Palin says White House invite to rapper Common lacks ‘decency’

I feel deeply sorry for your children, if you have any.

Thank God I don't have any and don't intend to but if I had any children they would have a decent upbringing and they wouldn't be wearing their pants showing their underwear either.

I feel sorry for SOME kids nowadys they are the victims of the ignorance of their parents.

Palin says White House invite to rapper Common lacks ‘decency’ - Yahoo! News

What a stupid little country hick this bitch is. Did she even read the actual "cop killing" line she talks about? It has nothing to do with cop killing to begin with. I'm glad Palin chose this rapper to trash talk. He's quite possibly one of the most clean cut, pro-peace rappers there are and she's saying he's indecent? I guess she'd prefer cats like Johny Cash and Eazy-E.

Is that the excuse de jour?

You know he was not actually advocating burning the president, right?

“Seeing a fiend being hung

With that happening, why they messing with Saddam?

Burn a Bush cos’ for peace he no push no button

Killing over oil and grease

no weapons of destruction

How can we follow a leader when this a corrupt one

The government’s a g-unit and they might buck young black people

Black people in the urban area one

I hold up a peace sign, but I carry a gun.

Peace, ya’ll.”

He wasn't referring to GW. Right!!! :lamo

You're smarter than that.

This post would have more power if "trash" was more than a purely subjective label to music that you have clearly not taken the time to examine beyond the surface. Unfortunately, it isn't so keep on staying in the past while the rest of country makes some progress.

Rap music is progress?

Rap music is progress?

Looking beyond the surface and understanding the meaning behind the music instead of making surface evaluations is progress.

As far as rap music itself, I wouldn't necessarily call any music "progress". Music is always one of the ways generations express themselves - it just changes with every generation. Some rap music (and country music, pop music, etc.) is purely for entertainment, some has deeper meaning.

Redress wasn't denying the he was referring to president Bush, as you seem to believe. Redress was referring to the fact the common is not literally calling on people to burn president Bush.

You're smarter than that.

No......

Really?

I know this is hard to believe, but I was pointing out that he was not calling for people to burn, or otherwise kill Bush.

I find it hilarious the amount of manufactured controversy Obama is having to deal with.

Honestly "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" is just as offensive as any of Common's lyrics, yet Cash gets a free pass while Common is apparently a cop killer...

Come on guys. You can find something less blatantly trivial and foolish to bash Obama on.

Thats all the needs said "MANUFACTURED CONTROVERSY"

there legit things people could disagree with Obama on, this is totally meaningless and laughable to anybody smart and objective

News flash!!! Cash is dead.

It was Bush 41, not Reagan. It was a lunch benefitting GOP Senatorial candidates, from what I can glean from Googling. E was a party contributor apparently and was invited to the benefit by Bob Dole. I don't know if he spoke, or if his lyrics were praised as poetry.

Do the Right-Wing Thing | EW.com

I also know nothing of his recordings. He apparently sang about killing cops?

Yes. I'd say bad form. Maybe a nice thank you for your donation letter should have been the limit.

EDIT: Re-reading the link, it was hoped that E would assist with fundraising after publicly praising Bush 41.

Sorry for spreading missinformation:(

My point still stands though: does the right have a problem with Easy E being invited? Guess it is ok if it is under a right watch:)

Again sorry for giving false info. I really thought that was true and RR had invited him. lol.

People who come out with offensive and trashy songs should not be invited to the White House, I don't care whether the "supposedly" poet is black or white and the president should of used common sense, after all he is no longer a regular citizen, he is the president.
Obama has always hung around with that kind of people ie: Jones, Rev, Wright, Ayers (to name a few) and it just so happens that Common is Rev. Wright's closest friend. What a coincidence.
Show me who your friends are and I'll show you who you are.
I hope that now you know the difference.

So who gets to call dibbs on what is or is not offensive and trashy?

Hey Vic

Have you listened to "A Song For Assata"?

just google it and read the lyrics, it brought tears to my eyes imagining the things that woman has been through.
I don't know if she pulled the trigger which killed that trooper but, the case isn't Black and White... (or is it....kkk and rappers mentioned in the thread)

The N.J State Police call her a cop killer, but why did that shoot-out even occur? And why did they have to use such enhanced interrogation techniques to evoke that confession>?

And in "A Letter to the Law" Common is clearly using the gun as a metaphor for his passion, his anger. Actually, in the song he says the power of mind and community is bigger than boys popping guns. His uzi weighs a ton, he's got the black strap ---- the conscious, unified citizenry is more powerful than guns, AND HE IS ANGRY. This is the point of the song as I interpret it?

Now, how about the real issues, like why he was so angry to make such strong metaphors?

No worries, Kali. It's just DP. Who's reading this bilge but us?

All I can say is Dole and Gramm had nothing to say when asked why E was invited. And in fairness, E was not invited because of his "poetry" as Common was, and to my knowledge, E wrote no "poems" praising convicted cop killers.

Sarah Palin's looking for attention by bashing Obama? What'll happen next? My guess is that the sun will rise in the east.

If the meaning of rap music is progress, then we're all ****ed.

So, when he said, "burn Bush", that's supposed to be some sorta harmless metaphor?

Now, you're just being obtuse.

I that woman? Is a criminal.
In May 1973 Shakur was involved in a shootout on the New Jersey Turnpike, during which New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster and BLA member Zayd Malik Shakur were killed and Shakur and Trooper James Harper were wounded.[5] Between 1973 and 1977, Shakur was indicted in relation to six other alleged criminal incidents—charged with murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, bank robbery, and kidnapping—resulting in three acquittals and three dismissals. In 1977, she was convicted of the first-degree murder of Foerster and of seven other felonies related to the shootout.[6]
Shakur was then incarcerated in several prisons, where her treatment drew criticism from some human rights groups. She escaped from prison in 1979 and has been living in Cuba in political asylum since 1984. Since May 2, 2005, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has classified her as a "domestic terrorist" and offered a $1 million reward for assistance in her capture. Attempts to extradite her have resulted in letters to the Pope and a Congressional resolution. Shakur is the step-aunt of the deceased hip hop icon Tupac Shakur (the sister of his stepfather, Mutulu Shakur). Her life has been portrayed in literature, film and song.[7]

She's a criminal, a domestic terrorist. She's scum of the earth.

you would do well to speak respectfully of more succesful and intelligent peoples, palin specifically. the point she was making is that if you are the head of the civilized world, you should sorround yourself with truly intelligent, talented and inspiring individual. all common does is bash bush, praise obama, andact like he is a victim of some pervasive racism in the white mans world. though not a cop killer himself (i would never assume such an edge on that passive wannabe) his virtues are limited and there are a thousand more people who would have better fit a white house guest role. obama desperately wants to look cool these days.

Some folks just detest Rap. It's banned in my house.
And that's something I will never understand. I wasn't allowed to listen to it when I was younger in my house because of swear words and "mature themes", but my parents didn't detest it. As far as I'm concerned rappers are telling stories like other musicians - they're just telling stories that some people don't want to hear.
