Cop pepper sprays baby squirrel

Yet you posted to me again, first.

For crying out loud. There wasn't an adult there that couldn't have scooped up that baby squirrel in a box?

We have become ******s. Plain and simple. These are the same morons who want to kill all animals that could potentially harm a human. Must be a nightmare for them to walk through the forest.

Did that little squirrel look like
this?!?!

What do you have to say now?

I love squirrels. They are bright, inquisitive creatures and those who live around people... and schools... usually learn quickly that people like to give them good things to eat because they are cute and fuzzy. This baby squirrel was simply running up to kids to mooch goodies. The cop was a douche. Nobody who saw that writhing little animal could possibly say that it wasn't hurt.

OTOH, I like most animals better than most people, so this kind of abuse rankles me.

from the OP link...
The squirrel was taken in by animal volunteers, examined, and released back into the wild. The squirrel was not harmed in the incident.
They were there. We were not. I'll take their eyewitness statements over some posters over-reactions, tyvm.

Over-reaction. Sorry, the tell-tale sign of a serial killer in development is harming small animals. I'm more concerned about the cops behavior if he peppers sprays baby squirrels next hell be pepper spraying babies. :lamo:

yup. That's not an over-reaction... no sir.

The squirrel was not permanently harmed. It was definitely in great pain after being sprayed. I suspect if you were pepper-sprayed in the eyes and spent several long minutes thrashing around, screaming, you'd not be mollified later when someone shrugged off your ordeal by saying you weren't harmed.

If I was in a position where a cop was going to either shoot me, taze me, or spray me... I'll take the spray.

So, the cop asked the squirrel whether it would prefer to be shot, tazed or sprayed? The moron wasn't bright enough to, oh I don't know, perhaps call animal control in the first place? It was an innocent little animal looking for a hand out... and a baby animal that had not yet learned to fear humans. I'd say the latter mistake has been rectified by said little squirrel, since it will now be terrified of humans. The act was animal abuse, pure and simple, and if the cop had followed procedure by calling animal control in the first place, it didn't have to happen.

You keep on cheering for the 250 lb cop, who was terrified enough of a baby rodent to torture the damned thing instead of calling in the experts. Me, I'm rooting for the next squirrel he comes across to scamper up his fat belly and chew his damned nose off. The cowardly idiot.

Clearly this squirrel was an illegal immigrant without papers.

Why isn't the cop up on charges then?

And your expertise in police procedure comes from... where? Exactly?

I was once approached by a baby rabbit at school. I didn't have any pepper spray with me and there were no cops to protect me. Somehow I survived the incident.

I'm sorry, pepper spraying the squirrel was just unnecessary.

That makes sense. From now on, I am going to carry pepper spray, and use it on all my neighbors. After all, I can't tell which ones might have AIDS.

Whovian is correct; there's no way to tell that that squirrel wasn't rabid. Afterall, it was being very aggressive towards students. Aren't you one of the cats that said it's ok to mace an 8 y/o that has a piece of crown molding for a weapon?

It doesnt take a braniac to deduce that if an animal is dangerous pepperspray may only make it worse. He'd probably feel like a retard calling animal control over a baby squirrel.

I was finance director for a SoCalif city, and also worked with all departments policy and procedure manuals to make sure they conformed to overall city policy and city ordinance. Police called out on animal calls were supposed to contact animal control and support them as they picked up the animal. The only exception was if they saw a person being physically attacked or felt their own lives were at risk. The cop probably wrote in his report that he felt his life was at risk by a six ounce rodent.

My policeman neighbor would bust a gut laughing at that. I'm pretty sure that if he'd gotten that call, he'd have told school administrators to get the kids inside, then waited for animal control to collect the squirrel... and he'd have done so without torturing the creature first.

You're not going to change my opinion that the cop was a cowardly jerk, and I'm not going to change your opinion that the cop was a brave and laudable hero. *shrug* I'm done here.

Only if they are tasty.
