Dear Conservative Party of Canada

Most immigrants to Canada are socially conservative. That does not mean they tend to vote Conservative, the so called 401 voting area which is heavily populated with immigrants has tended to vote Liberal, but the previous elections (when Harper was winning) they voted Conservative. The Jason Kenny's of the conservative party I expect drove them back to the liberal party. As many Indian's, Pakistani's and Chinese, have other family members they would like to see brought into Canada the xenophobic tone the Conservative had in the last election drove what could have been a long term voting block away.

Kellie Leitch with the "Canadian Values" is likely to do the same. Unless she changes the term to something that has the tone of respecting the Charter of Rights, I expect many will see Canadian values as meaning white christian Canadian values. A throwback to what Canada was doing to minorities before the 70's (including native Canadians). When I hear the term Canadian Values from Kellie Leitch it is what comes to my mind

"Canadian values"? Who do they think they're talking to? I've lived urban, I've lived rural, I've lived in the Yukon, I've never known anyone who would respond positively to that as an election platform. Well, maybe a couple old aunts who also think the Catholic Church started down that slope when they stopped saying mass in Latin. My ancestors were highland Scots- I'm so white I'm pasty but I'm also just 2nd generation. I don't have any Canadian grandparents so lots of these Muslims and Sikhs and maybe most of the Chinese here in the west are more Canadian than I am.
I wonder how much of this new-found populism is just the Conservative party trying to 'me-too' it's way back into power.

Can our candidates running for leadership please stop sounding like liberals?

Really.....I think most of you are liberals in conservative clothings - or you're now confused about your own stripes. When I listen to you talk, all I have to do is close my eyes, and I feel like attending a blasted liberal rally!

I know, if you want to have the chance of getting elected in this land, you've got to talk the talk - you've got to sound liberal. However, how can we ever change things around here if nobody will muster up the courage to say things that only makes sense?

Win or lose, you have to stand up and be conservatives in your visions!

There is a major shifting happening next door, and I don't think I'm imagining things when I say that it's catching on. You've got to know when to seize the moment. That's part of being a great leader.

It makes me question the thinking process of CP candidates who dare criticize Kellie Leitch for promoting screening and vetting of would-be applicants that they be compatible with our Canadian values.

Some moron stupidly asked, What is Canadian values? DOH? Need you ask?

Would you consider calling for jihad on gays, promiscious and "slutty" women, Canadian values? Do you consider genital mutilation of women, arranged marriages, honor killings, Canadian values?

Is forced submission of women, inequality, a Canadian value?

Any CP candidate who find anything wrong with what Kellie Leitch had proposed regarding screening for shared values, is not a conservative. She/He has the same dysfunctional liberal mind!

The new leader of CPC must put Canada and its citizen's interest first, and foremost!

What citizen doesn't glow hearing that he comes first? That the best interest of his country comes first?

You bet, a lot of everday folks - folks who have no secret agenda - are secretly wishing our politicians are like Trump.

What? There are conservatives in the great socialist utopia to our north? Don't tell our liberals.

Of course, like most Christians, - they are conservative in their views.

But let's face it. If they're being courted, and pandered to by Liberals, why wouldn't they vote for Liberals? If Liberals are Muslim-friendly, and would let in thousands of them a year....hey, what ethnicity wouldn't vote for Liberals if they're shown that kind of pandering to?

When Muslims become a force to be reckoned with, politically-wise, let's see if Liberals don't start curving their liberalism when it comes to social values.

Do you think the Liberal Party is more immigrant-friendly than the Conservative Party was? The Harper government made the immigration process easy, for the right immigrants. 'Boot-strap immigrants', they're called, and they know which party greased the wheels for them. Harper's immigration reforms won't be tampered with by the Liberals, you watch.
What do you mean by 'courted and pandered to'? I don't understand that part.

Nothing socialist about Canada, or utopian either come to think of it.
'Conservative' and 'liberal' seem to mean different things here. We have the Conservative Party- remember Tories? That's the Conservatives. The Liberal Party used to be the Whigs. And we have the NDP (New Democratic Party) who are a place where socialists and progressives can console each other and make a vegetarian lasagna for the group.

They would never do that because then they alienate their core voting block.

And if the Liberals keep committing boondoggles like the ER rejection, might well have a minority federal government in 2019 should they get a competent leader, especially if the Conservatives do not.

When Muslims - by sheer number of population - becomes the force to be reckoned with, vote-wise - they wouldn't care about their core voting block. They'd want the Muslims to be their core voting block.

Lol. I said all that in jest. My father hunts there every year and he always gets the stories from the conservatives there on their politics.

I don't see the NDP forming a government. Those heady days of being the Opposition only happened because Quebec rejected the Liberals under Ignatieff.
I've never voted Conservative but I have sat elections out if the Liberal leader pissed me off. Trudeau might do that.

That is never happening, how many Muslims do you think immigrate a year? Immigrants as a whole however make a pretty influential voting block, that is 25% of the population but they do not vote as one.

I don't really see the ER rejection hurting them too much in the long-run. They do technically have valid reasons.

Never say never.

They're allowed 4 wives, and they tend to have big families. Do the math. It's not impossible given time.

You are forgetting that muslims are not all the same, and often do not agree with other muslims. They are not some monolithic block

Iranians generally are disliked by Arabic muslims, Pakistani's have their own interests different from Arabic muslims and the vast number of different arabic muslims often do not agree with each other.

Secondly they are not legally allowed 4 wives in Canada, and the families of the ones I know (educated middle class are small. Limited to 1-2 kids)

We as a nation accept more non muslims in a year through immigration. Primarily Indian (Hindu) Chinese and filipino's being the largest immigrant groups to Canada. Filipino's and Indians do tend to have large families

It will hurt with the Green/NDP support they might have had in the last election

They are not and that tends to end after the first generation where they go back to at or below replacement birth rates. Also not all Muslims are one borg, they all have different views and the generations get more and more progressive. One thing that may get the support of one group of Muslims will most likely piss off another, just like Christians.

Yes, when Ignatieff was around Conservatives were strong, while Liberals were weak; what happens when both of them are anemic?

I think it will _definitely_ hurt them with the left, particularly the support stealed from the NDP/Green by lying about ER, and that is likely to cost them at least their majority if the NDP have any half-way decent leader, nevermind the general trust issues. If they continue to alienate the left (such as by committing electoral suicide in breaking their promise on weed legalization), I can see NDP potentially forming government if the Cons have awful leadership (O'Leary or any nationalist would probably be a trainwreck in Canada).

Also no, I don't accept that they had valid reasons for abandoning ER; those given were either falsehoods or self-serving excuses. Liberals essentially broke their promise on the basis of big donor pressure (as it would mean the effective death of Conservatives as a federal political power and forever shift the balance of power in the direction of the left, much to the chagrin of the Canadian rich) and the perception that it would be best for their own political fortunes (if it ain't broke, don't fix it philosophy now that they have a majority; also that sweet corporate cash. Gotta court those Aga Khan dollars).

I the NDP would have been unhappy regardless because the Liberals would have wanted AV which gives the Liberals a natural advantage not PR. It is a lose lose situation.

That's probable, but AV still would have benefited them more than the status quo (unless the backlash is truly immense come 2019).

Also, that's the leading reason why I think the Liberals made a political miscalculation, and why I think donors weighed in on this issue; AV would have let them keep their promise, while advancing their political interests, yet they chose to abandon it. Rest assured, the reasons have nothing to do with 'principle' and what's best for Canadians.

It depends on which group becomes dominant. It doesn't have to be Muslim.
The dominant group that will have the power to put a PM on the throne, will be pandered to.
It's all about numbers now.

It has always been about numbers

The dominate group for the next 50 years will be the various ethnically european Canadians. They will probably become a minority majority, but still be the dominate ethnic group in Canada.

As for the other ethnic groups, as the amount of immigration and birth rates after the first generation tend to match the overall Canadian ave, none will ever become a majority majority in Canada. With the possible exception of mildly agnostic Canadians

I get their mail. Somebody for O'Leary keeps calling me, I keep replying in French.

The "Conservative Party" as we have known it is dead.

Stephen Harper made sure no one ever shone too brightly in his presence and now that the arrogant prick has disappeared, they are like beavers wandering in the gnawing down trees with no particular aim nor plan.

The US phenomenon NOT catching on, the last poll showed that barely 25% would consider immigration bans like Trump is pressing, and its a soft 25. Meanwhile 53% of Canadians would like to do more to bring in refugees.

No one is talking about tax cuts for the rich except O'Leary and, as mentioned, he doesn't speak a word of French meaning he will lose New Brunswick, Northern Ontario and all of Quebec.

Meanwhile, British Columbia has no contestant in the race, but polls 83 % against immigration bans, tax breaks for the rich etc.

The reason they all sound like liberals is because that's where the votes are, that's what people are telling them they want.

For the record, polls show Canada's 'rescue' of 50,000 plus Syrians is one of the most popular moves made by a prime minister since Trudeau told Nixon to "**** off"

I figure this jack ass down south is going to offend the Canadian people even more, and in the end you won't see anyone touting his "ideas"

It has and for the foreseeable future will always be immigrants.
