Question: If your elected officials fail basic taxonomy, promote anti-science curriculum, and consistently attempt to undermine the fundamental unpinning of all biology, what happens when they start trying to legislate from this flawed view of reality?

The answer is this poorly-worded miasma of a law recently passed in Florida, which presumably was designed to prevent bestiality and promote animal welfare, but which has actually made it illegal, effective October 1, 2011, for anyone to have sex in Florida.
Florida Senate fails basic biology, accidentally outlaws sex. « Southern Fried Science

An act relating to sexual activities involving animals; creating s. 828.126, F.S.; providing definitions; prohibiting knowing sexual conduct or sexual contact with an animal; prohibiting specified related activities; providing penalties; providing that the act does not apply to certain husbandry, conformation judging, and veterinary practices; providing an effective date.

We aren't animals. We're human beings. What a dumb take. (Not you...your link.)
We're not plants or minerals.
Besides, I am pretty sure it's meant to be a joke

I'm pretty sure that the courts would understand the intent of the law, but pretty funny nevertheless. Don't they at least get a staffer to proofread laws before they pass them? :lamo

Ummm...Homo sapiens are part of Kingdom Animalia, which means we are, by definition, animals. Good lord.....:lamo

I might have to consider some sort of security for my garden now, especially for my melons and cucumbers.

Guess I'm just not as smart as you, Redress. Hope you're not on the jury.

No we are animals. That is why the wording is problematic. Considering the US right is into exact interpretations of laws, then this law is very very poorly worded because if you do go by the exact interpretation then no more sex for human beings either since we are defined as animals as well.

I'm pretty sure that sex falls within the accepted standards of husbandry as far as wives are concerned.

Works for me. When all the Floridiots die out, then we can turn the entire state into a shopping mall.

95 % f Florida is people too old for sex anyway, and the rest are gays in Key West.

Fortunately there are enough exceptions to this that I am still able to get laid. Its about 60% too old, 15% gay, 20% too pretentious, and 5% viable candidates :)

edit: it will be 110% now, but I forget that there are some kids in Florida and 10% are too young (10% of Floridians, not kids you sick ****s) .
