With friends like these, maybe sexual assault allegation can disappear! The Post reports that the friends of former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn are contacting the overseas relatives of his accuser, "offering them money to make the case go away since they can't reach her in protective custody... The woman, who says she was sexually assaulted by the disgraced former head of the International Monetary Fund, has an extended family in the former French colony of Guinea in West Africa." A French businesswoman who knows Strauss-Kahn and his family says the friends "already talked with her family. For sure, it's going to end up on a quiet note."

Strauss-Kahn is accused of forcing the maid to perform oral sex on him in his Sofitel hotel suite on May 14. While the Manhattan DA's office has apparently warned the accuser's family not to accept calls from his connections, Cyrus Vance's reach only goes so far. The source continued, "He'll get out of it and will fly back to France. He won't spend time in jail. The woman will get a lot of money"—possibly a seven-figure payout.

Fox News reported on the alleged exchange between the 32-year-old maid and Strauss-Kahn, which—allegedly—included him grabbing her breasts and bloody sheets:

If she takes the cash she will be letting the rapist rape another day. I hope nobody need tell her that.

Better idea is for someone to start a defense fund to counter the swine called DSK's "friends". I think the press should dig and reveal who these "friends" are too. For the enablers of rapists should become public knowledge.

I say take the money. It sounds like she'll get a very nice amount that should serve as the best compensation one can ask. But, if he is not guilty, she shouldn't take it. Justice will find itself outside the courtroom.

It's not enabling rape. They are offering compensation. The fact that compensation is made will make it less likely for it to happen again, if indeed he is guilty. It's very unlikely she take compensation if he is innocent.

Punishment is not necessary in order for Justice to be carried out, but making one pay for what they've done is required.

You're joking of course.
You're not? Are you admitting to being morally bankrupt?

I can't see how anyone could take blood money in such instances. I couldn't live with myself, and sure most couldn't knowing that farce for a human is on the loose.

Good news. Though she hasn't seen he family in 10-years, it seems they share her ethical core.
"In our family, we are above material things," said Mamoudou, a 50-year-old man who says he is the brother of DSK's accuser. (Reuters said it withheld his family name or the name of his home village "to protect the identity of the alleged assault victim.") He adds, "Even if you are a billionaire, we don't care. The most important thing for us is how you follow God's path."

I wish I had friends that could afford to bribe me out of trouble.

Of course, they'd get sick of me awful damn fast.

Both sides' lawyers have denied the rumor. From Bloomberg.com:

Shapiro said he had no knowledge that anyone had approached the maid’s family in Guinea with offers of money to make the case go away, as the New York Post reported.

William Taylor, a lawyer for Strauss-Kahn, said in a statement yesterday that reports of Strauss-Kahn’s attorneys’ or representatives’ being in contact with the woman or her family are false.

IMO, the media should avoid engaging in speculation unless it can corroborate the claims. This latest story can only fuel perceptions that the U.S. media is not handling the case in an objective fashion.

I'll agree, but often what is slapped as rumor is actually happening or has happened. The oil-for-food corruption scandal was initially vehemently denied.

This may have been a clever, preventive ploy.
