy lobby's false and misleading talking points.

"Canadian prices aren't that high." Nonsense, of course they are – that's why we have tariffs ranging up to 300 per cent.

"We can't compete with the heavily subsidized U.S. dairy producers." Note that this contradicts the first position. But in recent years, the United States has dramatically reduced its own subsidization of dairy – and U.S. dairy is now exporting more and more around the world, leaving us behind.

We're paying high prices for the product of an industry taxpayers subsidize! Go figure.
Are we nuts? YES!
