What happened to the U.S.A.?

You don't consider them human or think they should have any rights. There's not much difference.

Very big difference. I do not kill people or commit crimes. They do. And when a human being intentionally kills innocent men, women, and children, they cease to be human. They become animals. I don't have any empathy for them, even if you do. Can they stay at your house for the weekend?

Perhaps some day, you will learn what an illegal combatant is. He was not fighting under any nations flag. He was a terrorist with connections to Al Qeuda and other terrorist groups. His murder of the American soldier was not a justified act of war.

The American soldier would have murdered him. Would that be an act of war?
How the heck do you invade a country and decide that resistance is illegal?

You are playing dumb. Terrorists are not uniformed Iraqi or Afghanistan troops. They are not fighting under any nation's flag. They are simply taking advantage of the chaos of war for the advantage of whichever terrorist group they belong to. They are not covered under the Geneva Conventions. As for an American Soldier so-called murdering him, not going to happen if he is not in a war zone and shooting at Americans or Afghan troops.

Not shooting and surrendering to the Northern Alliance and or US Military forces cost about 3000 of the 8000 Taliban fighters who surrendered at Mazar-e-Sharif their lives despite guarantees from their adversaries to spare their lives. The US was likely complicit in these deaths by hiding the event after the fact, so your argument that there was no jeopardy for not resisting the US forces and their allies rings a bit hollow. It wasn't Omar Khadr and his ilk which moved an army halfway around the world and invaded Afghanistan without a proper declaration of war (the AUMF was a whitewash). It was the US which attacked the compound by bombing it with fighter bombers and attacking it with helicopter gunships, nearly raising it to the ground before sending in a fire team to clear the ruins. No surrender was given and had Omar Khadr not spoken English he would have likely been left to die like so many other young men and boys killed in Afghanistan.

I'm not saying Khadr was an innocent, he wasn't. But he was a 15 year old minor and was illegally transferred by the US Government to Cuba, held offshore and away from normal US legal protections, subjected to extrodinary interrogation techniques which are now illegal again, denied basic legal and human rights guaranteed to him under Canadian Law and also by international convention and custom and thus the Canadian Federal Government was a co-conspirator with the US Government in this denial. That's why he was able to sue the Canadian Federal Government and win the settlement he did. The law protects both popular and very unpopular people equally, regardless of how odious you or I may think them.

I am Canadian. As such I have a bit of insight into internal political squabbles that have happened over the years.
weak internationally
Something new happened tpday. The current President called out another President in an international forum.

Wow, has America ever looked so weak internationally?

We need a new country to look to, for leadership. The U.S.A. is so internally focused, they are
a mess.

Well since Canada obviously can't fill the bill, or we'd all be looking to Canada, how about we have a "Leadership Lottery", who ever comes up with the winning numbers leads the world.

Canada wouldn't want to piss off the US in a such a way that we really had to act - would you?

What happened? The Democrats got shellacked one too many times. That cause the former President to call out the current President in an international forum. Just so happens the current President won't take that kind of ****.

Now...why the hell are you, a Canadian, looking to ANY other country for leadership? Doesn't your own provide you any?

I have to agree with this.
Why would a Canuck look to the States for leadership?

Yes...though my complete point has nothing to do with the States. It has to do with this idea that Canadians have to look to another country for leadership. It seems to indicate they need some other country to show them the way to go.

I can't speak for other Canadians, but I enjoy US politics because its so entertaining. Our country is completely stable and boring compared to the last 20 or so years of the US scene.

let the United Nations be that - they need a Reform, but that´s their job

always bashing them, as a lot of people do, makes no sense for me. They are the international community and should find the compromises on a more fair base than "leading countries"

rjay, my polite Canadian friend.
All you need to do for your answer is look at most of the replies to your thread and you can see what has happened to the United States.
We have digressed into separate tribes of bickering hateful trolls with not one able to put aside that hatred for the good of the country.
Since the election of 2016, you can see much of it rise to the surface.
By the election of 2020, I feel there will be blood in the streets because of this.

As you may remember, in better times, we had elections and one side won, the other conceded, and that was that.
In 2016, we had violence against and insults against anyone of whom did not vote the way someone else did, and then the complete demonizing of those that did.
It is going on right now and on this forum you can see classic examples of it on the very first page of your thread.

We died from within, just like Abe Lincoln said it might be.
We are still breathing, but we as a united republic died in 2016.
We are just bleeding out right now.

Quite similar process here in Europe

Either you are my opinion, or you are my enemy....

The more tribalism, the more people demonize those who do not think like they do, the more justification they have in spilling blood.
I am hunkering down.
I have already had the misfortune of attempting to discuss with others politely, but their agenda driven vision and view of reality makes them illogical, fanatical, and dangerous.
One day soon they will take to the streets with guns.
Fortunately, they are lousy shots, hate firearms, and actually think words hurt more that bullets.
(back to that alternative reality they have)

:( - no nice future options seems so

here in Germany the rightwingers created a swearword. "Gutmenschen" - means "good humans" people who wanna have a nice world and at best for all. It shall suggest they are naive and will ruin the Country. Perverted stand in my view...

I´ve been reviled for beeing one several times...

I´ve been reviled that way several times...

Only in a goofy world would the term "good humans" be considered an insult.
Care to make a pact?
I come stay with you if my country goes to hell and you can come stay with me if yours goes to hell first.
I love German food. You like Texas barbecue?

Logging off now. I will look for you later on. I enjoyed or conversation.

deal!

I think I would love the West - see the picture in my Profile ;o) - and Texas style barbecue finds no competition in the world. Friends told me what we eat here is only a cheap copy.

I have a small farm here and if both goe to hell we might go into the woods ;) :D

I live on the saltgrass coastal plains, but the thick woods or only an hour and a half away. I know a place.
So the woods it is, no matter what country.
Deal, my friend.
