Wouldn't the same logic apply to a person's right to be represented by an attorney in court?

No. Because you have the CHOICE to have an attorney represent you, or you can choose to have a court appointed one.

That apple sure fell far from tree.

The guy is an embarrassment to the senate.

He's spot on,

Is "spot on" one of those newfangled slang terms all the kids are using these days to indicate something us older folks used to call "bat shit crazy?

No. Because you have the CHOICE to have an attorney represent you, or you can choose to have a court appointed one.

And how is this different? I'm not aware of ANY universal health care system in which the government "comes to the house" of doctors and "conscripts" them. Even under some of the most heavily-regulated European systems, the government doesn't force anyone to become a doctor in the first place, and they can quit anytime they want.

Comparing universal health care to slavery is ****ing retarded.

Oh my god my health care is provided for! This is slavery!!?!?
How is this slavery?
Like Kandahar said even the most "regulated" systems you choose your doctor, your hospital and etc...

How is it funded?

........at the end of a gun......by brute force......at the expense of the fruits of another's labor?

Good thing thats not slavery......

Rand Paul is not stating it is slavery for the person getting medical care but for the medical provider.

Unlike a slave Rand would have the option of not provding his services, and he would not get beaten or hanged for it. He could instead become a politician who is far more demogogic then his father

And far less rational

Do you also believe that teachers, soldiers, prison guards, road workers, and other public servants are slaves? All of those services require funding "at the end of a gun by brute force" too.

Well like every "Free" American on the plantation......they fork over the fruits of their labor......or men with guns are dispatched to their door.

All of those services require funding "at the end of a gun by brute force" too.

Brute force has never been a requirement to fund any of them........but its how Democrats and Statists roll.......

That is not what Paul is saying.

"That means you have a right to come to my house and conscript me. It means you believe in slavery."

Under universal health care, the doctor is paid, not conscripted and forced to work without pay. You are arguing a different point, which is not Dr. Paul's point. Dr. Paul who takes Medicare patients.

But on Thursday evening, the ophthalmologist from Bowling Green said there was one thing he would not cut: Medicare physician payments.

In fact, Paul — who says 50% of his patients are on Medicare — wants to end cuts to physician payments under a program now in place called the sustained growth rate, or SGR. “Physicians should be allowed to make a comfortable living,” he told a gathering of neighbors in the back yard of Chris and Linda Wakild, just behind the 10th hole of a golf course.

Always so nice to hear white guys call random **** slavery. Next we'll have their token black politicians and our token right wing black members defending the use of the term "slavery" in this context.

It's been a popular form of argument in our country since the beginning. Why stop now?

I used to think really conservative right wing...because thats what very conservative and conservative is...right wing.. Over the years in the street in a major city, I saw reality every single day. Anyone that can have the views of a Rand Paul or any far right no one deserves anything but to make me richer types havent see ANYTHING of the real world.. Rand Paul was born with the proverbial spoon stickin out of keister hes never had a bad day in his life and I submit he couldnt handle a really bad day.

Badmutha, the fruits of someone elses labor ?? sounds like your talking about all the people that get up and go to work everyday making the rich man richer and STILL CANT AFFORD HEALTH CARE...they should what ?...just suffer, watch their kids suffer ? or just die so the corporations and rich can get another tax cut ...or what? pay no taxs at all.
I think all these richie rich kids need a taste of real life....

Well, socialized medicine is socialism, and socialism is slavery, so there's nothing to argue about.

That isn't what the right to health care means, or as it's being pursued. The discussion is about the government providing health care, via single payer, not showing up at the doctor's office and demanding it. How disingenuous of him.

There is no "right" to health care.

Health care is a service provided by professionals, and no one has a "right" to the labor of others. The presumption that some have a right to the labor of others is the defintion of slavery.

Kandahar what the teaparty mentality is that public workers are there to "SERVE" them but they dont want to pay them, they think everyone makes to much money but the rich...only the rich cant make enough

Why the hell do democrats always have to bring up slavery to...

Oh wait. :coffeepap

Its very Godwinesque.

oye vey.....

it's like the Civil Rights Act debate again.

Rand, you gotta realize, some things sound different on television than they do when you're figuring them out in your head.
