Radio Canada reported on Wednesday that Montreal police arrested a 47-year-old man in the middle of the night for writing hateful comments on social media about Muslims.

No Canadian media outlet reported that any of the man’s comments were perceived as a direct threat.

He is not alone, though, Montreal police noted that they have gone after at least two other individuals for hate speech online. The incidents couldn’t have been serious because both cases ended with an apology from the accused offenders.

The Canadian government has become so active in monitoring and arresting people for hate speech violations. They have even created a special task force of 55 people just to monitor social media for anything deemed offensive. The group is called Agenda Vigilance and is compiled of 35 new police officers and 20 civilians.

Unlike the United States, Canada does not have an absolute right to freedom of speech and the local government believes the best available use of their resources is looking for internet trolls that hurt people’s feelings.

Middle of the night? Enforcing Sharia?

Sounds like an easy job for the most part.

I mean, "Canadians" and "hate speech".... almost an oxymoron, eh? :)

This is what happens when people "trust their government" not to need clear Constitutional protections for individual rights like freedom of expression? The speech (and thought) police eventually pop into existence. :coffeepap:

"1984" up north? That has been coming up a bit, "1984". Intimidation at its finest.

Meanwhile the press right here in our home land has to deal with Trump- the Barney Fife of thought police.

Once more.... Do you support and defend Muslim hate speech as well?

Do you mean "hate speech" against Muslims? The problem, is that simply stating what is written in the Quran, what is there in black and white for everyone to read, can now be considered "hate speech." Stating what Mohammad did during his lifetime, an example all Muslims should emulate, can now be considered "hate speech." So, there is hate speech and there is hate speech.

Hate speech as in hate speech....

In this case anti-Muslim hate speech.

I'm pretty sure no one was simply quoting the Quran.

no thanks, reputable outlets being preferred.

making online threats the way Antonio Padula did is not to be taken lightly, especially since that's what the Quebec shooter did as well before carrying the threats out.

Of course, a source you don't accept. When you have something besides attacking the messenger let me know.

Are they?

NO. THEY ARE MONITORING THE ISLAMOPHOBES LIKE THE ONE THAT KILLED THOSE PEOPLE IN QUEBEC.

There is a huge difference between Islamaphobia and "anything deemed offensive."

Do you want to try and pose your silly crybully loaded question to me?

The source in the OP is nothing but crap

My opinion.

That's not proof, that's not even anything. Just dismissive, baseless namecalling that is NOT AN ARGUMENT nor is it a contribution in any way.

Anything that can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

Well it is my right is it not?

I don't know you live in Canada. You had better check.

No need to crap story

Bolded takes you to the link on CBC where he was charged with uttering threats.
No mention of that at all. Facts missing.

In response to the deadly terror attack that claimed the lives of six Muslim Canadians who were peacefully praying at a mosque in Quebec City, the government is attacking free speech rights.

Radio Canada reported on Wednesday that Montreal police arrested a 47-year-old man in the middle of the night for writing hateful comments on social media about Muslims.
