Gasoline Taxes Per Gallon Nearly 7 Times Exxon Mobiles

Did it make up for what you're paying for gas and food, now and in the near future? Hope you don't have any smokers in your family either. He raised that tax as soon as he got to the WH. BTW, most smokers make less than $250K.

Gov. (good hair) Perry raised cigarette taxes too by a buck a pack.

Barb - The executive doesn't control gas and food prices. As for sin taxes, I thought most conservatives were for personal responsibility? Don't wanna blow your wallet, quit and stop destroying your lungs, that's how I see it.

Just spent over $75.00 to fill my tank. Gas was just over $4.10/gallon, 18 gallon tank.

I am seriously regretting buying my current car (2001 Ford Taurus SES). I finally decide to treat myself to something nice a few years ago, and now this happens. <sigh>

That's what the left is hoping for Whovian. They want us to regret what we drive so we'll be nudged into a vehicle and life style they prefer.

We passed peak oil in the US in 1971, and you just noticed? Most of the rest of the world pays double or more what we pay for gas, how did you think we would avoid paying more?

Peak oil? What the hec is that? We are finding new oil and technoligies to get to it like we never could before. If we are at peak oil it's only because we aren't tapping into our own resources. We also have over a hundred years of natural gas. Also,
Why are liberals constantly comparing us to other countries? We aren't other countries, we're different and I like it that way, don't you?

This Man Get's It !!
Herman Cain - Presidential Exploratory Committee

And now that people are feeling the pain at the pump, he blames oil speculators for high gas prices, which are now double what they were two years ago. Remember, that’s about the time President Obama took office. And, he says there is nothing that can be done in the short term to ease the pain at the pump.

With all due respect, Mr. President, there is something you could do to ease the pain at the pump. Namely, declare and implement a “drill here drill now” strategy. And remove the ridiculous restrictions on shale oil deposits available out west.

The very speculators you are blaming for the run-up in gas prices would quickly retreat if they thought you were serious about an energy independence plan to maximize all of our existing natural resources. The problem is supply and demand, and expectations about the changes in those dynamics. That’s what drives gasoline prices at the pump.

It was recently reported by Fox News that the United States of America has the largest fossil fuel reserve in the world, due to the shale oil deposits discovered out west, plus the oil we have available in the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska and the outer continental shelf.

We have the energy resources to achieve energy independence if the government would just get out of the way. Unfortunately, government is the problem.

The Obama Administration has used the Gulf oil disaster of a year ago to limit oil exploration in the Gulf and elsewhere. As a result, the oil production in the Gulf is down 13 percent versus a year ago. That also means that there are a corresponding number of people out of work, who are denied productive and well-paying jobs.

And this....

Obama Administration Responsible for Record Gas Prices - Yahoo! News

Be careful where the blame is laid in this situation. The Obama administration has laid the groundwork for this situation and it is now their responsibility to correct it without getting its hands into private industry. The problem can be solved with a simple change in the administration's policies.
If the Obama administration allows the oil companies to drill and relieve this pressure, prices will fall almost immediately on a barrel of oil. The speculators will flee oil in a second once we announce the United States will make it a priority to drill.
The administration is committed to alternative energy. I agree with its aggressive solar and wind energy policies, but it must not destroy the economy to make it a reality. It must allow the oil companies to spend their profits on drilling new wells and developing alternative energy at the same time
.

Yes and no.. depends on what you mean by "luxury and comfort". My SEAT from 2005 has automatic gear, cup holders (yea!), radio/CD, automatic windows, and is full of electronic crap I never use. It goes 40ish to the gallon. And it is very comfortable, can seat 5 persons comfortably provided they are not all size large.

:) cool!..............

Food prices and gas prices are tied together. Obama can bring down the gas prices so food would follow.
I am a conservative and that's why I don't like government nudging people into doing the "right" thing, be it eating your veggies, not smoking, what you drive, where you keep your thermostate set, what light bulb you use, or where you get your news.
I do believe in personal responsibility, that's why I am against taxing "sins" to the point people quit or go broke. As long as smoking and eating fries are legal, government has no business trying to force you to give it up.

Obama Opens Up Offshore Drilling and Oil and Gas Exploration - ABC News

In a move that angered environmentalists, President Obama today said he is lifting bans on offshore drilling and oil and gas exploration off the Virginia coast, and is expanding lease sales for oil and gas exploration on the Atlantic seaboard.

"This is not a decision that I've made lightly," Obama said at Andrews Air Force base today. "But the bottom line is this: Given our energy needs, in order to sustain economic growth, produce jobs and keep our businesses competitive, we're going to need to harness traditional sources of fuel even as we ramp up production of new sources of renewable, homegrown energy."

The Obama administration's move to allow the lease sale to go forward for oil and gas exploration 50 miles off the Virginia coast marks the first sale of offshore oil and gas drilling rights in the Atlantic in more than two decades.

Did you read your own link? the "contributor" has no more credibility on the issue than any other person on the street...

I hold the same opinion as the writer and have for some time. However, we'll never know because we have a President who wants
gas prices to be high to further his own green energy agenda.

Obama opens new oil drilling offshore in climate drive | Reuters

Opening up parts of the U.S. Atlantic coast, Alaska and possibly offshore Florida to exploration is Obama's latest effort to woo legislators needed to pass a climate bill before mid-term elections in November.
Obama, who needs bipartisan support to pass a bill that would set limits on U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, cautioned that expanding drilling was not a catch-all answer to U.S. energy challenges.
REPUBLICAN CRITICISM
Republicans said the plan prevented the biggest U.S. offshore energy resources from being developed. The newest area that energy companies will have access to will be off the Virginia coast in tracts estimated to hold 130 million barrels of oil, which is equal to the amount the U.S. imports over two weeks from all foreign suppliers.
"Opening up areas off the Virginia coast to offshore production is a positive step, but keeping the Pacific Coast and Alaska, as well as the most promising resources off the Gulf of Mexico, under lock and key makes no sense at a time when gasoline prices are rising and Americans are asking 'Where are the jobs?'" said House of Representatives Republican Leader John Boehner

Shrimpers in LA were asking that as oil poured into the Gulf too.

That's true and the spill was a huge disaster. That's no reason to further destroy jobs and the economy over it. We could create lots of jobs and the economy would improve if Obama got serious about becoming energy independent.

Wait! What? John, remember "So Be It"?

Please translate the above quote into complete english sentences and I will try to respond.
Well before you addressed the fact that gasoline taxes went toward road construction, it never made since to me. I never understood why Obama was making such a piss poor effort to do anything to reduce gasoline prices, other than it was his way of promoting his alternative energy policies. However, to top that off, since the taxes go toward road construction this just adds on, aka the tax revenue goes to his beloved public unions, am I correct? And I;m sure you know what happens with public union money from there.

going green is bad? going clean is bad? Only in Texas.....

you said in a previous post you don't like his green agenda....
fess up, you don't know what you want.

going green is bad? going clean is bad? Only in Texas.....
And it's proven to be so successful when and where? I'm not opposed to alternative energy, as nobody should be, however green policies implemented into todays markets have not been nearly as splenful as advertised, whether one likes to admit or not.

What do you want him to do snap his fingers and wallah?

voila.....that's the word. It's french, of course..
France has lots of nuclear power and they reprocess/reuse spent fuel....we could actually learn from the french...
