So it looks like Ontario has failed the whole point of the exercise. The government wants to limit sales to most likely LCBO-run stores and online distribution, and there is only going to 40 of them to begin with. That is not going to be able to meet demand for the whole of Ontario, defeating the whole point of making it legal to take business away from illegal sources. Since it is the LCBO it also means they will probably charge insane prices further pushing people to continue buying from illegal sources.

Ontario has already failed, hopefully the other provinces don't follow.

Have you tried the online distribution? There are ten websites I know of, and they are very reliable with a larger and more varied inventory than most shops. You just gotta plan your smoking around delivery times. Instead of waiting til you run out to buy more, get more a couple days before you run out. I mean unless your smoking all day, everyday, or have a sporadic income it should work fine for ya.

Or just grow it yourself, I think they are going to allow for 4 plants in the law. Depending on the strain you can yield 2-3 lbs every 6-8 months easy. Or stagger your grows, start two when your first two start flowering.

Agreed, colossally dumb.

Fortunately Kathleen Wynne looks to be on her way out.

Why should the charge insane prices? And yes. The number of outlets is low. But it should be enough to start with. But how are these shops organised? Private? Public?

LCBO is a government owned Crown corporation.

Despite my initial pessimism however, perhaps it could work assuming the LCBO is sufficiently aggressive about expanding outlets/availability, is willing to purchase/cultivate and supply a diversity of strains and sells them at a reasonable price. Still, not my preference, but if the rollout is intelligent, I think it will be successful.

Well, it is certainly better than prohibition. But it seems better to sell the drugs privately; maybe through the drugstore system.

The rule of thumb among good growers is a pound a light. Talking about 1,000 watt HPS lamps and if you grow them out to maturity, which is probably the best way to get maximum yield from a few plants.
If enough people do that the black market could make the government smarten up their distribution scheme.

Are there pot dispensaries in Ontario? Out here, they've become ubiquitous, with the need for medical prescription and licensed suppliers on a nod-and-a-wink basis. I know growes here who've given up the black market altogether and take a lower price for the assured sales through the back door of the dispensaries.

Because that is what do with liqueur. They will be run by the LCBO, a government run crown corporation that currently monopolizes non-beer alcohol sales. It won't be enough to meet demand and shut out the illegal market and they only have 125 planned by 2020 which is still very few.

The online distribution will be taken over by whatever entity they create to run it that will be the only legal way to obtain recreational marijuana as far as I can tell.

Yes they will just either become illegal, limited to medical marijuana, or can only supply this new entity. I would assume anyways.

Medical growers in Los Angeles are actively working to control the market by locking out new competition, too. We'll see how the rest of California does.

Turns out marijuana businessmen are in it for the money. Whodathunkit?

um, once the law changes, I will discuss this more with you. Let's just say I have plans...

That's the main reason I want it legalized, I want to get in early and become a robber baron of weed. Set up a dynasty and a brand, the whole nine.

I wish you well, but you're too late to be early, and there's going to be a LOT of competition, at least for a while. The home grow market will also be booming.

Also, there's really no natural reason for weed to cost much more than high end roses. A significant amount of the profit comes from it being illegal.

Once a grower can call the cops if his weed gets stolen, and can market and ship products openly, the only thing keeping it expensive will be the sin taxes, and the seller doesn't get to keep that.

Don't get me wrong, demand is massive and there's fortunes to be made.

Something doesn't have to be expensive to be profitable. That's while I'll be a robber baron. I won't be making a profit off the sales. You have to understand, it's hard starting up a successful shop of any kind. Whether it's weed, or dildos. It's much easier to find one that's already started, already successful, buy it, and then buy a bunch of property all over the country and then license the franchise rights to the successful shop with the stipulation they have to rent the land their shops sits on from me.

All I have to do is have one or two profitable stores, that I don't even have to start or deal with the bull**** on. Market the hell out of that shop, and offer franchise licenses to investors from across the country. All without growing or selling a plant myself. It's more intricate and complicated than that, but that's the general gist of it.

What a gong show!! Do you have a link? I want to read how badly Wynne is going to **** this up... Stupid stupid stupid...

Pretty good summation as to how/why the Ontario roll out is such a colossal boondoggle. The more I read into it, the more dubious and less likely to succeed a LCBO exclusive distribution scheme appears.

I expect Wynne to rethink her approach considerably in short order, or her reelection prospects are likely to go from bleak to laughable.

Perhaps Canada should consult with some cartel member's.....they seem to have distribution down to a fine art.

Her re-election prospects have actually improved recently because the PCs seem to again be cursed and somehow manage to **** up a giant lead.

In Florida we had a less high tech method back in the 70's. We threw a handful of seeds in the tall weeds behind the shed, a few along the swamp, and a few more out in the pines. Turns out...plants grow with dirt, sunlight, water, etc. ;)

I'll be honest, if the PCs are the alternative (as appears probable per the polling), horrible as she is, Wynne starts looking a lot less bad. My remote hope is the NDP somehow pull a hat trick and come in from behind.

Bottom line, there's a lot of pressure on her to reform this horrible plan both from the industry and consumer side alike, and I think that if she has even a fraction of an iota of political sense, she'll make some deeply needed revisions to her approach.

They do indeed, and I grow a couple outdoors every year. Commercial growers in Canada don't have a Florida growing season, though.

From the latest polls it almost looks like a three way tie. But who knows, there is still 9 months to go though.

Just sell it out of regular OLCB stores.

Simple efficient and controllable
