Citing ‘misunderstanding,’ Tory senator drops $250,000 lawsuit against House of Commons over cafeteria fall | National Post

Manning, who was back on his home turf of Newfoundland Thursday, said in a statement that he’s instructed his legal counsel to discontinue the lawsuit.

“I initially sought legal counsel following this unfortunate incident in an effort to secure reimbursement of certain out-of-pocket expenditures,” the statement said.

“There was a significant misunderstanding about the scope and amount of damages to be claimed. I understand that counsel filed a Statement of Claim on June 9, 2017, in the interest of preserving any legal claim, pursuant to the applicable statute of limitations. I was later notified that such legal action had commenced. I have instructed counsel to discontinue this matter.”

His wife, Sandra Manning, was suing for $50,000 plus further damages due to the “impact that Fabian Manning’s injuries have had on her relationship with him, including the loss of companionship.”
What a lying sack of excrement.
Both you and your wife sued the Crown.
Did I already say - What a lying sack of excrement?

The worst thing about Canada is we can't fire these assholes, and shooting them is not green.

Aside from lead poisoning green cemeteries are the new eco rage.

is this guy a lying sack of excrement because he's a politician (standard opinion) or because he lied about the slip-fall-concussion/bodily injuries and has no grounds for a lawsuit? Scuse me, but if this is a case of negligence on the part of the "body" responsible for the area on which he slipped, then I think he is within his rights to sue if he has incurred expenses related to his fall (not covered by the nice medical insurance package he has).
I would like to know what these expenses are because I practically LOL'ed on the loss of companionship thing, whatever that is (keep in mind a large portion of this is going to the lawyer).

According to the author (of an earlier article):

The document says Manning suffered injuries which have “caused and will continue to cause a reduced capacity to perform the essential tasks of his work as a member of the Senate or any other occupation he is reasonably suited for.”

Manning is suing for $200,000, plus an unspecified amount of special damages for loss of income-earning capacity, loss of household and handyman capacity, and costs of care.

His wife, Sandra Manning, is suing for $50,000 due to the “impact that Fabian Manning’s injuries have had on her relationship with him, including the loss of companionship.” She’s also suing for unspecified special damages for the cost of caring for him.
